interview tomorrow and DP thinks I should wear my black primark suit. It's ill fitting but I don't have much money and was the best i could afford. My other option is this dress www.amychildsofficial.co.uk/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=94&product_id=298 . DP says that it's better to play it safe in white shirt & black suit rather than feel stupid.

I think looking good in the dress is much better than the frumpy suit! His office is full of techy people. I don't think he understands women do wear more fashionable things to offices nowdays. Any opinions? I know it's not right, but I do think that flattering my figure and looking 'pretty' will help with my confidence if nothing else!

I would go for the dress but wear a cardigan and low heeled shoes to play it down a little. I have seen plenty of women in my office wear a lot worse, some girl thinks wearing dresses where the v neck line is so low it leaves nothing to the imagination is appropriate, another girl wears dresses with big cut outs in the back so half her back is exposed its more of a night out dress really, others wear short shorts with tights etc. and this is a law firm we are talking about.

gettingeasiernow · 18/06/2013 20:32

Do you know what the dress code is at the company you are going to? You should aim to dress at the most conservative end of the dress code for that firm.

I think depending on what sector the job would be working in, the dress may be best but it is quite glam so I would not go ott on shoes/bag accessories.
Way more important is how competent you come across. You are what you are whether you're in trousers or dress, so make sure the real you shines through.

moustachio · 18/06/2013 21:15

should be public now! :)

I have changed my mind.

Go for the dress, and good luck with your interview Smile

RikeBider · 18/06/2013 21:21

I really like the dress and think you look great/professional in it! The suit is fine too though I would follow the advice of whoever said wear a bright coloured top. Just go for whichever makes you feel most comfortable.

PrettyKitty1986 · 18/06/2013 21:29

Definitely the dress. Looks lovely.

Prawntoast · 18/06/2013 21:30

go for the dress, the suit doesn't look like it fits properly. Good luck!!

LEMisdisappointed · 18/06/2013 21:32

IVe changed my mind too! the dress, definately - good luck x

echt · 18/06/2013 21:33

As long as no cleavage shows, it should be OK, though I'd also have a sharp jacket to wear.

moustachio · 18/06/2013 21:34

gosh my op made me sound so big headed! I'm very very self concious and hate my figure!

Thanks, dress it is!

Dress looks great, good luck with your interview tomorrow!

lessonsintightropes · 18/06/2013 21:51

Definitely dress - you look great in it and it's far more flattering than the suit which I don't think gives a good impression. Best of luck, hope you get it.

HowlerMonkey · 18/06/2013 21:56

Dress! Although I'd advise going past M&S for a browse of their formal/suit section in case you get called back for a second interview; the Primark suit will not cut it after that dress :)

I've actually just got a job myself op (whoop whoop) and M&S have been a very handy source of reasonably-priced and decent-looking formal clothes.

deliciousdevilwoman · 18/06/2013 21:57

You HAVE to wear the dress! The suit is wronger than a wrong thing. Good luck!

Keztrel · 18/06/2013 21:59

Yy I've changed my mind too, dress looks fabulous on you OP and not inappropriate at all. Suit just looks awkward and unflattering.

Picturepuncture · 18/06/2013 22:00

Dress from me too.

The suit is reminiscent of a sixth former who has to have one for school. Dress looks far more 'adult'.

For my first job in education I wore a black trouser suit- a couple of years later (when I'd thoroughly proved myself) the head laughed at/with me about how she nearly didn't hire me because I looked like a pupil in my 'terrible cheap black suit'.

I've not worn a black suit to an interview since- always something to make you stand out (in a good way).

Kiriwawa · 18/06/2013 22:02

Dress is much nicer than suit - good luck :)

YesIamYourSisterInLaw · 18/06/2013 22:03

I love that dress and it really suits you,
I wish I had an office job so I could get one

HoratiaNelson · 18/06/2013 22:10

Wear the suit, you look cracking in it. How you feel is so important to how you perform. If you're worried about the neck line whack a scarf on (don't think you need to though) and try to get a jacket or 3/4 length sleeve cardie and you'll look the business. Much more professional looking than the suit.

For what it's worth, I'm a barrister (judges tell us they "can't hear" us if they seem us inappropriately dressed) and loads of my colleagues at the family Bar wear that kind of thing with a jacket (including the scarf!) I can't wear anything with a neckline that low because have to put daft neckwear on in court which would make it look weird, but I always wear figure hugging dress suits.

And for those who think attractiveness doesn't affect employability, don't be so naive!

HoratiaNelson · 18/06/2013 22:10

Epic fail! wear the suit meant wear the dress!!

ParadiseChick · 18/06/2013 22:11

Definitely the dress, I was dress all the way but even more so now!

Good luck!

SolomanDaisy · 18/06/2013 22:18

That is how I imagined the dress looking, it's great. Good luck!

Sallyingforth · 18/06/2013 22:20

I went for the suit, but having now seen the photo it clearly doesn't fit so it has to be the dress.
Good luck for the interview!

MrsLyman · 18/06/2013 22:22

Yes, dress looks great. Good luck with the interview!

AnyFucker · 18/06/2013 22:22

tbh, I wasn't saying your suit instead of the dress, I was thinking of another option entirely

but the suit is horrid and the dress of great

dress, dress, dress Smile
