To think that there is either a serial killer or a ghost in my house?

My DP went to work this morning via the front door. He locked it from the outside as he left. I was fast asleep. When I woke up several hours later I went to leave by the front door and it was bolted from the inside! I checked the back door and this too was locked from the inside!

I am MAJORLY freaking out and have just made DP tape up the attic door.

Please tell me I ABU and that there is a logical explanation!

To freak me out? It is possible the ghost of a serial killer would be a little sadistic and enjoy my torment?

I have never sleep walked before, but that's my favourite and least disturbing explanation. It was bolted really tightly though and that's not my usual bolting technique?!

Mike - I left the house immediately, bought a paper from the shop and sat on the church wall waiting for DP to return from work.

I am back in now after a thorough check.

My DP is not a ghost. You have to be right Expat -there MUST be a logical explanation.

Wondering my DM said the same, yet he is adamant that he did not exit via a window.

I thought about gaslighting, but HOW would he do that? He is definitely mortal.

No DCs. No one else was in the house.

Dance - no. House is a 3 bed, Victorian mid-terrace. Front door and back door are the only exits.

Well it won't be a ghost because there is no such thing. The most likely explanation is someone playing a prank on you.

You are being unreasonable, and there is a logical explanation.

Until you work this out, I would recommend checking all cupboard and behind all doors, and arranging an exorcism.

YANBU. However, there are worse things to have than a security conscious ghost. Apparently ghosts respond quite well to verbal instructions - as in 'please stop piling up the furniture on the dining table, it's very inconvenient' or 'please stop stomping up and down the stairs, you're keeping the DC awake.'

Have you thought about trying 'thanks for locking the doors, that's very thoughtful. Could you perhaps have a go at loading the dishwasher/doing the ironing/cleaning the bathroom?

You never know it might work! Oh and I'm a believer. One woo experience too many to not. But nothing has ever sorted out my housework for me!

Solid - I was in the house alone. It is impossible that this is a prank.

Dance - do you have a contact number for J Creek? Will he have to bring Sheridan Smith? - I'm not keen on her.

Boob - have checked all nooks and crannies (even to the extent of removing the bath panel). I will try to see the vicar tomorrow and ask him about an exorcism.

Yoni - I don't post very regularly, but I am no troll. This is completely genuine.

Mary - I will try to persuade the security conscience ghost to go about his/her business without leaving signs of supernatural activity.

Toryalane - what kind of bolt is it?
Do you lock it with a key or is it like a sliding bolt that doesnt need a key?
