Are just doing it for attention?

Even more so when they get comments telling them how beautiful they are and they reply "I'm so not" or some other falsely modest reply.

This is women in their thirties and forties BTW, not teenagers...

I take the odd selfie. I look hideous in non posed pictures. I'm very photogenic!

Some on my friends list put 2 or 3 selfies on per day

I mean very UNphotogenic!

Isn't the whole point of doing anything on Facebook, for attention?

I haven't taken a selfie for years. I have a few with DD but that more for memories years down the line.

It's all very childish and attention seeking...

I think they are unhappy. I have come to this conclusion from looking at the people I know (or know a lot about through mutual friends). The ones who put the most photos of themselves on tend to have issues with themselves in real life.

Similar when it comes to constant Facebook status updates about 'great relationships', lots of happy couple photos, writing loving messages to each other publicly. Those people often spilt up or have an unhappy relationship in real life. This is true for the people on my friends list anyway.

The other thing that I think is attention seeking is when people make arrangments by writing on each others' walls! Just to let the world know that they are busy and have lots of friends. If I want to make plans with someone I do it by phone, text or via a PM on Facebook.

I'm not on FB, but a few of my friends post selfies on Twitter and Instagram etc; and I don't mind much, not my sort of thing but I just skip past it tbh. The point of these sites/FB is to be attention seeking, any statuses or photos you post will be ones you want other people to see and are looking for attention. If you don't like it, either hide/delete friends or get off it, surely?

I think it's just a bit of a laugh for most people...not that I could ever do it cos selfies just make me look even more odd

A friend of mine does that. He started doing it with his first cancer diagnosis. It is a photo record, every day in his life.

You sort of need to know it to understand why he is doing it. But I like to see his daily selfie. I would worry if it wasnt there.

If I want a half decent photo I have to take it myself as my DCs always chop the top of my head off or catch me blinking! However I only change my profile pic every couple of months, usually for special occasions.

People who add new selfies every day or constantly change their profile pic seem a bit self obsessed and insecure to me.

One friend especially is totally gorgeous but obviously has self esteem issues and needs that constant validation, so I don't mind telling her she looks beautiful, especially as her family often say the opposite

I only gush to/about DP on valentines day or when he's done something super special for my birthday etc. I think he deserves credit and if I'm willing to make a public statement about what my favourite book is or how cute someone's dog looks, I think I should also say how lovely my boyfriend is once a year!

Haha I took a selfie today, I've lost 5 stone and only just beginning to feel confident about myself and wanted to show myself off a little. My fb my pic, if my friends dont like this they can hide me or delete me. My friend commented about how much she loves seeing pics of her friends on her feed and actually so do I.

I post selfies pretty much daily. In fact what I post is a composite of multiple selfies. I'm an aspiring make-up artist and I do a blog, so it's just my record of my looks and my learning curve. I'm sure if people are pissed off with them they can just click "un-follow"

I'm perfectly happy but I would admit that I do it for attention. I want my work to be critiqued and I want feedback, both good and bad (I have loads of MUAs on my facebook). My work just happens to be on my face.
