To Find this Woman in the Cinema Rude

Me and my friend were watching a film in the cinema tonight. She doesn't wear a watch and must have been checking her phone for the time - its a habit of hers to do this, or to ask people the time. I was sitting next to her and I didn't notice it.

There was an empty seat to her other side between her and a woman. The woman suddenly boomed out in the middle of the film, "If you want to play your phone, you can go outside and do it instead of in here".

It was mortifying, and she interrupted the film for me. I was really embarrassed for my friend, but we didn't say anything.

At the end of the film, as we were standing up to leave, I said to the woman "I don't really care if you were disturbed by a light during the film or not, I don't want to have to the film interrupted by your booming voice". She then started arguing back (she said something like "Oh you'd like to be a cheeky one, wouldn't you, and some other stuff) but we turned our backs towards her and her husband so that she was talking to ourselves, put on our coats and left.

Kind of ruined the film for both of us. Normally I find going to the cinema relaxing!

Would passing myself annoy people less than checking the time?

It was about a woman who was attacked for asking someone not to use their phone in a cinema. If you don't see the link (especially with your "nutter" post) then so be it.

But Crowler many posters have questioned why you would even need to check the time at all. You know the start time of the film and how long it lasts. What more could you possibly need to know.

limitedperiodonly - I am pcso which is the same a police officer so no I don't have access to those things or can make arrests however I do on my shifts go out with a police officer who can enforce the law.

Do I wish to have those powers - no I chose to become a pcso because I wanted to volunteer my time to help my community and I am interested in police work but do not want to be police officer.

Oh I see LittleMissSunshine. I would assess the consequences for non-compliance. I do switch off my phone in the cinema, but I would consider switching it to silent approximately similar, in that the main annoyance is the ringtone which is removed by turning it to silent.

Whereas running a red light could kill or seriously injure you and other road users. Rather a difference.

And no, I don't run red lights.

I'm amazed at the people who've never slyly checked the time during a film. Fuck, you people must be more easily entertained than me.

Newt, I've said before I suspect Brian (if this is who we're talking about?) was looking for a forum to peddle his excellent manners.

I suffer from near-fatal impatience and if I hate a film I must know how much longer it will be. I do try to see the face of my watch when possible but I have occasionally checked my phone (while in my bag) to see the time. I actually did not know that this was controversial.

Well I think we can all agree this thread has been an excellent use of our time :)

The whole point of paying throught the nose to watch a movie at the cinema is the darkness and the big screen.

Personally I feel your friend was rude and inconsiderate and you were very, very rude and slightly childish

Are you both young as most adults can do without their phone for a couple of hours. If she knows what time the movie starts and how long it is, I really dont see why she is checking the time...are you sure she wasnt on facebook?

If she wants to watch her phone rather than a movie perhaps a trip to McDonalds would be better next time?

Las time I went im sure there was a message on the screen about mobile use and I have seen people approached by the ushers and asked to switch off or go outside.
