what do you set your thermostat to?

After reading multiple threads on whether or not eople have put their cental heating on yet, people that are struggling to afford to put it. what do you have yours set at? I've seen a lot of people say 18 but that's freezing in this house.

ours is set at 24.5 and is on roughly 4 hours a day giv or take. I hate the cold and we live in Scotland so unfortunately it's cold alot.

our new one is digital. it took us 3 days and lot's of Google searches to turn it on Blush

18 here but turn it up to 20 if having visitors as realise this may feel cool to some.

19 is comfortable for us. Just 1 degree lower and it's noticeably chillier. We can't put it up much more than that because DD, 7mo, seems to have a personal radiator. I've never known such a hot baby.

Our is set at 18(lowest temp) and 22(highest temp)
So in the morning our heating clicks on at 7.30 if it is below 18.
In the evening it clicks in at 5pm but will not go above 22.
Hope that makes sense, I'm in the south east and I will stick with these setting from now, all through winter.

  1. And that feels very warm in our house (new build, thermostat is in downstairs hallway, upstairs feels much warmer). Occasionally up to 21 if we are feeling poorly and shivery, but have to turn it off after a couple of hours as too warm. Our house holds the heat though - I turned the thermostat down to 10 when I left for work yesterday to prevent the heating from coming on, and when I got home the thermostat clicked on at 18.

18 or 19. I'd be boiling hot and angry if it was as high as yours OP! If it gets very cold then I put it at 21 for an hour and that's enough. But our house is very good at holding it's heat. Do you have draughts?

oops! If I'm really cold or the weather is v cold/windy then I do turn it up slightly.

Ours is set at 19. That's quite adequate here, if it's up much higher we all get far too hot.

no body ou house hold the hat very well. We're a family that feels the cold though. my dd will wear a onesie and housecoat mid AugustHmm

Around 18 or 19. DH and I work from home so once we switch it on on the boiler, it's on all the time, just clicks on when the temperature drops.

Mind you I do where jumpers and a scarf in the house. But we've always done that rather than turning the heating up.

We have just had central heating installed (Biomass) so we are still trying to figure out appropriate settings. For now we have it at 16 in the morning if it is a school day and we are all rushing around to go out, 18 at weekends and school holiday at the moment as well. 18 if we have it on during the day if it is cold, and 20 when sitting down in the evening (miss the open fire :()

Dh and I do disagree slightly - he reckons it should be warm enough to be able to relax on the sofa in T-shirt and boxers, I think trousers and jumper are appropriate clothing for indoors!

Mine's usually between 15 and 20. And off durin g the day when there's just me at home if I can manage it. And usually off at night too.

24 - any lower and I'm shivering.

And I do wear thermals and a jumper. I'm just naturally cold

DH who doesn't feel like the cold likes to have it on 16/17. But as someone who really feels the cold that's too cold for me and I ramp it up to 19/20 and DH is always turning it down telling me to wear an extra jumper...grrrr...it's a constant source of argument at home.

15 at the moment as I've got my own heating system going on at 33weeks pregnant, DH is having to bundle up in jumpers and blankets whilst I waltz about barefoot in vest tops and shorts (yes, I'm aware I'm weird!).
I expect we will turn it up to between 18 and 20 once I start feeling cold. Our house holds heat quite well so it doesn't need to be high or on for long.p, thank goodness.
