to think looking attractive will help me get the job?

interview tomorrow and DP thinks I should wear my black primark suit. It's ill fitting but I don't have much money and was the best i could afford. My other option is this dress www.amychildsofficial.co.uk/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=94&product_id=298 . DP says that it's better to play it safe in white shirt & black suit rather than feel stupid.

I think looking good in the dress is much better than the frumpy suit! His office is full of techy people. I don't think he understands women do wear more fashionable things to offices nowdays. Any opinions? I know it's not right, but I do think that flattering my figure and looking 'pretty' will help with my confidence if nothing else!

I prefer the photo with the dress. Good luck for the interview!

flipchart · 18/06/2013 22:30

I would give the trouser suit to the charity shop tbh.
It does nothing for you.

moustachio · 18/06/2013 22:31

eyes are watering with laughter at the anti-suit comments! didn't realize it was THAT bad! haha

Get some cheap black trousers M&S, 15 quid, job done and a nice top to go with, if you want an alternative. Total cost would be 40 quid, max. Assuming you have respectable black shoes already Grin

howdoIdealwiththisone · 18/06/2013 22:36

Definitely the dress. I'm a lawyer (so conservative profession) and I would wear that dress as long as the fabric isn't too stretchy.

AnyFucker · 18/06/2013 22:36

the suit is really bad, sorry Grin

do you need any dusters ?

catgirl1976 · 18/06/2013 22:37

I work in a formal, conventional office

That dress would be fine for an interview (though if you have a chest like Amys, maybe leave the push-up bra at home)

Standard office wear IMO

catgirl1976 · 18/06/2013 22:39

Have just looked on your profile - the dress looks lovely on you and is much smarter than the suit

Good luck with your interview!

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 18/06/2013 22:41

The suit might look ok if you wore it with the jacket unbuttoned with a plain brightly coloured top underneath. But the collar on the white shirt just looks messy and the jacket doesn't seem to fit properly.
Definitely go for the dress. It looks professional and you will feel much more comfortable.
If you are the kind of person who flushes at the neck when you are nervous then I would suggest a scarf to detract from that.
Good luck!

howdoIdealwiththisone · 18/06/2013 22:42

Get the suit out to please DH, put it carefully on the kitchen work top and then accidentally knock a bottle of bleach onto it.

Decision made

QuintessentialOldDear · 18/06/2013 22:46

I am going to be the odd one out. Confused

Can you try the suit with a different shirt (the shirt is ill fitting, not the suit) and with the jacket open and a stylish scarf?

olidusUrsus · 18/06/2013 22:52

pleaaase no scarf

PosyNarker · 18/06/2013 22:52

Dress definitely. I've been interviewing for client facing roles (financial services) recently and appearance is important. Not looks per se, but polish, a bit of discreet effort and well fitting clothes a must (men & women). Definitely dress!

doolallylass · 18/06/2013 22:56

Wear the dress. Better to feel happy and confident that itchy and worried. Good luck.

Standingonlego · 18/06/2013 22:57

Another interviewer here, dress!!!! A jacket on top would be great too if you want to change the look. Just mind your bra straps with the wide neck line.

A smile and good eye contact are the real winners Smile You want to wear something you feel good in, and the dress was always your natural preferance.

If you are nervous and likely to fidget avoid scarves. Wink

Standingonlego · 18/06/2013 22:58

Hope it goes well!

Joiningthegang · 18/06/2013 23:26

I like the dress - fine for interview

Joiningthegang · 18/06/2013 23:31

Just seen the photos - dress dress dress

LeGavrOrf · 19/06/2013 10:42

The dress definitely.

Burn the suit.

MarshaBrady · 19/06/2013 10:44

Dress, no scarf.

Good luck!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 19/06/2013 11:22

Suit is dreadful - its how I look in a suit too - like I've borrowed it off a neighbour or something! sorry Blush

You look great in the dress, where the dress!

{BabyDubs is off to buy the dress too Grin }

BabyDubsEverywhere · 19/06/2013 11:23

where the dress!! what the F!

WEAR the dress op :D

Lonelynessie · 19/06/2013 12:10

Wear the dress!

Crinkle77 · 19/06/2013 12:12

I wouldn't wear it. Think the cleavage bit is too low. I would want a more professional look

JambalayaCodfishPie · 19/06/2013 12:23

I really hope you wore the dress, it looks tons better, truely.
