AIBU to consider putting the decorations up this weekend?

In my defence:

It is my last weekend off until the 21st of December

We had a pretty shit Christmas last year. (Dd was 18mo and we were technically homeless for the 8 days preceding Christmas eve)

We had no decorations up at all last year.

I am stupidly excited that dd is finally aware of what Christmas is, so want to spend all of my spare time in December taking her to Carol concerts, garden centres, craft events and similar.

Go on then... do your worst! Grin

It only takes me two hours max to put up Christmas decorations. Couldn't you do it a weekday evening in Dec rather than a weekend?

I think you'll all be sick of them by the 1st of Dec if you put them up this weekend. and your postman will talk about you Grin

Amythesianwaterfall · 11/11/2013 20:38

Yanbu!! I feel exactly the same and you only want to put them up early for ds!!! ( that's what I'm telling dh!)
I say put them up and enjoy the magic:)

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 11/11/2013 20:39

Go for it. Just don't come moaning to me when your sick of the sight of it and the child has tipped the tree over for the 30th time

Amythesianwaterfall · 11/11/2013 20:39

Sorry- dd!!

SPsDoesntLikeChaffingFishnets · 11/11/2013 20:40

Nooooo!
Grin

No outside one as a compromise? Grin

I don't acknowledge Christmas til the 1st dec.

Tee2072 · 11/11/2013 20:41

Yes, YABU

Floralnomad · 11/11/2013 20:41

I'd wait until the start of December , that said my dsis got me a moose head from Wilkinsons yesterday and he's gone up in my lounge today .( I think he will be staying all year)

MamaBear17 · 11/11/2013 20:42

I love Christmas, but agree you will be fed up by December if you peak too early! Couldn't you visit a garden centre and drool at their displays instead? In all honesty, do what makes you happy Smile

ICameOnTheJitney · 11/11/2013 20:42

YABU. You don't need a weekend off to put up decorations! If you do them now, they won't feel special by the time Christmas comes.

Wait at least till the 1st of December. Do the tree one evening, then other things on the evenings after that. Much nicer and more appropriate.

Mylovelyboy · 11/11/2013 20:43

You said you had a shit christmas last year. Well you go for it. If it will make you happy and give you pleasure then why not. Bet you get sick of them within a fortnight Smile

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 20:44

God, SPs - I think I love you, what with your views on Frys chocolate and now not acknowledging Christmas til Dec 1st.

DD's birthday is 30 November, so we try toignore Christmas til Dec 1st as best we can.

I bought advent calendars today though...

SPsDoesntLikeChaffingFishnets · 11/11/2013 20:45

Toddler is 4 on 29th so I like to ignore Christmas til.that is over with.

steppemum · 11/11/2013 20:45

Shock Shock Shock

I wouldn't because for me the sparkle starts to wear off, if I wait till nearer the time the excitement lasts

hey go on, do what you want, it is your house and your dd Smile

farrowandbawl · 11/11/2013 20:46

Go for it.

Having a shit Christmas is what makes me excited about Christmas now. If you want your decorations up, then do it. Now your dc are old enough to know what Chrsitmas is, you can make it as magical as you want for the next few years. Start some new traditions - a chocolate coin trail down the stairs from his room on Christmas day for example...or what another poster does, cover the door to the room with the presents in with wrapping paper so your child has to burst through it....

THIS, is the best part of Christmas - starting new traditions and hoping your children will carry them on, or reviving the ones you had as a child.

mrsjay · 11/11/2013 20:46

Yes YABU and a bit bonkers it is not even mid november you can put them up the 1st if you like they will just get dusty anyway , I dont put mine up till 12 days before

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 20:46

I've already got the owl out of the loft that does the countdown to Christmas, but think that's fairly acceptable.

Would only do the lounge, nothing that could be seen from the pavement.. Grin

Shock

Nooooooooooo, just Noooooooooooo Grin

UrethraFranklin · 11/11/2013 20:49

Decorate now if you want! As you say, nothing will be seen from the pavement, so nobody will drive past and think you're crazy Wink

ThePinkOcelot · 11/11/2013 20:50

Definitely very very unreasonable.

Mintyy · 11/11/2013 20:50

Yes. You would be very silly to do this.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 20:51

Can I just say there was a house near my dc's old preschool that used to throw plastic tat decorate the front of their house and light it all up on 1st October each year!

And it was a tiny little terraced house, covered in huge, wonky snowmen and Father Christmases. It looked manic!

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/11/2013 20:52

I want an owl that does the countdown to Christmas!

Where did you get it, OP?

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 20:53

farrowandbawl I think I luffs you! Grin

I won't get bored, I had such a shit Christmas last year that I will never take a single strand of tinsel or overcooked brussel sprout for granted again.

I will try to restrain myself a little bit longer though. :(

You'll be one of the people posting on Boxing Day that you've taken them down because you're sick of the sight of them if you do.

LittleBearPad · 11/11/2013 20:55

YABU. It's not December yet. No decs til December 1st at least.
