AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

And a spare for when that one is on charge

McNo · 05/01/2014 18:08

Thank you. Never thought about a spare.. Might just go and order another one.

McNo · 05/01/2014 18:34

Queen I got 4 taster bottles of 10ml. I'm going to go into the shop in town to see what their prices are like. I doubt they will beat joosejuice but I could always get a larger bottle from their if I'm running out

Weelady77 · 05/01/2014 18:48

I bought my kit from my local vapour shop, I've been using 2.4 of nicotine in Blackpool rock and then cherry menthol, my friends just text me she bought 3.6 nicotine!! What is the difference in strengths??

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 19:21

Well done Pfft! Flowers Good, innit? Grin

McNo, 40ml in total sounds like a good amount to start with. As we're all discovering, most places do very fast delivery and you have a local shop too if you find yourself running low.

Weelady, 3.6% (AKA 36mg) is the highest strength recommended for vaping. Any higher than that is really intended to be diluted down before use. Most smokers when they first switch seem to do OK on 18mg, some need 24mg and a few 36mg. Some cut down once they're safely off the fags, others never do. Nicotine on its own is quite similar to caffeine in terms of toxicity. Interesting reading here and here.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 19:25

Dizzy, glad you sorted out your weird battery messages and that your kit is all still working.

Queen, have you tried your iclear 30 yet? I'd be curious to know how you get on after my probs with it.

DizzyZebra · 05/01/2014 19:36

18mg ripped my throat to bits after a few weeks so i wouldn't like yo try 36. I have a batch of 6mg left. I want to go nicotine free but OH says he doesn't want to and in.not keen on buying separately. I might make myself some nicotine free stuff though when we get the stuff to do it with in the near future.

Next time i buy a catch of flavours though the ones i have that he wont touch in going to get nicotine free i think.

DizzyZebra · 05/01/2014 19:39

Plenty i just realised i read your post wrong - My 30 b is not a tight draw at all. The iclear 16 is though so perhaps its a top coil thing with them? OHs 30b isn't tight either x

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 19:40

Go for it Dizzy Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 19:46

Oh right, my iclear 30 not-b is a tighter draw than the iclear 16. I think it's down to the airholes usually although in this case I think something's going wrong with it.

Loriens · 05/01/2014 21:15

Hello, may I join you all? Smile

Today is my first day with an electronic cig. Last 'proper' one smoked at about midnight.

I have been reading through this thread and the previous one; I am getting up to speed with all the lingo.

Just need a bit of moral support (smoker for 26 years and recently moving upwards from a pack a day) and any useful tips!

DizzyZebra · 05/01/2014 21:25

Hi loriens! Well done :)

My best tip is if you're feeling the cravings and you don't feel like the e cig is satisfying them, make sure you're drawing on it right, slowly and holding the vapour in for maximum nicotine absorption.

I struggled for three days until i realised i was doing it wrong, did it right and never wanted a cig again x

QueenStromba · 05/01/2014 21:30

I've put some fruits of the forest flavour in my iclear 30 and have been using it pretty solidly for the last 2-3 days. I've not had any problems with gurgling and find it less tight on the draw than all four of my iclear 16s.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 21:33

Hi Loriens, well done! Flowers

My tips are

  • count the fags you don't smoke, not the ones you do.
  • don't deprive yourself, have as much nicotine as it takes to stop you craving. Once you're used to your new habit you can cut down and give up the nic if you want.
  • make sure you have spares of everything.
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/01/2014 21:36

I wonder wtf is wrong with mine then Queen Confused Has yours got the metal swivelly drip tip? That's where the gurgle seems to be collecting in mine.

QueenStromba · 05/01/2014 21:55

Yup - metal swivelly drip tip. The hole through the drip tip is pretty small though - could they have changed the design slightly and I have a newer model?

Loriens · 05/01/2014 21:59

Thanks for the welcome, great advice.

I did have some trouble getting the 'draw' right but it seems to be getting better.

Day 1 over and 20-30 cigs not smoked.

magimedi · 05/01/2014 22:37

Well done, Loriens.

I was a smoker for 35+ years & now haven't had one for 15 months!

For the first week or so I mixed the ecigs with my rollies &then just stopped the fags (October 19th 2012!!).

I can't begin to tel you how much bette I feel and I have not gained any weight!!

You will soon learn how to draw on your ecig.

Cantabile · 06/01/2014 00:02

Wow Loriens, well done.

Just realised I have smoked for 40 years. That is really awful. I didn't even want to start, just got beaten up by best mate every time I said no to her proffered fags. She didn't want to be caught on her own.

Good vaping to you all, old hands and new. Even though I'm not fag-free I am getting there, thanks to you all. And so is my brother.

Allergictoironing · 06/01/2014 10:26

Oh my I'm loving Vaping Vision! Tried their pick & Mix about a week ago (amazing service, fast delivery etc), and fell in love with the Pineapple. Went to order more this morning, couldn't find it so rang VV. Profuse apologies, told to try again in half an hour while he sorted out why it wasn't there.

Check back 15 mins later (need to go out soon) and it's back up there already - customer service at it's best IMO Thanks

LucyLasticBand · 06/01/2014 10:57

vaping vision is great.
though they send me masses of emails to let me know my order is coming Hmm
still, it is good value for money.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 06/01/2014 11:08

I've joined the vaping ranks. Ordered a starter kit from e-smokeless and it came today. I started with the really low nicotene level liquid because I was only smoking a few rollies a day (mostly - sometimes more when going out) so I figured I didn't really need to increase the amount of nicotene I was getting.

So far I really like it! Got the apple flavour and the normal tobacco flavour. Apples nice!

MrsLeonard · 06/01/2014 16:21

hi. i have just stopped smoking and am using a vype e-cig from lloyds pharmacy. its an 11.3mg/ 3.0% nicotine one. I am on day 5 now, and although struggling i feel healthier already. i smoked for 18 years and have recently been on 20 a day

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 06/01/2014 16:47

Well done and welcome to the thread BigHairy and MrsL Flowers

MrsL, there are a few links a page or so back to some good value starter kits. In terms of liquid, if you are struggling a bit you could probably do with 18mg, at least to start with. Also, you might want to try some different flavours.

McNo · 06/01/2014 17:18

I'm itching to get started. Received email to say the ecig has been posted, nothing from joosejuice to say the liquid has been posted but I only ordered yesterday so not expecting that for a few days.
