to find "Merry F*******g Christmas cards offensive ?

Apparently Urban Outfitters are selling cards with this on. I looked at their website and they also have cards which say "Tinsel tits".
Am I being unreasonable or am I turning into my Grandma ?
I am not a Christian, but I try not to offend other faiths.

This strikes me as overshooting the mark in an attempt to be clever/irreverent.

Probably inspired by "go the fuck to sleep".

You are turning into your Grandma, sorry.

I am too though as I think they're awful Blush

Crowler · 13/12/2013 09:16

I like Go the Fuck to Sleep too.

DidoTheDodo · 13/12/2013 09:17

YANBU. Offensive.

AmerigoVespucci · 13/12/2013 09:18

You can write Fucking on your post, y'know. We are all adults here. Xmas Grin

NinjaBunny · 13/12/2013 09:18

I wouldn't find it offensive. I have a few friends who'd find it funny.

I think with cards like that you'd need to be careful who you sent it to.

I imagine people buy them because it made them laugh in the shop but never actually think of anyone to post it to.

BackOnlyBriefly · 13/12/2013 09:20

It's perfectly fine to sell them because you don't have to buy them. If they sent them out to customers or something that would be another matter.

Sparklymommy · 13/12/2013 09:25

I find it offensive. And not funny.

YANBU.

monicalewinski · 13/12/2013 09:28

Have just had a browse, and am now a fan of their Fuck Off floral eye mask it really gets the message across!

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 13/12/2013 09:35

I dont find them.offensive. In fact, they probably sum up how a lot of people feel on Christmas Day with tge three bloody month run up to it.

Also, for a LOT of people, Christmas isnt a religious celebration.

Surely more offensinve would be Happy Fucking Birthday Jesus

DoJo · 13/12/2013 09:40

So someone told you about these cards, and you sought them out so that you could be offended by them and the rest of the range? Why? I don't find it offensive, but if someone did I would just expect them not to buy or send them and that be an end of it.

AnnabelleLee · 13/12/2013 09:41

So you're offended. So what?

stickysausages · 13/12/2013 09:42

As an atheist, I find it offensive. Can't imagine happy fucking Hanukkah cards etc. Christians seem an 'easy target' in this country sometimes & are called old fashioned or backwards when the are offended.

MerryFuckingChristmas · 13/12/2013 09:45

Errrrmmm......

BackOnlyBriefly · 13/12/2013 09:46

Sticky, Christmas is a general celebration that christians also use to mark a special day for them. They don't own it and shouldn't assume that anything said about it applies to them.

Delurkedforthis · 13/12/2013 09:46

YANBU to find it offensive...I don't, but that's me and this is you!

I am probably shoulder to shoulder with Mortified on this one and my heart always goes out at this time of year to the involuntarily disenfranchised/isolated when it seems to be against the law not to be rolling in food, friends, good times and money.

Can I assume you haven't bought one? Coz I am sorely tempted....

TheMaw · 13/12/2013 09:46

I would find it offensive if I'd been sent one, I wouldn't want it up in my house.

But I wouldn't be trawling the shops to find something I found offensive, just so I could moan about it. That's weird.

Delurkedforthis · 13/12/2013 09:49

Can't imagine happy fucking Hanukkah cards etc

I'm Jewish (secular) and you have given me a GREAT idea for next year. I wouldn't be remotely offended by that and I think every single one of my Jewish friends/family would think it hilarious.

So, sorry, playing the 'poor little picked upon Christian' card doesn't really work here.

AMumInScotland · 13/12/2013 09:50

I'd be offended if someone sent one to me personally, because I'm a Christian and I'd assume they were being deliberately insulting.

But, the fact that they exist, and that people for whom 'Christmas' is not a religious occasion send them to other people who feel the same, doesn't offend me in the slightest.

'Christmas' is tricky - by name, yep it's a Christian festival. But Christianity hijacked the old 'Midwinter Festival' and relabelled it, so it is an odd mishmash of religious, pagan, secular, family, commercial... you name it, people do it. And all under the label of 'Christmas' even when they don't associate it with Christ.

HettiePetal · 13/12/2013 09:51

So Christmas is all about Christians? Even though the vast, vast majority of us celebrating it are not Christians?

Offence is taken, not given. If people chose to take offence at something that's not aimed at them, then that's their problem.

I think it's funny.

AnnabelleLee · 13/12/2013 09:52

Don't be bogarting the festivities. Christians don't own the holidays.

themaltesefalcon · 13/12/2013 09:52

I think it's funny, but find "Go the fuck to sleep" awfully try-hard.

themaltesefalcon · 13/12/2013 09:53

Merry fucking Hanukkah and Christmas to all, by the way.

Delurkedforthis · 13/12/2013 09:54

Thanks Maltese. And a happy, healthy and cunting New Year to you and yours
