AIBU to consider putting the decorations up this weekend?

In my defence:

It is my last weekend off until the 21st of December

We had a pretty shit Christmas last year. (Dd was 18mo and we were technically homeless for the 8 days preceding Christmas eve)

We had no decorations up at all last year.

I am stupidly excited that dd is finally aware of what Christmas is, so want to spend all of my spare time in December taking her to Carol concerts, garden centres, craft events and similar.

Go on then... do your worst! Grin

I can't remember, I've had it a while Heartbroken, but I did see a similar one in the Range last week. :)

Maryz - would you like one of those black santa hats you can get in the shops?

TheGinLushMinion · 11/11/2013 21:18

Well I say go for it, sounds like last year was awful so why not Grin

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 21:21

No, no, no, no,no. Yan only bu - you are being insane.

MuffCakes · 11/11/2013 21:28

I love christmas and mine go up on the first, can you not just go through all the decs or start making some christmas bunting or wreaths to hold out for a couple more weeks?

CiderwithBuda · 11/11/2013 21:30

A neighbour of my sister's has hers up. She is getting the p* taken royally. It's madness this early. Don't do it. You will get fed up of it all. It's much more special when they are up for a limited time.

But in the meantime - are you on Pinterest? Go and look at all the Xmas stuff in there. I love Xmas and Xmas decorations and buy far too much. But I don't like having them up too early. But I love planning! Pinterest has some lovely ideas.

Strumpetron · 11/11/2013 21:33

YABU

It's uber tacky to put them up so early, and I don't think you're uber tacky so... Everyone sniggers at 'that house'.

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 21:34

I've done that already Muffcakes. And wrapped some presents! Grin.

Truly though, if you'd lived through a Christmas like ours was, you'd want to make this one special for your dc too.

Just one teensy 6ft tree and some bunting would be ok though, wouldn't it? Grin

As long as you keep the up until 12th night I'm not bothered when you put them up.

Figgygal · 11/11/2013 21:36

December 1st at the earliest I'm
Afraid!!

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 21:37

Nobody would even know, I'll leave the outside stuff til after my birthday at the start of December?

specialsubject · 11/11/2013 21:37

it's your house, paint it purple inside and cover it with all the sparkly tat you want!

(but be prepared for some sniggering from visitors...)

CiderwithBuda · 11/11/2013 21:53

I know your Xmas last year was rubbish but how does putting Xmas decs up in November this year help? It's not even the middle of November! Honestly - you will be soooooo fed up with them by the time Xmas comes.

Beastofburden · 11/11/2013 21:55

December, earliest.

In our house, 21 st would be perfect. 12th night isn't till 6 jan so that leaves over 2 weeks of decorations.

Christmas is a festival not a fifth season...

Beastofburden · 11/11/2013 21:56

But u can make your pudding and Christmas cake this weekend, that is traditional

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 21:59

Ooh, that's a good idea beast.

And maybe a few mince pies? :)

OP posts:
Beastofburden · 11/11/2013 22:11

Excellent idea :)

Eat Christmas stuff all November, that's a plan ;)

CatThiefKeith · 11/11/2013 22:19

Sounds good to me! Grin

OwlinaTree · 11/11/2013 22:49

A couple of years ago me and dh went to get a tree the last weekend of Nov as we were so busy that was the only time we could go. Stood it in the porch till dec tho, couldn't put decs up in Nov!
