BBC drama of the best sort. Understated, moving and hilarious all at the same time.

Lots of over-acting this series, and the plot gets a bit Hmm at times. I'm still watching, for now...

GolfingWoes · 28/11/2013 13:51

Oooh, I have (a rather odd) question for all you locals ....

The wind turbines that are in the background of some shots at the farm, where are they in real life?

yourcruisedirector · 28/11/2013 16:07

my dad was pondering about that golfing but he said that they're all over the hills in the area now.

flipchart · 28/11/2013 16:15

We've been talking about this on the Tely Addict threads.
We weren't as enthusiastic as you lot are!
The first series was good, this one is just descending into a madcap farce.
I'm very disappointed with it but will probably give it another view!

harticus · 28/11/2013 16:20

The best programme made by the BBC for many many years.
The current plot twists are superb.
I love the fact that every character is so flawed.
So good to see women getting some decent acting roles for a change too.

squoosh · 28/11/2013 16:21

I agree flipchart, it feels like a different programme.

flipchart · 28/11/2013 16:22

I really think it should have been left at one series.

It's just getting to implausible and daft now.

harticus · 28/11/2013 16:33

Don't agree at all.
Am delighted they decided to keep it going for another series.
It is a light comedy not Hedda fekking Gabler. Hmm

RaRa1988 · 28/11/2013 16:37

Nancy: The Mother??? Tell me more! Film or TV? Anne Reid is indeed wonderful, though her character's a bit of a bitch this series...

eofa1 · 28/11/2013 16:38

She is a bit Daily Mail woman!

squoosh · 28/11/2013 16:39

Not expecting Hedda fecking Gabler just thought the first series was far superior and this series is a bit of a snooze.

Xmasbaby11 · 28/11/2013 16:41

I tried it twice, after rave reviews, and can't warm to it. The story lines are ridiculous and it's full of British luvvies. Not for me.

SnookyAnyFuckerPooky · 28/11/2013 16:43

Golfingwoes yes the wind turbines are real. Scout Moor above Rochdale.

Sorry can't link on Kindle.

JennyOnAPlate · 28/11/2013 16:43

I loved the first series but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with this one so far. It's gone a bit daft!

eofa1 · 28/11/2013 16:46

I like that it manages to combine a bit of sort of classic British farce with some moments of real emotional insight. The characters I find very "real", the storylines not so much! Nice combination.

I like it but I am constantly gob-smacked at what they can say to each other one minute and then be back to being on good terms the next. For example old bloke telling his daughter (Gillian?) last week that she was a constant on-going disappointment! In most families that would be a bit of a 'fuck off' moment surely!

flipchart · 28/11/2013 17:52

The first series was more fun and wittie.
In this one everyone is just rude to each other with plotting and scheming going on.

It's turning into Eastenders!

flumposie · 28/11/2013 18:29

I like it too, especially since my mum lives near Halifax and I live in Harrogate!

GolfingWoes · 28/11/2013 20:23

Ahhh, thanks Snooky I thought I recognised it.

thegreylady · 28/11/2013 20:28

I think it is the best thing on tv atm.Dh and I love it.

carabos · 28/11/2013 21:06

This series is even better than the first IMO. This week's episode was hilarious.

NoelOfLorst · 28/11/2013 21:18

I'm also a 'Fax girl, so extra interested in it.

The first series was wonderful, with some really good moments- loved it when Derek Jacobi confessed to his daughter that he'd found the Daily Mail in thingy's flat. And when Anne Reid called the minister a 'miserable bitch' Grin

I've only seen the first episode of this series so I'm reserving judgement for now...

flipchart · 28/11/2013 21:41

It's funny, on this thread nearly everyone thinks the second series is wonderful, but on the telly addicts thread nearly everyone isn't keen!

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 28/11/2013 21:45

I love it! Grew up locally, now live across the Atlantic so watch online and almost cried when I saw junction 23 on the M62 last week (total saddo emoticon)! Reminds me of growing up and after 15 years of big city living, a much slower pace of life too...
