to feel positively evangelical about electronic cigarettes?

I was reading the AIBU thread about the husband vaping in the house with a newborn. I was struck by the passionate testimonials from former smokers, saying they couldn't have done it without e-cigs. I had tried a puff one of those things that look like a cigarette and was underwhelmed. But I didn't know about the more advanced set ups where you can fill them up with your flavour of choice. Anyway, I was intrigued. I smoked a pack a day for 25 years, and never quit more than a few months at a time, no matter which methods I tried.

nb84 encouraged me to give it a try and told me what to buy to get started.

I ordered a starter kit that night. It arrived the next day and I fell in love. I have three of them, now (one always charging, one near to hand, and one in my purse ready to go) and eight different flavours of the juice.

I don't want to smoke cigarettes any more. I like this better. It tastes really good. It feels good. And it doesn't stink. My hands, clothing, and breath don't reek anymore. I don't have to keep going outside. I don't have to feel like a smelly pariah. My husband can't smell it even when I'm sitting right next to him.

And I don't have to try and not think about the fact that my mother died of cancer after spending her last decade debilitated by emphysema.

And instead of paying £8 a day for fags, I can buy a week's worth of juice for £10. The hardware was less than £20 to get started and will require only £10 a month going forward. Of course, I can spend more. Many people geek out on it as a hobby because the gadgets are fun and constantly improving.

I'm not worried about putting on weight like people usually do when giving up the cancer sticks. In fact, I snack less. I no longer crave sweets. I would normally nibble all day, especially Haribo sweets. I don't want them anymore because I am tasting a bunch of sweet flavours all day long.

I'm so happy that I want to tell everyone - every smoker and everyone who loves a smoker - about it. Grin

I wouldn't vape at meetings or meals. Vaping on work premises is banned anyway.

Like Plenty I would ask before vaping in any indoor venue socially. It's rude to assume it's ok, imo.

MaggieMcGill · 20/10/2013 10:53

Plenty, my neighbour stopped about 4 months ago, originally with champix but they made her sick. She was buying disposable ecig s at £7 a time. She's loving the ego and has just bought the 5 pick n mix liquids, I couldn't ask for it back.

I'm curious to know what I'm doing wrong with the GS-h2's too. Out of the pack of 5 I've managed to get one that works. It needs the occasional cotton bud stuck down it but apart from that it works ok and gives a nice vape. The others just flood straight away. I don't think I'm puffing to hard, more of a long steady suck Smile

I'm happy to say that I've survived the weekend without a real fag. Yesterday, we were at a funeral and I just stuck to my sky cig. I was in a car with 4 smokers. When we stopped at the crematorium they all lit up. I got out the car because I didn't want my new jacket stinking of smoke Grin when we went back for the tea I was aware of how strong they all smelt after coming back in from having a fag. Yeah! My nose has started working again Grin

anyway else noticed change in bowel habits,
I know smoking encourages bowel movements and perhaps I am so used to smoking. but this is quite weird, think after about 6 weeks there is a regular pattern but it has taken 6 weeks

Beckamaw · 20/10/2013 23:17

Horrid Halo liquids being sent to Plenty tomorrow! May you really lurve them! Smile

Beckamaw · 20/10/2013 23:21

Plenty, do you like mint, but not menthol?
Kringle's Curse is gorgeousness. No tobacco tones - just clean bright mintiness. Never met anyone who tried it and didn't like it.
The other menthols are just different in throat hit/ intensity. They do a menthol/apple combo which is interesting too. Midnight Apple is the name, I think.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 07:58

Flowers Beckamaw Smile

I don't know about mint or menthol. I've never liked menthol fags and wonder if vaping menthol would be a bit toothpastey. I don't generally like mints or chewing gum although I like those little sugar free mints (the ones that give you the shits if you eat too many).

I don't like mint tea but I do like mint on potatoes and mint sauce - not sure I'd want to vape it though.

I suppose I should just get some and try it really Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 08:33

Maggie it sounds like your coil heads maybe don't have enough wick in or are fitting loosely somewhere. You could try taking one to bits and adding an extra wick, then make sure everything is fitting together tightly.

There's a good tutorial here

Well done for not smoking all weekend! Smile

waikikamookau · 21/10/2013 15:24

anyone buy their own wicks and rebuild their electornic vaporiers?

