to sneak DTs into hotel room?

Posting for traffic really.

We have 3DC, DS (4yo) and DTs (22m). We need an overnight stop on the way to our holiday. planning to stay with a chain hotel and I know the room is big enough to fit 2 travel cots in. the hotel however have a strict 2 adults 2 kids policy.

has anyone done the sneaking the extra child in method to avoid having to pay for 2 rooms? it just seems mad to pay for an extra room when there is space in one room for us.

any thoughts?

Do you steal stuff from shops as well, just because prices are a bit mad?

The hotel is not insured to have the extra cot in the room. That's why the policy is so strict. That being said, I know people who have done it. I personally wouldn't risk it myself in case something happened.

If you think they'll be able to fit in then I'd go for it.

It's not going to hurt anyone.

I've sneaked my own food into places that say not to bring your own food in.

I think you'll be fine - but do be discreet.

Can't you find a different hotel or a B&B?

I'd be too worried about being spotted and the disruption that might cause if they didn't let you in, or didn't have a 2nd room available.

Why dont you stay at a different hotel?

I think, if you actually rang them and explained, that 2 of your children were effectively still babies, they would let you do it.

nowhere on the route has rooms for 5 without the cost being astronomical.

I would be nervous about being spotted but it just seems so crazy to pay for essentially 3 beds we wont use if we get 2 rooms!

I've done it. It's massively difficult to find a room for 5 and when they are too little to have a room on their own you would only be paying for a room to stand empty.

I would do it. Could one of the twins share your bed?

If found out I would just say I had no idea, how silly that you need an extra room for such a small person!

In my experience of basic hotels the people checking you in don't really pay much attention,probably best to dress the twins the same and they probably won't notice.

We used premier inn when our Dc3 was a baby. We had to book over the phone though as their website wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't because my kids are older and need their own bed. But I know so many people who do it, check in and then sneak in.

Its part of their fire risk assessment so they have to say no and expect you to keep to this. I just wouldn't risk it to be honest. they have a policy. you have asked whether you can or not and they have said no so just don't do it. if they catch you they will make you pay up anyway if they have a room free and I just wouldn't risk them no having another room. travelodges will definitely take 4 + cot as we have done it ourselves. would suggest you stay somewhere else. you wont be able to have breakfast with an extra child will you?

the hotel in question is in france, not uk, although they have hotels here too.

I wouldn't do it when they need an actual bed but they are still in travel cots.

it is in a smallish place and DH is worried there wont be enough people around to cover the sneaking in.

I would do it. There are 5 of us too.

can you not just share the beds with the twins travel lodge have family rooms for 5 do they not I think they will notice when you rock up with 2 babies how are planning to sneak them in

I think you are just going to have to suck up the cost, the risk of getting caught out is too great.

oh ok so not in the uk still would have the babies in beds though what is going to happen the rest of your trip where are you all staying

i have two words, fire and regs

we have a villa/gite for the rest of the holiday so no problems there.

mrsjay sharing beds doesn't change the fact there are still 5 in one room which is the issue. but we personally don't do co-sleeping.

Spot on Nigellasdealer. and for those saying yeah just do it, how would you feel if there was a fire and the insurance company wriggled out of paying up because the owner had allowed over occupation? if it was an easyjet flight you wouldn't just pay for 4 seats and sneak one of the children on would you? I just don't see the difference and yes I do have 3 DC, its part of it, paying for a family ticket plus 1. but you get used to it.
