to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

I've had the same problem with the threads of cheapy egos but they still work well with CE4 type clearos because they have a skirt type thing that goes over the top of the battery and helps hold them in place. I've not had any problem with ones from Liberty Flights - they're a fair bit more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for.

QueenStromba · 22/10/2013 14:00

Just remembered that I came on here to share this. More knee-jerk reactions of people thinking we shouldn't be able to vape indoors without giving any decent reason why not. If you make it to the last paragraph there's yet another reason to love Michel Roux Jnr though :)

awaywego1 · 22/10/2013 15:01

Thanks olgaga-unfortunately it's not screwing into the charger properly either and I've tried a couple of different clearos-so it's defo the battery.

Dobbiesmum · 22/10/2013 16:17

am currently charging my e cig, one more proper one left and then that's it, no more!! might just get it out of the way and start when its fully charged...
have got menthol juice to start with but will check out the other flavours later in the week.
I am very reasonably excited about saving much needed money Grin

Cantabile · 22/10/2013 17:35

It's been about 10 days since I started using my Ego. At first I cut my consumption of cigarettes down to about 1/3 my usual rate, but it seems to be creeping up Blush. I reckon it's about 1/2. I'm not beating myself up about it - that's the most definite way to ensure I leap back onto smoking completely!

Still really enjoying my baccy+apple flavour. Everyone who has a go says "Oh my word! That's delicious!" so I am being slightly evangelical about it and know at least two people are taking up vaping because of it.

How often would you say the Ego C should be cleaned? (Embarrassed to admit I haven't at all.)

MaggieMcGill · 22/10/2013 18:44

Good luck Dobbiesmum!

Cantabile, I'm on day 20. Will be three whole weeks tomorrow since I've had a proper cig but I had a slip up one day when I was out drinking. You're right. No point in beating yourself up. What matters is the ones you've not smoked.

My new liquid was waiting for me coming home tonight, I've bought 2 bottles of 11mg and 3 of 6 mg. Trying out Strawberry mint (11mg). It's quite nice Smile

olgaga · 22/10/2013 18:58

away that's really unusual IME - unless it's been dropped on a hard floor or something?

If there's no compatibility issue and the battery hasn't performed I would contacted online sellers or taken them back and got replacements no problem. I think they are happy to accept that production quality can be variable!

The trick is to ALWAYS have spare kit...Wink

MaggieMcGill · 22/10/2013 19:12

I bought a new starter kit and it arrived last Thursday and worked fine. I charged the battery on Sat night and then nothing, the blue light just stopped going on. I can hear something moving about inside it. I've not dropped it and the light still changes to red when i plug it into the charger. I contacted the seller on Ebay and he's sending me a replacement. No questions asked. I do wish it would hurry up though because it's a pain only having the one battery.

awaywego1 · 23/10/2013 14:00

Olgaga-I'm wondering if it's because I have been breaking the charging rules and overcharging it. New battery has just arrived though-phew!

MaggieMcGill · 23/10/2013 16:23

Yay! My replacement battery arrived today too Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/10/2013 19:17

Yay, good luck Dobbie Smile

Maggie and away, glad your batteries have turned up. Quite early in this thread I posted a link to which shop-bought cig-alikes have a 510 thread - could be useful in an emergency, I'll see if I can find it again. I'm trying to get DH to understand that there's no point in having a spare battery if he's going to leave it at home and then smoke at work because his battery is charging.

I've done 3 weeks without smoking Grin I haven't smoked 315 fags and have saved £36.08 even though I've spent £162.91

Cantabile you're doing really well, you've probably beaten me on fags not smoked Flowers

production quality can be variable!
Can't it just! Grin Having had really good luck with the GS-H2's I ordered the bigger version, the GS-H5 and I've got a really leaky one. I've put extra wick in it which hasn't worked, next I'm going to try turning the rubber seal thingy upside down or maybe add an extra one. It seems to be generally accepted that nothing can be relied upon to work straight from the box. I've been a bit happier about this once I realised we are using bleeding-edge technology - the first kanger protank wasn't invented until this year - but I haven't dared use my proper protank yet because I know if it leaks I will cry.

I've put an order in with FastTech! Just for the shits, I've ordered some of the dekang chinese names that I have no clue what they are (along with some stuff I think I'll like). I've since read that they are probably all local chinese cigarette flavours, but we'll see, there might be something marvellous in there.

Happy vaping everyone!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/10/2013 19:24

link to cig-alikes and their thread fittings - I think things have probably moved on a bit since this thread. I wouldn't be surprised if everything was compatible now except e-lites.

I have vapourlites and they have a 510 thread too.

MaggieMcGill · 23/10/2013 21:33

Hahaha! Plenty, what have you been buying? Grin I reckon I've spent about £60 but I've saved £159.38 so I should be £100 richer Confused 425 fags not smoked minus about ten from my blip

I bought myself another battery today, just another cheapo one, pay day's not till next week Grin so I'm hoping that will be me sorted for a wee while now.

My sky cig battery is a 510 thread, looks a bit weird when it's screwed into a clearo though Smile

Not long to go now till we reach the end of Stoptober. I feel fairly confident now that I have been converted to vaping and it's all thanks to this thread Thanks

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/10/2013 08:10

Plenty, what have you been buying?