QueenStromba · 21/10/2013 18:12

I'm planning to do it myself when I have more time. You need more than just wicks though. You also need resistance wire, fine copper wire and a multimeter. Given how cheap spare atomiser heads are I think this is probably one for the major enthusiasts/electronics buffs/really skint people/people with lots of time on their hands.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 18:13

I'm intending to waiki. I've got some wick and wire and some spare heads. The multimeter I have is giving some haywire readings though so either it needs new batteries or I need a lesson in how to use it properly (probably both Grin). So far the bravest thing I've done is dry burning and adding a bit of extra wick to stop gurgling.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 18:14

What's the copper wire for, Queen? I don't have any of that.

stillenacht · 21/10/2013 18:17

Ok you've lost me now Grin

waikikamookau · 21/10/2013 18:22

gosh it sounds complicated

QueenStromba · 21/10/2013 19:56

Well I looked up an online guide for for rebuilding the vivi nova atomisers which are pretty much identical to the CE4 ones and you need the copper wire to provide an electrical connection with the inside and outside of the atomiser and complete the circuit.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 21:03

Oh ok it must be a top coil thing. It hasn't featured in any of the tutorials I've found for bottom coils. It makes sense though, with a top coil, your resistor is further away from the rest of your circuit and you wouldn't want resistor wire all the way down or it would come out too high.

For all those who are a bit bamboozled, let me share the best gadget I have found so far. It's very very low-tech and understandable and whatever kit you are using, it will make your life easier, unless you already discovered it Grin

AnaisHellWitch · 21/10/2013 21:05

My Ego CE4 arrived this morning and it is fab. Nothing like my JAC cig-alike. Thank you so much for this thread Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 21:17

Yay! Welcome to the thread, Anais Smile

How many people has this thread helped now? I've lost track.

stillenacht · 21/10/2013 21:26

MeSmile day 19 now I think.. Still vaping on my apple caramel pie. The first juice I bought and with the Ego ce4 i bought. Bought other flavours but this one is def my favouriteSmile

Have about 6 clearos to swap around but original still seems fine. What is the life of a clearo?(or is it carto... I get confused!)

AnaisHellWitch · 21/10/2013 21:28

Thank you Plenty. I may be here some time Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/10/2013 21:34

ce4 is a clearo. Lifespan is anything between 1 day and 1 month from what I can gather. They last longer if you clean them occasionally.

Congrats on 19 days, I'm 19 days too Grin

I've settled down to:

mornings - tobacco (RY4 with a splosh of RY6)
afternoons - coffee with a splosh of hazelnut
evenings - vanilla, except I've just run out of 18mg. I have 12mg but it's not really doing it - I think it was a bit of an optimistic purchase.

ophelia275 · 21/10/2013 22:05

I came across Vapourlites in my local pharmacy but they couldn't tell me whether the zero percent nicotine cigarettes have trace nicotine or are completely nicotine/tar/tobacco free. Does anyone know if zero nicotine really are zero?

QueenStromba · 21/10/2013 22:26

Zero nicotine would be zero nicotine - it's not like decaf coffee where they take the caffeine out. With e-cigs you have to put the nicotine in.

awaywego1 · 22/10/2013 10:57

Ooh I'm having a bit of a crisis! My ego battery seems to be broken-it won't allow me to screw my clearos on properly-like the thread has gone on the screw bit. Is this a problem other people have had? am not massively impressed as I've only have it 2 weeks and don't have a spare yet.

stillenacht · 22/10/2013 11:02

Snap bit of a crisis here too. My battery feels really really hot and its gurgling like mad and not producing a lot of vapour. Lucky for me I have two Elites too. Argh!

olgaga · 22/10/2013 12:50

away if the battery is still charging ok it may be the clearo.

still clean it then try gently work around the connector inside the battery levering it up with the fat end of a needle. Sometimes they get slightly depressed with use (don't we all). If it's quite deep set, gently pull with tweezers.

I couldn't link on my phone when I left my (much earlier) comment so these are what I use and why:

Purevape I get my egos and clearos from them because they do local market stalls and I can pick up supplies easily - and they're always friendly and helpful. You can also order online. I also like their "Nutty Tobacco" liquid, very strong and satisfying with a hint of sweet.

JAC Vapour - I like their PCCs and auto batteries with cartomisers, they're reliable and ideal if you need something discreet. Their website has lots of good information from the user reviews.

eLiquid4u They often have good offers on and their "Gold" label eliquid is the best I've tried if you want a good strong throat hit. You can get 6 34ml/36mg bottles for the price of 4. I quite like to mix a bit of chocolate/coffee flavour in with it, tastes like a Cafe Creme cigarillo!
