To think doughnuts should be covered in caster sugar, NOT icing sugar.

Really fancied a jam doughnut today so I popped into the local bakers. They have changed their doughnuts so that they are dusted in icing sugar instead of caster sugar.

Surely this is completely wrong! It makes them far too soft rather than having that little crunch. They also seem to taste strange like that.

AIBU to be a bit disappointed I couldn't have my jam doughnut- the cherry Danish was nice but not as satisfying as a doughnut. The other local shops only sell doughnuts in packs of five and I couldn't eat that many that may be a lie.

A chocolate one would be permissible with icing sugar, but not a custard one.

YADNBU there must be a donut ombudsman you can take this to? there's no place for icing sugar on a jam donut

Boyfriend prefers custard donuts to jam ones, whenever he says, 'I've bought donuts' and I bite into one and it's custard I think I should LTB

YABU for making me hungry but YADNBU about the sugar! These days, icing sugar seems to be the norm though. :(

YABU. I am 27 weeks pg, have successfully got toddler to bed and am in my pjs and now I want a jam doughnut*. DH is out and not due back before 10pm when I have to start fasting for blood test tomorrow morning. Very cross now!

*with caster sugar, obv. Icing sugar would be an abomination!

I love a fresh cream donut from the local bakers with caster sugar and a little squiggle of jam. With that weird cold feeling icing sugar they use in supermarkets they're just not the same.

Failing that a Krispy Kreme glazed cream filled one. Or chocolate. Or strawberry.

I remember doughnuts with icing sugar as a very rare treat (my DF liked them) when I was little, and they were lovely. You never seem to see them anymore, me and DH both agree they are nicer than the ones with caster sugar!

sheriff, you definitely have to LTB. Custard filled doughnuts are just wrong. The joy of a good doughnut is the contrast- sharp jam with sweet dough, crunchy sugar with soft dough.

Apple filled are good, strawberry filled are nice but the best I ever had were filled with blackcurrant jam- divine.

I am genuinely amazed that people are craving cake / donuts!

One of the best things about working in a supermarket when I was a teenager was that my best friend worked on the bakery... She would put on a fresh batch of doughnuts timed for perfection to be ready for our break mmmmm fresh doughnuts.

I much prefer caster sugar on the donut but right now I would take either. Stuck indoors with a poorly DS (bless him, not his fault) but I am now desperate for a donut or even a pack of 5 (hangs head in shame)
