Apparently Urban Outfitters are selling cards with this on. I looked at their website and they also have cards which say "Tinsel tits".
Am I being unreasonable or am I turning into my Grandma ?
I am not a Christian, but I try not to offend other faiths.

gotthemoononastick You're hoping for an earthquake to kill those who made a joke?

You must be christian.

Bunbaker · 13/12/2013 16:41

"bun baker really? Unless the colleague in question is saying fuck to customers/clients I very much doubt that's the reason for her not getting promoted."

Well, it does generally tie in with her attitude to work, so it won't be specifically the language she uses. Although she is in a minority of one in our office to use that kind of language on a daily basis.

Caitlin17 · 13/12/2013 17:30

I hate Christmas. Everything about it. I'd be happy never to have to bother again.

These cards aren't funny. I don't see the point. It's rude and aggressive for no good reason. Sometimes being rude and aggressive is just what is needed but unnecessary rudeness and aggression I can do without.

Caitlin17 · 13/12/2013 17:34

To be clear, it's not offensive. It's also not big or funny or clever .

Sallyingforth · 13/12/2013 17:53

To be clear, it's not offensive.

I think you meant "To be clear, it's not offensive to me."

MurderOfGoths · 13/12/2013 17:55

I quite like it, but then when I had DS a friend sent me a card that just said "Here at fucking last" which I loved!

usualsuspect · 13/12/2013 17:56

I find them very funny.

I also like Merry fucking Christmas wrapping paper and baubles.

pumpkinsweetie · 13/12/2013 18:04

Yep it's time to get the knitting needles out opGrin

People have choice, choice when buying things, something you may find offensive makes some others laugh their heads off and if there is a market for these cards, then a profit is to be made!

Infact i'm sure my toxic cow of a mil would absolutely love deserve one, that's if i was bothering to send her one this yearWink

BackOnlyBriefly · 13/12/2013 18:12

If people are thinking it aggressive etc then perhaps there's a basic misunderstanding. It's not actually meant to be swearing at the person you send it to is it. I mean it's not meant for sending to people you don't like, but people you do like who share your humour.

I'm not impressed with people who can't get to the end of a sentence without using the word, but, as I think someone said, it's funny when it's someone who doesn't normally say it uses it.

biryani · 13/12/2013 18:24

I don't find it particularly offensive, but it's not funny either. It's not witty, or clever, just tasteless and crass.

think the point made in the press is not that it's offensive, but that if a card read "happy f..ing diwali" or "happy f...ing Ramadan " or such like there'd be an outcry, regardless of whether offence was taken by the religious group in question or not.

Why then should Christians be considered fair game?

snowed · 13/12/2013 18:26

Anyone heard the joke about the atheist?

No, thought not!

Orangeanddemons · 13/12/2013 18:28

I think they're funny, and so do all my colleagues. I even told a colleague about one that said "Merry Christmas Bell End"

After he had finished crying with laughter, he keeps asking me when I'm sending it to him.

These things are meant to be amusing

BackOnlyBriefly · 13/12/2013 18:33

biryani Because it's quite different.

There is no secular diwali or Ramadan, but most of the people celebrating christmas are celebrating the mid-winter festival not the birth of jesus.

So we're talking about a non-christian sending a non-christian a card on their non-christian holiday and some christians weeping "how dare you have a go at me like that"

austenozzy · 13/12/2013 18:37

i sent my mate a dean morris card saying 'merry xmas you fat wanker'. he thought it was hilarious. totally puerile and crass but funny between friends . some of you would explode if you looked at that site!

usualsuspect · 13/12/2013 18:46

There's a shop in my city that sells Dean Morris cards.I love it.

Caitlin17 · 13/12/2013 18:50

snowed don't get your point.
Biryani I agree with you. It's just not funny, clever or witty. I suppose humour is subjective but there is nothing, to me, inherently funny in sticking in a random swear word.

The calculated, well -thought out and exuberantly baroque swearing in The Thick of It for example is completely different. Funny, witty, clever and frequently very offensive.

Ah

"So you're offended? So what?"

How dreadfully Stephen Fry

I'm not offended. They're not funny, they're just not anything. A bit try hard at best. You are perfectly allowed to be offended.

Incidentally what the fuck is 'bogarting'?

olidusUrsus · 13/12/2013 19:42

I think it's meant to be ironic tbh, like the vulgar cross stitches & cushions UO & others sometimes do. Tbf I doubt mumsnet is UO's target market. Can't believe someone can be offended over a card, in the words of Stephen Fry, "so fucking what?"

olidusUrsus · 13/12/2013 19:43

Haha at X-post with Stephen Fry quote! How about Michael Winner instead? Calm down dear, it's only a card...

True MrsDV, quotes are pretty much bollocks by nature.

amistoopid · 13/12/2013 20:01

In my opinion Christians are very inclusive, tolerant of other religions and secure enough in their faith to turn a blind eye to such a quote (or risk calls of racism / bigotry if not...)i In my opinion though, YANBU.

notanotherusername1 · 13/12/2013 20:07

I might buy one and send it to my Dad as a Janet and Ray. Grin

If you knew my Dad you would do the same.

LittleMissGreen · 13/12/2013 20:16

I'm a Christian. I'm not offended, but as a PP described well for me "they jar". If you don't like Christmas you don't have to celebrate it. Our version of Christmas is definitely not the massive hyped up commercial Christmas that seems rampant on MN. I don't think I'd like to celebrate that either - but then you don't have to call it Christmas either, because it isn't.
