to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

I think I've got through more RY4 than anything else so far. It doesn't taste like any fag I've ever smoked but is kind of 'tobacco-esque' and sweetish but not too sweet. I was putting a splosh of RY6 in it until it ran out and that was very pleasant, although I didn't like RY6 on its own.

QueenStromba · 01/11/2013 11:00

I've already got a million flavours Cantabile. Try mixing them with vanilla or Irish cream (Baileys).

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 01/11/2013 11:02

Oh go on Queen, they're lovely, honest Wink

QueenStromba · 01/11/2013 11:35

:)

Cantabile · 01/11/2013 11:56

Just tried the Twisted Java again - it's lovely Queen.

Actually, not sure what I did, it was in a clearo, and I got a mouthful of juice! I shall probably die of an excess of coffee!

QueenStromba · 01/11/2013 12:17

If we're going to play that game then maybe I can inflict my rotten pineapple flavour on someone.

MaggieMcGill · 01/11/2013 20:58

My contribution will be butterscotch and chocolate banana altough they are not too bad when mixed together Smile

Well! I can honestly not believe I have managed a whole month without a fag give or take a day or two I can honestly say hand on heart this is the longest I have went in the last 25 years without one. In all previous attempts I'd do great through the week and then have a cheeky one just because it was the weekend Grin

Where has Katy went? A great big thank you to her for starting this thread and giving me the push up the bum that I needed Thanks and thanks to everyone else, I was a long time lurkerabout a year but you have all made me feel very welcome here Blush

nbee84 · 01/11/2013 21:48

Well done Maggie [round of applause emoticon] and to everyone else that has decided to give vaping a go after reading this thread.

My worst flavour has got to be Parma Violets! Smelt like the sweets but tasted vile.

ilovesooty · 01/11/2013 21:53

I thought Parma Violet was horrible too.

I liked banana though, and vanilla ice cream. I thought I liked eggnog at first but noooooo....

To my surprise, cotton candy was quite nice.

ilovesooty · 01/11/2013 21:54

Queen I liked pineapple!

I didn't like cherry but I mixed it with menthol. It ended up a bit like Cherry Tunes Grin

LyannaStark · 01/11/2013 22:01

Does anyone want almost 30 ml of cinnamon apple?

And I am fed up with the ego. Would should I buy instead?

ilovesooty · 01/11/2013 22:05

I think we should have a MN vaping meetup to trade flavours. Grin

LyannaStark · 01/11/2013 22:09

Yy. A vaping swap shop.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 01/11/2013 22:24

yes, count me in!

Lyanna does the cinnamon apple crack tanks? If not I'd love to give it a go! What's up with your ego? Is it the battery or the top end giving you problems?

I have a Kanger Protank (the first version) if anyone wants it. I discovered I don't like metal drip tips and it's not removable.

Flowers (smell them!) and congrats to everyone who's stopped smoking or cut down because of this thread. I had a fag yesterday just to fuck up stoptober. It was horrid. I don't want to do that again Smile

LyannaStark · 01/11/2013 23:15

It's the gasping I hate about my ego. Too much air.

I'm happy to send the cinnamon apple on.

DH has been talking to someone who has tried four expensive kits before giving up cigs because the delivery is the important thing.

MaggieMcGill · 02/11/2013 22:08

A wee update on my latest shopping Smile payday last week so I treated myself to some new liquid from joose juice in 0mg & 6mg. Big mistake! I should really have researched it first but the throat hit that I love and miss when i stop smokng actually comes from the nicotine so I ordered the same flavours in 18mg to mix. Much better although I think I'm meant to let them steep for a while before trying Confused

I also bought new coil heads for my dodgy GS-h2's. Oaft! Amazing! They actually work now. No need for cotton buds at all. I do feel a wee bit guilty that I'm now using them and I didn't pay for them. I'm a bit gutted that I threw one in the bin now whilst having a tantrum when it wouldn't work Grin

Waiting on a delivery from nbee84's Netherlands vendor for some of they clearos. They look like the one from my very first starter kit that I tried to clean and fooked up so v excited on them arriving.

