to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:22

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

We probably are. And the week after I moved out that poor little girl was shot just down the road near Stockwell and will never walk again.

But she would have grown up to be a member of the 'masses' so who cares eh.

mijas99 · 13/03/2014 22:55

McDs burgers are 5 pc poo. Read fast food nation

McDs does lots of things very well. Staff training, the decour, cleanliness and of course the advertising

Just a shame about the food

I agree that after eating a McDs it makes me feel disgusting and almost turns in to self-loathing. I am not sure if it is the shame for eating such bland tasting food or whether it is for being fooled that "it will be nice this time"

Spero · 13/03/2014 22:56

Then don't eat there.

But don't pour scorn on people who do and refer to them in such insulting and degrading ways.

Your attitude is 100% poo.

I don't think you can have a superiority complex if you don't occasionally indulge in melodramatic self flagellation.

Its not enough to dislike something and not want to indulge - EVERYONE ELSE must know just how much you dislike it, and how much of a better person that makes you.

IneedAwittierNickname · 13/03/2014 23:00

Hestons stuff (mostly) looks nice, I'd love to try it. Still like a maccy ds though!

HenriettaMaria · 13/03/2014 23:01

The masses always have poor taste whether it be reading The Sun, watching soaps or eating very poor highly branded food.

mijas, you sweet talker, you. Hmm

FreudiansSlipper · 13/03/2014 23:01

an ex was a chef while training he worked for a while in md's

he also has worked in some of the best restaurants in London and said the cleanest kitchens were md's apparently their motto is if something is dropped on the floor it is still clean enough to eat but it would go in the bin

it is always clean but why are the toilets always messy and not so clean Confused

caruthers · 13/03/2014 23:01

Fine dining is littered with eateries that use loads of salt to season.

mijas99 · 13/03/2014 23:01

Spero - this is a discussion forum to explore opinions about things. Like the OP I dont get the whole "McDs is a treat" thing, that is why I am provoking

I don't think people are actually being very truthful

And "food for the masses" was an entirely appropriate comment and not negative at all. It is the whole ethos behind McDs which is to be aplauded. It is just a shame the food is so bad

gordyslovesheep · 13/03/2014 23:02

the masses eat pies and chips dear

If you feel self loathing over a burger I'd suggest you stay clear of them

I have a filthy burger about 3 times a year - I am as common as muck - I boycott The Sun - bit me (and then have a bit more self loathing )

The food is fine. I enjoy it every now and again. The chips especially are fantastic. Chicken nuggets with a sweet chilli dip? That easily compares to some of the poshest restaurants I have been to and yes, I have done Michelen starred places in UK and Europe.

I don't object to anyone sharing their honest opinions. You don't like the food. Well, hurrah for you. Why however can't you share THAT opinion without making sweeping and rude generalisations about the 'masses'?

I imagine you have a huge list to tick off when it comes to self-loathing mijas, no wonder you don't like eating there.

If its good enough for Nigel Slater, Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White, it's good enough for me.

FreudiansSlipper · 13/03/2014 23:05

Heston's restaurants have been closed down a few times due to food poisoning Shock

look away now if you easily get queasy ....

my friend found a worm in her fillet-o-fish it looked more like a skinny slug i have never eaten one since

you were warned

RufusTheReindeer · 13/03/2014 23:05

Yep, I'd like to know as well

Truthful about what?

Spero · 13/03/2014 23:06

O, and this will rock your world - sometimes when I am in Swindon or somewhere equally disfavoured by the thoughtless town planners who have neglected to provide me with suitable places to get fresh and favoursome food, I will even eat a pasty from Greggs!!

Because I am hungry, because I find it tasty.

Somehow, I have managed also to get an education and a professional job. How weird. I must be unique.

O and Whetherspoons! come with me to Tuesday Steak night Mijas! I will open up a whole new world for you of self loathing.

treaclesoda · 13/03/2014 23:09

ah now, the worm in your fish thing isn't exclusive to McDonald's. White fish are apparently very prone to those wormy things. I once bought a load of cod from a very well respected fish monger at ond of your posh middle class farmer's market things. Cost a fortune. Got it home and it had worms in it.

scottishmummy · 13/03/2014 23:09

Because it is treat.its different to what we ear home daily, and weans love it

FreudiansSlipper · 13/03/2014 23:09

i was once served broccoli at a very well known Italian restaurant in Knightsbridge

there was a little maggot on it, he died of shock you could tell by the expression on his face

has not put me off broccoli

Spero · 13/03/2014 23:10

But they were healthy, organic worms.

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/03/2014 23:10

Not keen on Macdonalds burgers, I prefer Burger King. And KFC but their chips are rubbish.
KFC need Macdonald's chips and then it would be perfect.
