Are just doing it for attention?

Even more so when they get comments telling them how beautiful they are and they reply "I'm so not" or some other falsely modest reply.

This is women in their thirties and forties BTW, not teenagers...

I don't do selfies because they always make me look like a tired middle aged woman with wrinkles I am a tired middle aged woman with wrinkles instead of a youthful alluring sex bomb.

I love looking at other peoples though, in fact I love reading all the crap that people post that most people seem to find annoying. I really should get out more.

I am one of those people that posts endless photos of my Dcs though, bet that really annoys people but I figure they don't have to look.

EugenesAxe · 30/04/2014 22:19

For some reason I googled FB today rather than typing it in, and it came up with an awful story of a 32 yr old who had died after crossing the central reservation following posting of a selfie taken whilst driving.

I felt a contradictory sorrow for the girl and her family and a cold-hearted 'there's another nominee for this year's Darwin awards'.

emms1981 · 30/04/2014 22:19

I got rid of facebook in the new year, I got so fed up of reading about how wonderful everyone's life is, how much weight they have lost from the latest fad diet, how they're all having the next family meal or gathering (without inviting us) what they're having for tea, and I hate it when couples send happy birthday or anniversary messages to each other I can do that in person. My MIL once sent my husband a rather shitty message once asking what she had done to piss me off because I hadn't wished her happy birthday on facebook I had to reply by letting her know that her DS isn't the one who buys her cards every year!

colleysmill · 30/04/2014 22:23

Maybe I'm getting old but I remember taking photos at arms length of me with friends or piling into a photo booth to get a little photo years ago.

I guess though you had to wait that much longer to get the pictures developed than in this digital age

Quinteszilla · 30/04/2014 22:26

"Maybe I'm getting old but I remember taking photos at arms length of me with friends or piling into a photo booth to get a little photo years ago." yes, we did this!

colleysmill · 30/04/2014 22:31

Quint - Happy memories of seeing how many teens could pile into a booth on a rainy Sat afternoon in town :)

Quinteszilla · 30/04/2014 22:33

I can just smell it now. The special smell of a ..... phone booth. How many teenagers could press their ear up on the earpiece, listening to find out if HE would answer the phone?????

BrokenToeOuch · 30/04/2014 22:35

Haha this made me laugh hysterically at DP who was rather drunk last week and were at the pub when he decided to take a photo of his friends. He accidentally flipped the camera round and he ended up selfie-ing himself. He's 37 and has never selfied-d before, and judging the results, he never will again! They were hilarious, his baffled little face when he couldn't see his friends in his phone... still laughing now in bed!
(you maybe had to be there Grin )

BrokenToeOuch · 30/04/2014 22:39

Well DP is not happy about my above post - he wants you all to know he's 36 Blush

trikken · 30/04/2014 22:41

Grin brilliant.

TinkerBellsFairyDust · 30/04/2014 23:21

Regarding the "DP gushing" the nicest thing I ever put on FB to my ExH was "Happy Birthday, I kinda like you x" Grin maybe that is why we are divorced...

ForeskinHyena · 01/05/2014 00:01

Broken, he sounds like me, trying to take a photo of DP with his iPhone by pressing the mute button Blush

sarahquilt · 01/05/2014 06:36

I like it when people do it! They look like such tools with the pouty lips etc - it gives me a laugh.

Robfordscrack · 01/05/2014 06:44

Awimbaway that's why Instagram was invented - to make selfies look better :)

patienceisvirtuous · 01/05/2014 06:48

Eugenes I feel sorry for the other drivers she put in danger with her stupidity.

One of my colleagues uploads about three selfies each day usually with a commentary like 'big smiles for you all'. Cringe! She is terribly self involved.

stilllivingbythesea14 · 01/05/2014 07:10

My profile picture at the moment is a selfie of me and DP on the London eye :) I don't mind selfies really. I never seem to be looking at the camera properly when I take one though: it is ok when it's me and another person(s) but not just me Hmm

I do have a friend who took over 100 selfies in London one day (just her) - I did think that was a bit ott!

WomanScorned · 01/05/2014 07:38

A good friend of mine does this and also self deprecating statuses about how fat/ugly etc she is. I think she actually needs the "no you're not, you're beautiful" comments. The photo's are obviously chosen because she knows she looks good in them. She must spend ages practicing the pout and editing the photo's - it's sad.

TinkerBellsFairyDust · 01/05/2014 09:11

WomanScorned I have one of them too its quite sad (in a Sad way)

Roooobarb · 01/05/2014 09:27

WomanScorned, that's exactly what the selfie people on my friends list do. One in particular, is stunning and knows it, but posts selfie after selfie of her posing, accompanied by captions such as "God I look rough today". Cue about 300 people leaping on to tell her no she doesn't look rough at all, she looks amazing, and all that jazz.

Aww Lying that's very kind, the payment's in your Paypal account

But selfies make me look like a goldfish, staring out of a magnified bowl Grin

mimishimmi · 01/05/2014 09:43

I know someone in her forties who is always putting selfies on Facebook. She is gorgeous though and often the shots are clever/entertaining (she's also a photographer so stages her own shots). Other people bitch about it but they often lift my mood.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/05/2014 09:44

I have never once taken a photo of myself Confused

I've seen my face in the mirror and it's normal

Mrsjayy · 01/05/2014 09:49

yes of course it is for attention that is what facebook is for i dont mind selfies tbh they are fun as long as they dont do the duck face over 15 then i judge them Grin

flipchart · 01/05/2014 10:05

I don't mind selfies or FB.

All good fun.
If its not your thing, move on. That's ok.

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2014 10:06