Also ordered a few more batteries, one should arrive next week and the other two are coming from china but I really don't know what you do with the vv ones Blush can someone please explain this to me? This whole vaping malarkey is way to technical for my small brain. Even when buying new clearos I was faced with different resistance thingies. Oaft! head explodes

On a positive not I've still not or do not want a real cig. I wish I could say the same for vodka Grin

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

nbee84 · 02/11/2013 23:56

With the vv batteries - pop your clearo on with your chosen juice. Set the vv to the minimum voltage - usually 3.2, then up it bit by bit until you get a satisfying vape. If you up it too high you will get a slight burnt taste, so just turn it down a bit. I find that as the heads on my clearos get a bit used/gunged up a higher volt will get a better vape (more vapour and throat hit) I particularly find that Evods perform better at a higher voltage.

nbee84 · 03/11/2013 00:00

Your average ego battery is about 3.8 volts and a vv goes from 3.2 to 4.8

salsmum · 03/11/2013 01:13

I have not smoked for 2 weeks today!!! Grin and purchased a Nicolites e-cig starter pack and tips....not only am I finding it really hard to buy them anywhere else than from suppliers or Superdrug BUT the damn things spend more time charging via usb port than they do in my mouth Angry I 'smoke' them as I would a normal ciggy and only @ 10 times a day but I find I'm charging BOTH of the chargers forever and the tips seem to run out really regularly too it's so frustrating Angry has anyone else had this problem or have I just got a shit batch am I just unlucky?.

nbee84 · 03/11/2013 18:32

Nicolites are your problem salsmum They are over priced and battery life is dire.

They are a good starting point though and give you an idea of whether vaping is for you. My first buy was a disposable nicolite and though I knew straight away that it wouldn't be enough to get me off the cigarettes it gave me a feel for the potential of an ecig.

I recommend you buy one of these and some liquid of your choice. The higher the Mah the longer the battery will last - 650mah should see you through the day. As a 10 a day smoker you should be ok with 11mg or 14mg (nicotine content) liquid. I believe you can also use this liquid in your nicolite tips - I think you prise off the tip and drip the liquid onto the wadding inside.

salsmum · 03/11/2013 20:46

AAWWW thank you nbee84 you are so right about the battery life Angry I went for a drink with the girls on Friday...I went outside when they all had a cig and puffed on my e-cig.Smile x

Cantabile · 03/11/2013 22:27

Salsmum, fantastic!!!

I have smoked 11 cigarettes today. Two weeks ago I was on 40+ a day.

This morning, instead of having a cuppa and 2 cigs first thing, after 2 hours, I realised I hadn't smoked one. Not one!! Just vaped. Grin

SassySpice · 04/11/2013 08:56

Hi all, have tried to absorb all the comments and recommendations in this thread, but I can't make a decision what to buy. Would be really grateful for a lovely vaping 'expert' to give me simple guidance.

I currently smoke Silk Cut Silver, around 15 a day
these are : 1mg tar : 0.1mg nicotine : 1mg carb/monox.

I really can't work out which of the vaping cigs would be suitable for me. Need a mumsnet mentor to just tell me what I need! I'd really like to place an order for something today or as soon as poss Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/11/2013 11:08

Lyanna, Flowers for the cinnamon apple. It sounds like a clearomiser problem you're having - what sort are you using?

Sassy, I'm not an 'expert' but I've done a month Grin

If I were you I'd get one (or preferably two) of the kits in nbee's link above and a selection of 18mg liquids.

Joose Juice are very cheap and the flavours I've tried have been great, especially the gingerbread. They're better if they're left to steep for a week or so though, so you might also want to order some Hangsen or Dekang liquid - this is made in China so by the time it gets to you it's ready to use. Premier E-cigs do a good selection of cheap Hangsen flavours.

Cantabile, that's brilliant, well done! Have you worked out how many you haven't smoked?

salsmum, fantastic! I think I saw Nicolites in Sainsbo's the other day - but they were with the medicines, not behind the fag counter Confused Hmm

nbee, I've found my vv useful for using my home-built coil that came out at 2.8 ohms Grin

maggie, I'm pleased you got your gs-h2's to work. I solved the gurgling on my gs-h5 - one of the flavour wicks had slipped on one side and was wicking the liquid straight down under the coil.

Well done everybody!

KellyElly · 04/11/2013 11:58

Just marking my place. Haven't got time to read the whole thread at the moment but an really interested in these. Tried one today at work and it tasted nice. Need to kick this filthy expensive habit!