Here goes Blush ...

3 x CE4s - £9.99
5 x 10ml liquids - £11.99
Apollo eGo-VV 1200mah passthrough - £25.95
1 x 10ml liquid - £4.95
5 x really shit CE4s - £5.99
5 x GS-H2 - £9.78
6 x 10ml and 3 x 30ml liquids - £33.25
Kanger Protank kit - £19.99
GS-H5 - £4.89

9 x 10ml liquids - £10.98
IGO-L stainless steel RDA - £5.03
3 x 10ml liquids - £4.47

I think I should be ok for a while now Grin

Not all the liquids and clearos are for me - DH is vaping too. If I add what he's saved (minus his batteries) it probably looks a lot better because he's on Marlboro but he's still smoking 2 a day and I can't work the sums out.

MaggieMcGill · 24/10/2013 13:10

Wow! You have been busy Grin

Can I ask where you got the 9 liquids at £10.98 and what you think of them? I'm wanting to try some low or 0 nicotine but with a higher PG. Going by previous attempts to stop I think it's the throat hit I miss more than the actual nicotine.

mrseffington · 24/10/2013 17:13

Another thanks to this thread from a nearly complete convert. I started vaping about a month ago and whilst enjoying it, didn't really fancy the flavoured liquids, preferring to stay with the tobacco ones but just couldn't quite quit the real fags even when they tasted pretty grim.

After reading this I went to a fab wee shop near work and tried a gazillion flavours and can now see (even more) what the 'fuss' is about. I have Coffee which is beyootiful and which I haven't stopped puffing on since i got it. I also have butterscotch and cafe brasiliano both of which I can wait to get going on.

So, a month ago I was a 40 a day smoker, I'm down to about 10 a day already. I reckon that's going to go to zero pretty quickly.

Woop and doop and thank you very very much! :)))))))

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/10/2013 18:10

The cheap liquids are from FastTech Maggie. They're shipping direct from China, so they won't get here for a while yet. They're just Dekang though, so I'm assuming they'll be ok but nothing special.

Beckamaw Thanks your coffee e liquids arrived today safely. In the spirit of 'passing it forward', I have 30ml of Hangsen RY4 12mg if anyone would like it. I'm finding the 12mg liquids a little too low and I think by the time I get down to that level I'll have moved away from tobacco flavours.

mrseffington, well done, that's brilliant! What brand is the coffee liquid you got?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/10/2013 18:21

OK, so I just tried the Halo Twisted Java ... bleeeuuuurrrggghhh!! It's got fucking peppermint in it Halloween ShockHalloween AngryHalloween EnvyHalloween Shock

Coffee. With peppermint. What sick twisted fuck thought that up! Halloween Confused It tasted like nasty nasty cough medicine. I had to go and wash my mouth out and am now vaping vanilla like mad but can still taste it

Unless DH takes a shine to it (I'll let you know tomorrow), I am now offering 30ml RY4 12mg and almost 30ml Twisted Java 24mg Grin

Beckamaw · 24/10/2013 18:28

Plenty, I think they are both fucking VILE!! Smile Sorry for inflicting that vileness upon you. Is t'other one vapeable?

I'm on Shamrock mint-choc today. It's ok.
Any one else find vanilla liquids taste soapy?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/10/2013 18:33

I am too scared haven't tried it yet. I'm going to leave it until tomorrow to let the taste of the java completely go.

MaggieMcGill · 24/10/2013 21:44

Well done mreseffington! They do get quite addictive. I have trouble putting mine down too.

I've just put another extra rubber seal thingy onto my gurgling GS-h2's and I've now got two that work a treat. Thanks for the link above Thanks

MaggieMcGill · 24/10/2013 21:47

Sorry, I meant to also ask what Dekang is? I've tried googling but I'm none the wiser.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/10/2013 18:32

Yay, glad you've got some of your clearos working again.

Dekang is like Hangsen - it's just a brand name for mass-produced liquid.

MaggieMcGill · 26/10/2013 20:40

Ah! Ok. So far I've only bought liquid from Vaping Vision and Paradise Vape. Is that Dekang or Hangsen? We have a small shop her selling stuff but the don't have much of the lower nicotine liquids and I'm not sure if they do the variable pg/vg liquids. It doesn't look like it from their website.

So, what's everyone smoking vaping at the moment? I've just tried my new Piña Colada. Hmm! Not sure about that one but I also have mint strawberry mixed with bubblegum and chocolate banana mixed with butterscotch on the go. I'm getting a better throat hit from my mint strawberry hit.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 26/10/2013 22:29

Vaping Vision is Hangsen - that's what I'm mostly using at the moment. Paradise Vape I'm not sure, I think they might mix their own - I have two 3ml samples they sent free with the £8.50 kits (pomegranate and bitter-sweet chocolate) but they're low and zero nicotine and I haven't fancied them. They smell really soapy so I'm leaving them for a while.

I've got one clearo for tobacco flavours - currently a mix of RY4 and RY6 and one clearo for some sort of 'dessert mix' - currently vanilla + hazelnut + rum + espresso.

I have some 10ml samples from joose juice which I'm trying to leave to steep but the apple pie and gingerbread flavours are calling to me. They're the cheapest I've found outside of ordering from china.
