I am probably BU and there are plenty of other annoying foibles of my fellow drivers but really...!

OP posts:
TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:29

Confused. Certain BMW is same as my citroen was and 99 per cent sure same as my previous focus. My mums jap import is definitely 'wrong' Shock

pointythings · 12/03/2014 21:30

Megrim I tend to think it's 'cantliftafingeritis that causes Non-Indication Syndrome, not a lot to do with the make of car IME. Some of the worst offenders where I work are Clios and Micras. Hey, they* know where they're going, right?

BTW my NN comes from my preference for pointy sports (fencing and archery) but thank you for pointing (sorry) out how apt it is. Grin

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:31

No offence... but I have a small brain??? Ok ShockShockShock

CHJR · 12/03/2014 21:35

Sounds like you're way ahead of me at this time of night on the brain size, Eeves. Your BMW is old old old AND you indicate. You must be on the side of the angels. Just to confirm, you're not a balding old man showing off to teenaged girls in your convertible, are you? No, that's all right then.

My Japanese car and German car both have the indicator stalk on the left. European RHD drive cars usually have the indicator stalk on the left. Far East imports usually have the stalk on the right.

Non-classic BMW drivers, you have no excuse other than being brain dead morons

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:39

Not a balding old man just yet... It was an old mans before hand tho if that makes a difference. Wink

I'm not sure I agree with all the hype. It's very nice but so was my focus... It's nice people know I have a big willy tho GrinGrinGrin

BitOutOfPractice · 12/03/2014 21:39

TBH it takes more effort to think "is there anyone around who will benefit from my indicator?" and look around at all possibilities than it is to just put the damn thing on and look where you're going!

I just do it automatically. Why wouldn't you?

So OP YANBU it drives me mad!

Shall I startt the arument about how often it seems to be BMW drivers who don't indicate? Wink

BitOutOfPractice · 12/03/2014 21:40

Oh I see I'm too late

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:41

I love you guys sticking up for me!!! Vipers nest... I think not. Grin

Megrim · 12/03/2014 21:41

But then BMW driver (classic ones excepted Wink0 can't change gear and indicate at the same time.

Even the ones with automatics.

CHJR · 12/03/2014 21:42

I am so bad. I indicate in parking lots. Even if no one else is near their car. Is than AIBU?

Megrim · 12/03/2014 21:43

Please excuse typos. More Wine anyone?

Haggisfish · 12/03/2014 21:44

Yes please! And OP YANBU - does my head in!!

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:46

Chjr, are you in America? Parking lots are equally as important I feel. Lots of waiting for other ppl unnecessarily else.

msmoss · 12/03/2014 21:47

YANBU I often wonder if there is some kind of new road tax system that I'm not aware about that involves being charged every-time you use your indicators.

I am actually nearly crashed into at least once a week because I don't turn left at junction where the vast majority of cars turn left. As I'm going straight on I don't indicate but as no other fucker does either, cars turning in from the junction just assume I'm another non-indicator and then start trying to drive into the side of me.

WitchWay · 12/03/2014 21:47

I hate people who indicate too early on roundabouts - before the exit before the exit they want - WRONG - indicate before the exit you want - argh!!

I hate people who swerve from the outside lane across the inside lane & cut me up on roundabouts when they're going straight on & I'm turning right. Check your bloody mirrors & keep in your own lane!!

I hate people who indicate right when they're going straight on at roundabouts - thankfully becoming less popular than it was about 20 years ago.

CHJR · 12/03/2014 21:51

Oh good, eeves. You mean I'm allowed to indicate in parking lots? I am a foreigner, and though not really from North America that is come to think of it where I learned to drive. I also stop for pedestrians, esp if it's raining. And the person behind me (it's London) always hoots. Always.

saulaboutme · 12/03/2014 21:56

Agree, yanbu

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 21:58

Definitely allowed in parking lots. Stopping for pedestrians is another story tho. I'm guessing you mean
a) if on a slow road they are waiting to cross
B)at pedestrian crossings
C) not when they will have their chance when they light turns off for drivers and on for pedestrians?

My mum lets everyone cross and I feel it's unfair to hold everyone up behind u. Key example is... At a junction that also has a crossing my mum stops and lets people cross. Generally they don't expect it as they are waiting for their turn and after they've realised and crossed the light is on red for drivers and only two people got through instead of ten.

Maybe I'm harsh (I always stop if it's raining or if they have kids so they know they will be safe) but I think drivers should not have to wait and tailbacks be caused. Sorry Hmm

CHJR · 12/03/2014 22:03

no, i'm with you eeves, agreed

owlbegoing · 12/03/2014 22:03

As a non-driver who is often annoyed with ignorant car drivers who don't indicate when I'm attempting to cross the road can I ask what is the position legally? Is there a penalty for not indicating if a policeman saw you?

TwittyMcTwitterson · 12/03/2014 22:08

Phew chjr.

Errrrmmmm... Legally I believe pedestrian always has right of way. You can't just walk out into the road willy nilly but say you walk out onto the road and I turn on to that road, you will have right of way as You were there first and I wouldn't have a clear run on the road from the point of entry. I think.

Legally, you are expected to indicate but I don't think it's illegal not to. Again... I think.

People never indicate here (California), drives me crazy! They also never thank you for letting them in.
