BBC drama of the best sort. Understated, moving and hilarious all at the same time.

YADNBU! I love it.

LittleMissRed · 27/11/2013 17:48

I didn't see the first series and have only seen he last couple of episodes and think it is fantastic, understated, moving and hilarious covers it perfectly!

Heartbrokenmum73 · 27/11/2013 17:50

I'm regretting not watching the first series tbh. I'm the kind of person who can't start something 'late' so I'm reluctant to start it now, without all the backstory.

I don't know why I didn't watch the first series, either, because it has such a fantastic cast - how can you not love Derek Jacobi and Ann Reid?

Nancy66 · 27/11/2013 17:56

It's wonderful. Anne Reid is a phenomenal actress. If you haven't seen The Mother with her and Daniel Craig then definitely worth watching.

AngryGnome · 27/11/2013 17:58

Aargh, didn't know new series had started! How many have I missed? The first series was one of the best dramas I have seen in a long time.

eofa1 · 27/11/2013 17:59

Somebody appears to have uploaded series one on youtube. Would really, really recommend it. Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid are brilliant, and the rest of the cast is terrific. Sarah Lancashire is ace, but I actually think the top performance is Nicola Walker (her out of Spooks).

I love it. I realised I was getting old when I did a little squeal of delight when I saw that there was a new series! DH and I like pointing and shouting "been there...."

eofa1 · 27/11/2013 18:00

You've missed a couple of episodes Angry, but they're both still available to watch on iplayer. Has started off just as good as S1.

eofa1 · 27/11/2013 18:01

Haha, me too Bike! Especially when they did the scenes at Turton Tower. Much pointing and shouting!

And will give The Mother a watch, haven't seen it.

I'm feeling very sorry for Gillian, I think she's getting a really raw deal this series.

eofa1 · 27/11/2013 18:06

Me too!

I love it. The first one was fab and this one is brilliant too.

SauvignonBlanche · 27/11/2013 18:36

YANBU, I love it too.

helenthemadex · 27/11/2013 18:36

its really good, I didnt think I would like it when I saw the trailers for the first series but watched because there was nothing else on and got hooked

BackforGood · 27/11/2013 18:38

NOOOOOOOO! I saw it was on the other night and assumed it was a repeat. Why did no-one tell me it was a new series ????? Angry
Will have to iplayer it now.

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 27/11/2013 18:49

I think it's ok as a programme but I'm not sure I would watch it, if it wasn't for the fact it's based where I live and I like spotting places I know on it. :o

MyBaby1day · 28/11/2013 12:12

I saw some of it being filmed as I live in Halifax!!!. The wedding!. Also a cafe where I often go, they showed a scene filmed in there Tuesday night!. Yes LittleMiss!!, I spotted the travel company and Jessops too!! Grin

squoosh · 28/11/2013 12:15

No.

I watched the first series and enjoyed it. I have to say though, I'm finding the second series a bit dull and soap opera-ish.

Arabesque1 · 28/11/2013 12:27

I saw the first episode and didn't watch it again until this week. I thought it was brilliant. Sarah Lancashire is fantastic.

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 28/11/2013 12:30

MyBaby1day hello :o

I didn't see it being filmed but I get very excited when I recognize places, on one shot you could almost see my street in the distance, I leapt up out of my chair!

Which cafe was it? I spotted Julio's Italian restaurant and the town hall :)

twoturtledoves · 28/11/2013 13:35

It's brilliant. Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid are so convincing and I love the Caroline/John relationship. Also wonderful to see so much of the Yorkshire countryside, being a Yorkshire lass myself!

yourcruisedirector · 28/11/2013 13:38

I love watching it, the acting is superb even if the plot is a little silly at times. I was born in Halifax and lived there until 18 - I'm miles away now so I feel very nostalgic for the scenery and the accents. Loved the high street shots!
