BBC drama of the best sort. Understated, moving and hilarious all at the same time.

Wonderful acting, recognisable characters and perceptive writing make this programme one of the best from recent years. I'm thrilled it won the Bafta a few months ago.

BringMeTea · 29/11/2013 08:11

First one was enjoyable with some reservations, e.g. Nearly every character at some point called a female character a 'bitch'. Just weird scriptwriting.

This second one is dire. I feel embarrassed for the fine actors delivering such poor lines in a plot with no credibility or character consistency. I really wanted to like it!

MyBaby1day · 01/12/2013 06:40

@LittleMiss it was The Monte Carlo (near the Town Hall) and yes saw that too!. Oh, you must be like me and live near the town too!!, if they'de have gone a bit further up they may have caught my home!!, fame at last!! Grin

Southeastdweller · 01/12/2013 13:07

Does anyone else love Caroline's house in Harrogate?

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 01/12/2013 17:34

MyBaby1day ooh I've never been there, might have to go now :o

Yes it sounds like you live quite near me!

flipchart · 03/12/2013 21:34

Watching it now.
Celia is just winding me up. She is sly!

This one is a bit better than the previous 2 in this series.

issey6cats · 03/12/2013 22:26

i live in halifax too and yes it was the monte carlo by the town hall and i saw them filming near the white swan but couldnt hang around as i was off to work, i love this drama and its ace trying to recognise bits of the area that you recognise the farm where the daughter lives is near oxenhope

bluebizzy · 03/12/2013 22:31

I've gone off this series. Disappointed really as I thought the first series was excellent. I wonder where the baby will end up?!

Ajaney · 03/12/2013 23:18

Who was in the coffin in the trailer for next week, thats what I want to know!

notundermyfoof · 03/12/2013 23:35

I think its fairly obvious that the baby is going to go to Caroline and her oh (can't remember the name!) Its a shame if they do go for something so predictable but I can't see any other way for the story to go. This is my favourite thing to watch atm though!

Lomaamina · 16/12/2013 20:04

Where is everyone? No posts after last week's excellent episode 4? There was a good review of it in the Telegraph www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/tv-and-radio-reviews/10508159/Last-Tango-In-Halifax-episode-four-review.html.

I thought it true to say that Jacobi's skills lifted the episode to another level. The reviewer doesn't mention it here, but Jacobi's scene with the elder teenage boy, Edward Ashley playing William was so good. All the acting was with the eyes. I thought Sarah Lancashire was great too. You could so sympathise with the tough professional being brilliant at her job and nigh useless (or is it more fair to say helpless) on the home front.

AcheyFanny · 16/12/2013 20:42

The farm where Gillian lives is in Rochdale.

flipchart · 17/12/2013 08:28

I posted on another thread on MN about last weeks.
It was probably the best one out of series 2 so far but it is so chaotic.

I preferred series 1 still and think they should have left it at that.

DS1 is still persevering with it as well.

Lomaamina · 17/12/2013 14:00

Ah thanks flipchart. Link here: to anyone around www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/a1916953-Last-Tango-in-Halifax

poshfrock · 18/12/2013 07:27

It's very good but I wish they would stop saying that Halifax is 60 miles from Harrogate. It's not. It's about 30.

flipchart · 18/12/2013 08:36

poshfrock you are right there! I find that annoying as annoying as well!

AcheyFanny · 18/12/2013 20:01

I just watched last nights episode. Nicola Walker is fabulous.

MyBaby1day · 19/12/2013 07:43

@Lomaamina, I'm still here!! Grin

MyBaby1day · 19/12/2013 07:44

@Lomaamina I'm still here and still watching it!!, get on that map Halifax!! Grin

Lomaamina · 19/12/2013 09:50

Hello all, I've been avoiding the thread till I could catch up on this week's episode. Still only halfway through!

They seem to have jumped ahead in time, haven't they?

Lomaamina · 20/12/2013 11:57

Ok. I've watched it now. I have to say that I have mixed feelings with how the story has developed. The revelation from Gillian was deeply shocking (although I appreciate, signalled for a while now). I found it upsetting and somehow tipping the story overboard with the already quite heavy issues such as the the two sisters (isn't 'our Muriel' the actress from 'The Duchess of Duke Street' many eons ago).

Still I must retune next week, if only to check that Louis is back from his AWOL!

p.s. whoever said above that Ronni Ancona overacts. Goodness me, yes. What's she doing there alongside this stellar cast?
