To think doughnuts should be covered in caster sugar, NOT icing sugar.

Really fancied a jam doughnut today so I popped into the local bakers. They have changed their doughnuts so that they are dusted in icing sugar instead of caster sugar.

Surely this is completely wrong! It makes them far too soft rather than having that little crunch. They also seem to taste strange like that.

AIBU to be a bit disappointed I couldn't have my jam doughnut- the cherry Danish was nice but not as satisfying as a doughnut. The other local shops only sell doughnuts in packs of five and I couldn't eat that many that may be a lie.

So do I Supercosy, but I can't eat them with icing sugar, it would be like eating cake icing made with caster sugar- all wrong.

Caster sugar definitely - I only like the hot doughnuts bought from vans at the fair, no jam, just hot, squidgy & sugary - yum!

Jam donughts with icing sugar used to be my favouite from one coffee shop near my parents.
Not seen them for years - and I don't mean these americian things covered in glace icing.

Definitely caster sugar. The little crunchy bits combined with squidgy soft dough is perfect. Icing sugar seems to be the more popular choice now but it's disappointing.

YANBU. Doughnuts should have a coating that is crunchy and sticks to your lips.

When I was at school, we'd all practice eating doughnuts without licking our lips, when they were on the lunch menu :o

Yabu! I like doughnuts dusted in icing sugar best. I'm not a fan of the ring ones though with icing and sprinkly shit. I really want a jam doughnut now!

YANBU if you are referring to deep fried doughnuts.......

however......

YABU if you're referring to cream doughnuts, they should always have icing sugar

What's worse is that stuff that's not even icing sugar. I think they use it so it still looks like icing sugar, which would otherwise go soggy and get absorbed.
