To think that SiL is not actually being that helpful?

Everyone is coming to ours for an extended stay over Christmas. I will be doing ALL the cooking and all the everything else.

SiL has emailed me a helpful list of all the things she and her son do and don't like to eat.

Petit filous for breakfast.
Carrots only if cooked.
Nothing too oniony.
Skips or cheese strings or soft fruit for snacks.
Broccoli, cauliflower and peas are fine.
No to aubergine, courgette or squash.
Pesto only if home made.
occasional low sugar juice for a treat but mostly water or milk to drink.
Brioche toasted with proper butter.

It goes on and on...

Apparently she thought the list might help me out.

Aibu? Or is she being a socialy stunted arsehole?

I think shes taking the piss. Get what your given and beggrateful !

Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2013 11:29

I wouldn't let her come. What a total arse.

sooperdooper · 15/12/2013 11:31

Why are you doing all the cooking? Surely even if main meals are made as a group they can do their own breakfasts and drinks, you're not running a restaurant!!! I'd tell her to do her own shopping for brioche etc if that's what she wants, I'd find that cheeky

CailinDana · 15/12/2013 11:31

I would email her back saying she can supply the snacks and breakfast stuff. Expecting you to supply it all is majorly taking the.piss.

notapizzaeater · 15/12/2013 11:32

Omg !!!

My ds Is coeliac I provide all of his snacks. I wouldn't dream of asking my mum to get stuff in she wouldn't buy (although she will)

I Also provide All off the extra stuff at Christmas (pigs in blankets, stuffing, pork etc)

I have had to nag my sister into buying some wine for the meal as they seem to think it magically appears and they have 3 x disposable income of my mum and dad.

SomethingkindaOod · 15/12/2013 11:32

Are any of them down to allergies at all? If not then email her back and say "thanks for letting me know, on your way to ours could you pick up.." And list everything on the list that you don't usually have in.
YANBU unless they're allergy triggers. Even then she's pushing it unless she added an offer to bring those things with her?

Laradaclara · 15/12/2013 11:34

Write back - thanks SIL, that's very helpful. We aren't planning to have some of those items so it would be great if you could bring suitable snacks and breakfasts and some alternate meals in case DC doesn't like what we're having. :)

Stokes · 15/12/2013 11:41

Willfully misunderstand and just say "oh fantastic, yes it would be great if you could bring all that, thanks!".

sapfu · 15/12/2013 11:42

lol at socially stunted arsehole

she sounds like a bit of a princess
email her back

'thought this would be helpful to you. during your stay, you might like to know the following things i do and do not like:

Like:
helpful guests (who do things like put stuff in the dishwasher and tidy up)
people who don't look a gift horse in the mouth
open minded sorts, happy to try new things, or make changes to their normal diet for a short period
non complainers

dislike:
demanders
entitlement
those who expect me to cater to their every whim ffs I am only one person and I have x number of people to cater for
people who bring their own fridge to install in the place of my choice, and their own picky bastard snacks to store within

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 15/12/2013 11:42

"No problem SIL. I'll make sure there's some space for your stuff in the fridge."

SomethingkindaOod · 15/12/2013 11:44

I would be so tempted to send sapfu's email. Then I would delete it because I am a wimp.. Grin

MrsMangoBiscuit · 15/12/2013 11:44

What Stokes said!

YANBU, she's being a cheeky bugger!

WhoNickedMyName · 15/12/2013 11:46

Exactly what TheFuture said.

Make it clear to her that she is welcome to either bring that stuff with her, or she can go and do a food shop when she arrives at yours.

PrimalLass · 15/12/2013 11:48

I would email and ask her to bring the pesto at least.

Is the orb just going through weaning?

IneedAsockamnesty · 15/12/2013 11:52

Do people seriously do this (obviously without allergies being an issue)

I would be tempted to reply with

Rude cow. We eat normally in this household,if your child is unable to eat normally because you don't object to fussiness then you cater for it.

CranberrySaucyJack · 15/12/2013 11:52

Pretend you thought she was just starting a chatty conversation, and send her a list back of all your favourite foods/best restaurant meals you ever had.

neunundneunzigluftballons · 15/12/2013 11:53

are you sure you don't mind bringing all that? It's awfully kind of you. I'll watch while you make the pesto if that's okay. Would be great to see if it compares favourably to the jars we use here

^^this a million times over but don't for get to add thanks for being soooooo helpful

IneedAsockamnesty · 15/12/2013 11:56

Is the orb just going through weaning?

So what if they are. If they are unable to do what most parents do like using components of the meal everybody is having then they should cater for it themselves.

Unless of course op has form for trying to feed pork scratchings covered in treacle to the baby,if so it could be a polite way of trying to say "stop it you cunt before I kill you"

Caitlin17 · 15/12/2013 11:57

That doesn't sound like an allergy list given there are products with dairy, flour, eggs and nuts( query are pine nuts "nuts"?)

It sounds like someone with a huge sense of self importance and no self awareness.

Go for the deliberate misinterpretation.

ssd · 15/12/2013 11:57

I'd just say

"thanks for letting me know what you like, I'll clear some space in the cupboards for when you bring it"

and leave it like that

fromparistoberlin · 15/12/2013 11:57

I'd tell her to fuck off and die

not really, ho ho h0 Xmas Wink

But she is taking the piss

I mean WHO does that????? sheesh

SomethingkindaOod · 15/12/2013 11:58

By proper butter I assume she makes her own along with the pesto? The more I read that list the more I'm incline to think she's a cheeky mare!
Is she expecting you to provide some kind of special water that has been filtered through the hair of mermaids or something?
I'm actually getting rather cross on your behalf here, I have a couple of cheeky SILS but even they would draw the line about half way down that list!

TSSDNCOP · 15/12/2013 11:58

Actually I don't think she's being that U. If you were to buy all the stuff on the list and then they didn't like any of it you might be offended and pissed off you'd spent money on stuff they turned down.
