We broke the cat's bowl recently so DCat has been eating out of one of ds' melamine bowls. Today I bought a new cat bowl so I rinsed ds' bowl and was going to put it in the dishwasher and run the hottest cycle.

DH has had a squeamish meltdown and thinks we should just throw it away. He can't see how it won't still have "cat germs". I even offered to sterilise it in the old steriliser we haven't yet put away [slacker emoticon].

Dh insists I get mn advice. He is convinced you will all agree with him. I, of course, think you are all more rational Grin

So, who IBU?

He's being mental.

The bowl is fine.

treaclesoda · 08/09/2013 17:46

I'm with your DH.

strawberrypenguin · 08/09/2013 17:47

Dishwasher - it will be fine Grin

whois · 08/09/2013 17:48

Dishwasher and it will be OK!

CMOTDibbler · 08/09/2013 17:48

the bowl is fine

Salmotrutta · 08/09/2013 17:49

I'm sort of with your DH.

Rationally, I know the dishwasher will kill any germs, but deep down it just seems wrong Grin

Mabelface · 08/09/2013 17:49

Dishwasher and all is fine.

MammaTJ · 08/09/2013 17:49

I would throw it away, but then I would only allow an animal to eat off something that was going to be theirs, or that I was prepapred to bin!

gymboywalton · 08/09/2013 17:49

i know it's irrational-but i wouldn't want my child to eat from the same bowl the cathad either. i'm withyour dh

DuchessFanny · 08/09/2013 17:53

I know I'm being irrational but I'm with your DH on this .... Eewwww !

BlingLoving · 08/09/2013 17:54

Thank you allGrin even those of you who would throw it away mostly admit its an irrational response. I win! Wink

I agree with your dh, I know it would be clean but I couldn't use a bowl an animal had eaten out of

MrsMongoose · 08/09/2013 17:56

DH is being very precious.

The only time I've ever thrown a pet-used this away is when I had to rush my diseased, dying guinea pig to the vet in a lunchbox. Guinea pig died on route. I binned the lunchbox.

A bit of cat noms is nothing.

SockQueen · 08/09/2013 17:58

It will be fine. He is being crazily paranoid.

KatyMac · 08/09/2013 18:02

My vets says cats are more at risk from people germs than people are from cat germs

BrokenSunglasses · 08/09/2013 18:04

I'm with your DH.

I wouldn't eat out of my dogs ceramic bowl even if I had scrubbed it in boiling water and put it through ten dishwasher cycles. It's icky.

FGS, I used to crawl round the floor and eat bonio dog biscuits from his bowl , didn't do me any harm!

Tell him to get a grip - what about stuff that's been used with raw meat or raw egg? does all that get chucked too?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 08/09/2013 18:08

I know it's irrational too but I wouldn't eat out of the cat bowl. Not just because of the cat spit, but because it has had cat food in it. Vile stuff.

Jan49 · 08/09/2013 18:22

I agree with your DH. I wouldn't use a bowl for a pet and then use it for a human again no matter how much I'd washed it.

TheSlug · 08/09/2013 18:24

I'm with your husband. I'd never be able to eat from that bowl or use it for a child's food again.

Trills · 08/09/2013 18:27

It has been washed. It will be fine.

AmberLeaf · 08/09/2013 18:28

Im with your DH.

FortyFacedFuckers · 08/09/2013 18:29

I agree with your DH sorry Grin

TeaLadyExtraordinaire · 08/09/2013 18:31

My God there are some paranoid people on MN !!

Put it in the dishwasher, it will be fine.
