After reading multiple threads on whether or not eople have put their cental heating on yet, people that are struggling to afford to put it. what do you have yours set at? I've seen a lot of people say 18 but that's freezing in this house.

ours is set at 24.5 and is on roughly 4 hours a day giv or take. I hate the cold and we live in Scotland so unfortunately it's cold alot.

  1. With the right clothing on I think that should be ok for most people. Are you sure yours is working properly? 24 seems quite high?
BeaWheesht · 17/10/2013 10:15

21

TheGhostofAmandaClarke · 17/10/2013 10:17

I set it at 18. During the day.
Then DH turns it up, then I turn it down........

ThreeCacklesLovesCandyApples · 17/10/2013 10:18

yes it's brand new had everything re-fitted in August. we just run cold I think. at 20 we would be like icicles in here I think having wooden floors makes it colder

Haven't got central heating.

TheGhostofAmandaClarke · 17/10/2013 10:19

I think I'll turn it up in deep winter. Our house seems to stay v warm because the bloody tumble drier and oven are always on

ParsingFright · 17/10/2013 10:20

16 in the day (I'm at home all day), then 17 or 18 in the evening, when the bedroom radiator's on.

scarletforya · 17/10/2013 10:21

We don't have a thermostat. Halloween Angry

The radiators in the kitchen and living room are boiling, useless, we have a fire in the living room so don't need it there.

And around the rest of the house they are lukewarm. PAH!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 17/10/2013 10:22

Dh likes to set it at 16 degrees. He doesn't think it's particularly warm but we have an old drafty house and he doesn't like spending money on heating.
He drives me mad when he tells me to put another jumper on, I spend most of the winter in thermals under my clothes and at least 2 jumpers if I am sat down I'm mostly hidden under blankets.

One day I will learn how to program the central heating system Blush

HorryIsUpduffed · 17/10/2013 10:27

17-18, boosted to 19 if jumpers/thick socks etc aren't doing the job.

We have a fairly warm house though - double glazing, cavity wall insulation, etc - so we don't get draughts.

We have a new digital thermostat so it kicks in if the temperature falls below a certain temperature at any time and will bring it up to the set temperature, 15.5c in middle of night (thermostat is in warmest room, so the rest of the house is about 11c with no heating on), 18c in morning, 17c in day, 18c around 3.30pm (return from school time!) and then 18.5c when the first of us goes in the shower/bath, then back to nighttime temp of 15.5 at 9pm. Keep it low to keep the costs at what we consider to be an acceptable level, but if money was no object would probably have it on 20c during the day and 16c in the night.

Artandco · 17/10/2013 10:28

21 min. At 21 we still have winter clothes on and blanket on sofa so couldn't go any lower. It's higher in the bathroom as cold when showering otherwise

As a child we had no heating ( parents still don't) and I always felt ill 6 months of the year. I hate staying there now and avoid if possible as its just sooo cold.

MsVestibule · 17/10/2013 10:29

17.5 during the day, 19 in the evening. DH occasionally tries to sneak it ul to 19.5, but I keep a close eye on it Wink.

EeyoreIsh · 17/10/2013 10:31
  1. We're mean with our heating though. It'll go up in Feb once baby arrives.
EeyoreIsh · 17/10/2013 10:35

Our house doesn't hold the heat well at all. I'm reluctant to pay to have it on high when the heat leaks straight out. We are trying to resolve the leaky heat problem!

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 17/10/2013 10:37
  1. We turn it up if necessary.

We haven't got our heating on yet

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 17/10/2013 10:40

Our house is Victorian, original sash windows and stripped wooden floors. We're all just hot little souls ;D

Davsmum · 17/10/2013 10:41

choceyes - We are exactly the same! DP will wear a thin t -shirt in the freezing cold and never wants the heating on. He thinks I should just put on extra clothes because heat really affects him and its easier for me to wrap up than for him to stay cool!

I would have the heating on about 19 or 20 - DP - not at all,..seriously!

I was told once its best/more economical to leave it on all the time at 15 rather than to have it going on and off set at a higher temperature? I don't know if thats true or not.

Trinpy · 17/10/2013 10:41

20-21 but we don't turn it on until the temperature drops below 18 or one of us wants a shower.

pianodoodle · 17/10/2013 10:44

Ours is set to come on if it drops below 17.

I had it at 16 last week but have cranked it up a whole degree :)

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2013 10:44

I have big old draughty house and it needs to be 21 on a proper winter day otherwise the heating doesn't come on at all. It's 20 at the moment. It's not on during day at all.

jacks365 · 17/10/2013 10:51

Mine us set to 18 but upstairs will be warmer and if I turn it up the bedrooms are too hot to sleep. If I need more heat downstairs I light the fires instead.

cantspel · 17/10/2013 10:58

20 being put up to 22 in the evenings and on all the time but i do turn it down when i go to bed and my husband turns it back to 20 when he gets up at 6 in the morning.

Bubbles1066 · 17/10/2013 11:31

18C. We wear jumpers, vests, woolly socks etc. If I had more money I'd go to 20C but no hotter. I went round a friend's yesterday, there's was at 25C! I nearly melted, had to strip off. Awful.
