AIBU ... to STILL feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes? [thread 2]

magimedi · 15/11/2013 22:02

Here we go with thread two.

There is a great deal of information on Thread One about vaping :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1865547-to-feel-positively-evangelical-about-electronic-cigarettes?pg=1

I think that many of us have been able to give up smoking thanks to e-cigs & vaping & are all feeling the positive results & want to spread the message.

goodasitgets · 03/01/2014 18:17

I have tonsillitis and can't taste anything Angry
Refusing to waste my yummy peanut butter if I can't taste it so I'm on spiced orange which is vile Grin
Doctor asked how much I smoke, I said "normal or ecigs?"
Her words were "normal, you can use the ecig as much as you want, people seem to give up normal smoking with them, I approve"

QueenStromba · 03/01/2014 19:07

I think the only suppliers I haven't received stuff from next postal day if ordered by lunchtime are ones abroad. I once won a five pack of GSH2s for about £3 at 4pm on ebay and got them the next day.

I think it's due to the recent explosion in vapers resulting in a load of new businesses starting up. Everyone wants to make a good impression by posting quickly and now it's become industry standard - the people who take their time to post aren't going to get much in the way of repeat customers unless they're offering something different/cheaper. This will be why Joose Juice turned off their shopping facility while they were closed for Christmas - they'd have had too big of a backlog to get through to make sure that new orders were next day.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 04/01/2014 10:49

I need help!

I want to get started, but I have no clue. All this talk about mixing liquids and battery stuff...I feel very confused.

I saw this on ParadiseVape www.paradisevapeuk.co.uk/product-p/xmas-ego.htm?1=1&CartID=1

And it looks very cheap, am I going to be disappointed? Can I use any liquids with these? What is the difference between PG/VG? When I select a liquid, it asks what mix I want confused

Cantabile · 04/01/2014 11:46

That is cheap! Am tempted myself!

What you get in that kit is a battery, a clearomiser, a charger and a suction cup stand (I have not got one of those so if you get it let me know if it's any good!). You will need eliquid and a spare battery and probably a spare clearo. As they're so cheap, you may as well get two of those kits as fart about finding compatible spares.

You may want a usb wall plug for charging, but you can just plug those chargers in to your computer. See how you go.

I would get a generic tobacco-flavoured eliquid, about 10ml, at first, just to see how you get on. My first bottle lasted me a week or more, but in a couple of days I knew I wanted a slightly different flavour (specifically apple!). I then filled my tank half and half baccy/apple, but now I don't bother with baccy flavour at all. I have some which I use for people who want to see what it's like to vape to have a go with.

Don't worry about all the technical stuff for the moment. You may get into it but lots of people don't.

Keep an eye on your liquid levels. You don't want to run out on a weekend like I did!

Good luck!

magimedi · 04/01/2014 11:52

Also see if you have a e cig/vaping shop near you. Ther are loads around, easy to Google for. You will get a lot of help & explanation if you pop into your local one & most likely the chance to sample a few different flavours.

Your name is also very apt for this thread Grin

I've found these blister packs on Amazon - almost double the battery life. I've not ordered any myself though so I can't speak to the quality or how good the seller is. You'd want two of those or at least three of the ones you linked to - especially if you're going to be out and about with no option to charge.

I'd suggest getting a selection of ten ml liquids. Joose Juice are cheap and well liked by other posters on this thread and do quick dispatches. I'd suggest one tobacco flavour, one fruit flavour, something from the sweet selection and maybe a coffee or mint flavour if you think you'll like that sort of thing.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 04/01/2014 12:20

Grin thanks guys!

Have been looking around and there is a shop in town, but they look like they sell slightly more expensive stuff and I just want something cheap to get me started. I was going to buy online, but if I do that then I am going to have to buy more fags until it gets here, given that it's saturday. May take a trip out to the shop.

Going to order some liquids online, I think - then they will be here when Ive had a go at whatever I pick up in the shop.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 04/01/2014 12:25

I'm going for something fruity I think as I actually dont like the taste of fags. I quit about 9 years ago cold turkey then started when I was stressed about a year ago again. I hate the taste of fags but cant seem to stop, am hoping this will help.

Allergictoironing · 04/01/2014 12:34

As you are lucky enough to have a shop locally (jealous!), if you go in there they should let you have a try of a few different flavours. Would be well worth getting to know the guys who run it as they can really help and advise you if it's a good shop.

