To think that there is either a serial killer or a ghost in my house?

My DP went to work this morning via the front door. He locked it from the outside as he left. I was fast asleep. When I woke up several hours later I went to leave by the front door and it was bolted from the inside! I checked the back door and this too was locked from the inside!

I am MAJORLY freaking out and have just made DP tape up the attic door.

Please tell me I ABU and that there is a logical explanation!

Firstly please don't worry it can't be a murderer as you were in the house safe for some time. Most logical explanation is you did it without realising. Are there any pets, children. Was the window open do you remember that might make a bigger slam re sliding bolt. Did dp have any magnets on him when, saving. Is he a tease, is anyone else.

oohdaddypig · 26/07/2013 22:41

Not - you are evul... Here is me offering logic....

OP dont listen to her.

TheYoniWayIsUp · 26/07/2013 22:42

OP, I wasn't really accusing you of being a troll! Just saying that this has spooked me out so I'm going to tell myself that's the answer! Grin

I think the idea that you've absent-mindedly bolted it is the best theory.

londonrach · 26/07/2013 22:43

Great NOT now you got me looking in my cupboards.......

toryalane · 26/07/2013 22:46

Right, for the sake of my sanity I am going with the "half-pissed sleep bolting" theory.

Notanymore - that is NOT helpful!

Thank you all. I will update if anything else freaky happens. If it is serial killer stuff, I am in Greater Manchester - watch out for me in the news!

Paranormal Activity is on channel 3 right now

not helpful

apostropheuse · 26/07/2013 22:48

OP I really want to know what your normal bolting method is. You've piqued my interest there!

londonrach · 26/07/2013 22:49

Hope you sleep well tory. I think you bolted the car without realising.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 26/07/2013 22:50

Either you did it in a sleepy auto-pilot trance.

Or - your dh's messing with your head, and after shutting the door, pulled an ultra-strong magnet along the bolt from the outside - voila.

londonrach · 26/07/2013 22:51

Door not car :-)

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 26/07/2013 22:51

Oh and I saw Luther as well - this would terrify me!

toryalane · 26/07/2013 23:01

My Dp is far too laid back for this. He wouldn't even think of it. And more to the point, I have been properly freaked by this, he isn't cruel, he'd have come clean.

I am ignoring any references to Luther/Paranormal Activity 3!

I reckon your dP has played a trick on you and for whatever reason is not willing to admit it.
If you have no form for sleep walking it is unlikely to be attributable to this.
I think I would play a similar mind game back on dP. Don't admit to it. It will let him know you are onto him.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 26/07/2013 23:03

And it really, truly won't be a ghost. It is the living you need to be suspicious of.

BiscuitDunker · 26/07/2013 23:03

Half-pissed autopilot and half blind so not even noticing the bank card does sound plausable...

Can't honestly say that locking/bolting a door would be anywhere near my train of thought in a booze fogged sleepy state...half the time I don't even remember to turn the kettle on when I wake up because I'm so tired and I don't drink and then I wonder why my tea is cold when I take a sip

QuintessentiallyOhDear · 27/07/2013 00:10

You must NEVER read any Mo Hayder.

notanyanymore · 27/07/2013 00:18

I laughed something silly when my mum told me this, but have had to check every inch of the house before bed ever since Blush
Its not ninja's tho op! (I've never found one in all my years of looking) it was hung over fever with symptomatic forgetfulness Smile

YouTheCat · 27/07/2013 00:20

Yep half blind drunk bolting the door sounds the most feasible explanation.

toryalane · 27/07/2013 00:33

Right, have left the bolt unlocked, loft is taped up and I haven't had any alcohol! I will update tomorrow.

DeepPurple · 27/07/2013 00:36

Do you answer the door to the postie then go back to bed? You could have bolted it then gone back to bed forgetting about it?

toryalane · 27/07/2013 00:43

No, no postie. I have an indoor cat, so would have come round sufficiently enough to remember because I'd have made sure she couldn't get out.

TheYoniWayIsUp · 27/07/2013 00:57

I have it. Your DH has been sacked, and instead of going to work he drives the car around the corner and hides it, and then lets himself back in and hides somewhere in the house, before sneaking back out later and 'coming home'. Today, due to your drunken stupor he relaxed a little, and absent-mindedly bolted the door. He can't confess without giving himself away.
(If that's true, can I share the £250 when you sell your story to Take a Break magazine?)

notanyanymore · 27/07/2013 01:00

There will be a very reasonable explanation, I was totally perplexed the other week when a bar of chocolate and a bottle of coke appeared in the kitchen but the house was seemingly locked fromthe inside. Turned out dp had left them there as some sort of appology for our earlier argument and knobbed off to the pub with our weird neighbour to feel sorry for himself and our door locks are just shoddy.
OP its not a ninja! Or a ghost! (Unless its a homunculus...) Hmm
I

GingerBlondecat · 27/07/2013 01:56

ehh, I've done a few odd things half asleep/half awake and have no memory of.

I'm of the thought.
You saw the card. or heard hubs drop it through the post slot, got up, saw the card, auto bolted the door and forgot the card.
How did you know hehad/was posting the card through the slot?

Did he yell-tell you through the door?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2013 02:06

No help but you need Derek Acorah , Sam (his guide) and the "little boy, light of step" skipping about.

Stuff the bolt, I so would do Derek Acorah Blush
