To feel a bit sorry for Ruby?

Can't believe all the negative press and comments on here about poor Ruby on GBBO.
It's as if people just cannot stand the fact she can bake and she's pretty. And she's not even smiley and apologetic for it! Cheeky mare Wink

Sorry captain, was presumptuous of me to assume everyone would know what I was talking about.

Great British Bake Off final tonight on BBC2.

I do feel sorry for her. She's two years younger than me and I do wish she'd kind of be a bit...happier? I can see how worried she is about it all, but the way she can make something fantastic and down play it very dramatically is what I did when I was a child and wanted people to tell me how good it was Blush I do think she's in a difficult position. With the judges (or rather, one judge) clearly supporting her, I think being proud of her work or showing the same kind of self confidence as Kimberly might put people off her. She probably feels quite awkward and worried about how she's come across. What HAS come across, I don't particularly like, but I doubt that is what she means or is really like.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 22/10/2013 18:19

Kimberley should wein. She's the best all-round.

Gwendoline

I don't agree she's fair game. I don't think anything should go. Talk about her baking, not her looks, facial expressions etc etc

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 22/10/2013 18:19

jamie you will probably be right - another 5-6 years and I'll be there. Ruby doesn't piss me off too much, I am one of the few people in Britain hoping she wins (waits flaming)

insummer if she was plain she would be more popular I think you may be right about this

Remotecontrolduck · 22/10/2013 18:19

I don't think her presentational skills are very good baking wise, but if they taste as good as Mary and Paul say then she obviously has some talent. It must be difficult to decide between pretty but bland bakes such as Francis apparently makes, and scruffy but nice tasting ones like Ruby makes.

I don't like all the hate directed at Ruby really, she can't help the fact she's very pretty. If anything any vitrol should be directed at Paul/Mary/producers as they're the ones who should be impartial and judge solely on the quality of the bakes, not how attractive/emotional the contestants are.

I think it's normal for someone of 21 to be quite insecure, she's probably just nervous! (Or maybe playing a game, I don't know)

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 22/10/2013 18:19

I have a soft spot for her because she goes to my old uni and (guessing from the shots of her in halls) she lives in my old halls of residence. Daft logic, I know. I don't think her bakes are as polished as Kimberley or Frances' though so I think that makes her the weakest of the finalists.

I wept when Glen left anyway.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 22/10/2013 18:19

Middle ish aged, harrased women who claim to not have time to brush their hair, who struggle to put something edible together for their screaming brats at the end of a long day eating cake they can only dream of being able to make, hating a pretty young girl with talent?

Who'd have thunk it.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 22/10/2013 18:20

Obviously people are forgetting the Brendan hate of last year if they think it's not always been this way.

And the reason people say 'she's not all that pretty' is because of people going on and on about how gorgeous she is.

She isn't. She needs to eat a sandwich and do something with her hair. She is on TV, whether a baking show or not.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 22/10/2013 18:20

I don't understand why anyone would feel put off by Kimberley either unless they are jealous or insecure.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 22/10/2013 18:21

Also, I'm over 40. She pisses me off.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 22/10/2013 18:22

TEE

This is the first year I've watched. I'm really enjoying the baking.

SilverOldie · 22/10/2013 18:23

Why would I, a 68 year old woman give a damn whether she was attractive or not? Bizarre reason as to why you think I find her irritating. She was lucky not to be booted out last week - unfortunately Beca was even worse.

There has been talk of her being approached to do a tv programme. Can just imagine it - 'made this but it's so crap, you may or not want to try the recipe', pouting and whimpering. Ugh definitely one to miss.

valiumredhead · 22/10/2013 18:24

I don't dislike her because she's pretty and no one has said that's the reason they dislike get on the other thread. Do we need another one? thread police

valiumredhead · 22/10/2013 18:25

Silver-Grin that's exactly how it would be!

TEErickOrTEEreat · 22/10/2013 18:25

Looking in the mirror ILetHimKeep20Quid?

I assure I am not harassed, unbrushed or unable to cook. I am, however, middle aged.

So fucking what?

doormat · 22/10/2013 18:26

she could invest in a hairbrush..looks like a birdnest

Annagramma · 22/10/2013 18:28

If we're discussing her looks, her eyes are beautiful.

I think she's by the far the weakest finalist. I think Frances has been overlooked by some people because she was supposed to have made bland but beautiful stuff at the start (the opposite of Ruby?) however, I think she's done very well generally for both taste and presentation, with a few bland bakes which stick in the mind? I like Kimberley (although I'm jealous, she's pretty, self confident and good at baking from what has been shown on TV) and Frances.

notanyanymore · 22/10/2013 18:28

she does come across as abit whingey and is constantly pulling simpering faces, it does get a bit grating after a while

MsWilliamTheBloody · 22/10/2013 18:29

There has been talk of her being approached to do a tv programme. Can just imagine it - 'made this but it's so crap, you may or not want to try the recipe', pouting and whimpering. Ugh definitely one to miss.

Grin

Might make a refreshing change from the other smug TV chefs though..!

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 22/10/2013 18:29

Middle aged and sounding incredibly bitter and twisted and well jel!

valiumredhead · 22/10/2013 18:30

It's so ridiculous to assume because someone doesn't like another person's manner that they are jealous of their looksConfused

newgirl · 22/10/2013 18:31

Jeez some of you are really nasty - she's a young woman on a baking show. Good luck to her.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/10/2013 18:32

I don't dislike her because of her looks I just find her false and irritating.
And no I'm not jealous.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 22/10/2013 18:32

She needs to eat a sandwich and do something with her hair isn't really a comment on her manner now is it?

NotYoMomma · 22/10/2013 18:33

I really like ruby. I cant stand Kimberley!

peace bread? fuck off man
