I am probably BU and there are plenty of other annoying foibles of my fellow drivers but really...!

YABU. There are lots of times I don't indicate.

YANBU it's dangerous

candycoatedwaterdrops · 12/03/2014 17:48

Maid would you indicate at a roundabout?

I don't understand why drivers have such trouble using their indicator.

Worse than not indicating is using the wrong signal tbough.

MaidOfStars · 12/03/2014 17:50

If there are other cars around that will benefit from my indication, yes.

polarpercy · 12/03/2014 17:51

It can make trying to cross some roads around where I live a nightmare when people don't indicate. I sometimes feel that there are some car/van drivers who believe they don't have to indicate if there are no cars around and it is only pedestrians. I was trying to cross a small junction and was nearly hit when a car turned in without indicating (drivers on the main road have the option of straight on so no indicator required or turning left), all you get when you say anything is abuse.

eurochick · 12/03/2014 17:51

Hmm. I'm on the fence and it's dangerous but snarling "do you think I am an effing mind reader" is quite therapeutic....

polarpercy · 12/03/2014 17:52

Maid do you include pedestrians? Not trying to be antagonistic but you only mention cars.

MaidOfStars · 12/03/2014 17:55

Sorry, I meant any other road user - cars, bikes, scoters, people, whatever.

KirstyJC · 12/03/2014 17:55

This really winds me up too, I got a dirty look for not letting someone out today but I actually had no idea whether she was trying to join the traffic going my way, or cross that lane to the other way - because she wasn't indicating. What am I a bloody mind reader? You want people to let you out, INDICATE!

The only thing more annoying is stupid people who leave their indicators ON after turning. If they are so unobservant as to not notice a big green flashing light on their dashboard, not to mention the loud regular clicking noise, then they shouldn't be driving.

polarpercy · 12/03/2014 17:56

Maid, fair enough that seems sensible to focus on when others need it.

AfricanExport · 12/03/2014 17:57

YANBU

They should not have licences if they cannot understand a basic concepts like indicating. Not indicating shows a compete lack of respect for other road users. I think if they stopped calling it a flicker and used the correct term they would understand what its for Grin

candycoatedwaterdrops · 12/03/2014 17:59

It baffles me because it doesn't take much effort to go 'flick'.

YADNBU.

Megrim · 12/03/2014 18:09

YANBU, but bear in mind you would have to allow for the German Car Dispensation which means that drivers of said vehicles do not have to use indicators at any time.

In fact, I'm not even sure if BMWs are fitted with indicators?

CHJR · 12/03/2014 18:11

Actually drivers who can't be bothered to indicate should be hanged, drawn and quartered. Especially if on a roundabout.

One thing about cyclists, around here at least they do actually use hand signals, otherwise they'd be dead!

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 18:13

Megrim, that's a joke isn't it? Wink

I've seen people indicate out all the way round a roundabout so everyone prepares to go and realises they can't at the last minute. I see a lot of bad drivers. You are definitely definitely not being unreasonable

Vinomcstephens · 12/03/2014 18:18

Drivers who don't indicate are the cunts. I lose track on a daily basis of marvelling at how many people think I'm a mind reader - you can only pity them really, it takes a really special kind of stupidity to not know how to use their indicator.....

caroldecker · 12/03/2014 18:31

But it is dead eaay to tell where people are going on a roundabout based on speed and angle of attack

KirstyJC · 12/03/2014 18:37

Well carol you might think so .... but that assumes that the people driving their cars onto roundabouts are in the correct position and speed. And of course, no-one is ever in the wrong lane or going too fast in real life.......

Also, if you are driving a car onto a roundabout you will be looking at all the other traffic and won't be able to spend ages staring at each individual car to work out where they are planning to go, whether they are supposed to be indicating and have forgotten or simply in the wrong lane, and whether they are also paying attention or not.

The whole point of indicators is to indicate your intended direction/manoeuvre to other road users so they don't HAVE to figure it out for themselves!

LividofLondon · 12/03/2014 18:38

YANBU. To not bother indicating when it could be of benefit to other road users is just plain selfish.

MamaPain · 12/03/2014 18:47

YANBU. I drive on motorways quite a bit, mainly the m25 and I have to spend lots of time on the north circular. Both are busy roads full of lots of junctions and multiple lanes, often it's so busy you don't get much time to react. The amount of people who think its acceptable just to pull into a lane without indicating, it's so fucking stupid.

It's selfish as well, it's this mentality of well I'll just get on with what I'm doing and everyone else will have to cope. Fucking arseholes.

I'd like to fit my car with some sort of vehicle taser paint gun, stop them dead in their tracks.

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 19:07

I do agree on some roundabouts you can tell from speed angle etc tho! I think that's a good point but you shouldn't HAVE to guess and two roundabouts on my commute home are designed so stupidly that you really can't tell.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 12/03/2014 19:16

But it is dead eaay to tell where people are going on a roundabout based on speed and angle of attack

You say that but there are some right morons where I live.