Hopasholic · 04/01/2014 13:03

Can I ask a quick question? I use tablites E-cig and (after advice on the earlier thread) now just re fill the cartomisers myself with E-liquid. I seem to be getting through a 10ml bottle of liquid a week/ten days, is this excessive? I think sometimes I over fill and waste some liquid but I never seem to have the E-cig put of my mouth!

I had really bad gums when I was smoking and they were in much better condition after I stopped. I then went back on the fags for a bit before I discovered Ecigs a year ago. This time my visit to the dentist didn't go so well and I'm experiencing a lot of bleeding again. The hygienist said it could be attributed to the ecig as nicotine itself does have an impact on gum health.

Just wondered if my use is excessive and if anybody else had gum problems?

I'm on 24mg strength but don't know if the answer is to drop the strength (as I might use even more) or try and come off it altogether (but I don't really want to as I'll just pile on the 2 stone I gained when I went cold turkey before! And I enjoy it)

Not a quick question after all Blush

LucyLasticBand · 04/01/2014 13:05

have you tried 18 mg
i was recommended that, lower is 11 mg for people who smoke less. but 24 mg seems excessive

LucyLasticBand · 04/01/2014 13:06

you say it is always in your mouth? so even it was 18 mg , it would still always be in your mouth.

Cantabile · 04/01/2014 13:17

Yes, try some 18mg. I was on 40-50 fags a day, and started with 18mg liquid. I'm still using that strength, and it's in my mouth most of the day, but I don't feel a craving for it, it's habit more than anything else, as I don't work and am at home most of the time. I think if I were at work I wouldn't find it too hard to put it down for a while. Mind you, I do still smoke as well. My consumption went down to 10-15 in one fell swoop with no effort at all, and yesterday I had 5 altogether - frightened me a bit tbh! Grin

Hopasholic · 04/01/2014 13:20

Thanks for the replies, I'll give 18mg a go next time. Is 10ml a lot to get through?

Hopasholic · 04/01/2014 13:22

Well done though Cantabile Think of all that dosh you're saving!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/01/2014 13:53

Pfft, I've got a couple of cheapo kits from paradise vape and they seem good quality for what they are - DH has been using the batteries for about 3 months now and they still last as long between charges. I would have recommended this kit for £1.50 more as you get two really good clearomisers (iclear 16) ... but it's out of stock.

Hopasholic, I haven't seen any research that says that nicotine itself is damaging to gums. I do know that if you have gum disease, when you stop smoking your gums are likely to bleed more, simply because the circulation improves. One other thing to consider is that vaping can give you a dry mouth which itself can encourage dental problems, so make sure you are drinking plenty.

10ml a week is lowish consumption, most vapers get through 2-5ml/day according to a couple of polls I have seen on forums. Also it seems to be usual for people to spend more time vaping than they did smoking. You will know if you're overdoing it - you will start to feel a bit sick and will put it down, just as you would if you smoked too much. Smile

Try some 18mg but if you find yourself craving fags, don't be worried about going back to 24mg. It's the right strength for lots of people.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 04/01/2014 13:59

thanks POPG Smile

Hopasholic · 04/01/2014 14:26

Oh thanks Plenty Smile
I was worried I was the Dot Cotton of vaping! I do get a dry mouth so will increase the water consumption. When I first gave up smoking my gums bled so much I thought my teeth were going to drop out but they settled down after a while.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 04/01/2014 16:33

Just wanted to say I went to the little shop in town today greyhaze.co.uk/ In Birmingham, and they were very good. Probably spent more money than I could have got away with, being able to search out something online and all, but I wanted someone to explain it for me.

I got strawberry and vimto flavours Grin

thanks for all the help!

QueenStromba · 04/01/2014 17:49

Glad you found a good shop Pfft :)

What kit did you get?

DizzyZebra · 04/01/2014 17:52

I'm tempted to order a couple of those kids myself to tempt any amoker friends that visit. That is a very good price.

meddie · 04/01/2014 17:54

Today is exactly one year since I ditched the stinkies for vaping. I couldnt even imagine smoking one now. They smell so bad. Currently vaping blackcurrant menthol. Have also reduced my nic from 18mg to 8. Best thing I ever did

DizzyZebra · 04/01/2014 17:55

10ml isn't excessive. I can get through 10ml on a dual coil in two days, hopsholic

magimedi · 04/01/2014 17:57

Well done, meddie - I'm now nearly 15months in!

I do think if you can go to a shop when starting out it is worth the extra cost. My local shop are fab - great with any problems & returns of faulty batteries etc.
