The kids and I have just got back from a weekend at my parents.

My very kind elderly next door neighbour fed my cat for me (he and his wife always do this for me while I am away) since Friday eve.

When we arrived home the cat was at the door to great us (bit odd in itself as she normally doesn't speak to us for days if we leave her) and my neighbour was upstairs in my sons attic room .

I think he does play with the cat for a bit as they are quite lonely and don't have a lot to do but AIBU to think this is a bit irregular?

I didn't say anything and just thanked him and took the keys back - he did look a bit embarrassed and now I am sat here feeling a bit icky .

I cleaned up my mates kitchen whilst she was away (very bored whilst the dc played in their garden as I hadn't taken a book with me and the cat wasn't in a cuddly mood) but I would never dream to venture out of the rooms that I would normally frequent when I'm invited around! Did mean that I raked around her cupboards looking for cleaning materials though...

Was he using the toilet?

If not then it's weird.

I'm a local cat feeder and I'd never go into bedrooms. It's one of those things you just don't do.

There is a toilet up there but there is one on the floor below and he literally lives next door....

Creepy. I would ask someone else next time.

I think he may have just gone for a wander and a look about.
My neighbour has a cup of tea at mine, watches the telly and cuddles the cat (she loves him !)when he comes in to feed her. He enjoys the respite from a houseful of GC who are always at his house.
I wouldnt fret about it, TBH.

I look after some cats, I wouldn't go in to any room that I didn't need to in order to care for the cats, it is just weird to be in your son's bedroom. Did he explain why he was there?

I think it's weird. If he was having a nosy he should have just said something like 'just wanted to see how you had converted your attic'. Then again older men just don't think. I would find a local lady who looks after cats and other animals for local people and just pay. Or get a friend to do it. No one wants someone nosing around their house.

Probably just curiousity,id be pleased to have someone look after the pets.Sure he didnt mean any harm.Mightve been wondering what todays youth are in to

I thought it was normal to have a sneaky look in all the rooms when feeding the neighbour's cat while they are away.

When I feed the cats/fishes/guinea pigs for my neighbour, that's all I do ! I never stay longer that I need to !

I think maybe I feel a bit weird as there was an "incident" once in their kitchen when he told me I was "looking very pretty today" a d he kind of cornered me to the point where I felt really uncomfortable and made my excuses and practically ran out - but I didn't know if I was being a bit daft... He's in his 80s.

Perhaps that's where cat was when he let himself in? Whenever I've looked after cats I've always "accident hunted" as I know that it can unsettle some cats when their owners go away. I never snoop but just like to make sure that they are ok and so I know I've seen them. And I like to make sure people don't come back to nasty surprises,

He may have just been having a bit of a nose around. Perhaps he went in your DS's room to have a bit of a reminisce / nostalgic trip down memory lane surrounded by children's toys. Men never really grow up you know. Very unlikely to be anything sinister.
I often find myself doing similar things, such as looking (staring?) too long at a pretty little girl - just remembering when my 2 DDs were the same age. Nothing sinister going on and it would be a terrible world to live in if people couldn't enjoy such simple and harmless pleasures.

It probably was harmless and most people do do it - the bit that concerned me is that he wasn't embarrassed or made an excuse. Put that together with the other small incident and just avoid. I mean what's the point in running a risk, no big scene just quietly stop letting him look after the cats and stop having to worry.

I would go through that room with a fine toothed comb.

Sounds dodgy to me but I do have a suspicious mind.
