In tesco yesterday. My trolley contained mostly value products, including fruit, veg, meat and cheese. I am on a very tight budget. 2 women behind me and I hear one stage-whisper "would you buy all that crap?"

Woman 2 says something I didn't hear, then woman 1 says "could be for the food bank, you wouldn't give them quality stuff..."

I turned and glared, they obviously realised I'd heard and looked embarrassed.

Are you sure they were talking about you? If so I'd definitely have set them straight. Probably pelted them with my value fruit and veg to be honest.

It's the people who turn their noses up at all Value products that are the idiots and have more money then sense. I think a glare was sufficient in this case.

Yes I'm sure it was about me - I could tell by how they looked when I turned round. Not many other people in there and the next till had no cashier.

It was quite a long glare I gave them but I wish I had said that food banks are not just for "crap", not that that's what I had bought!

Don't worry about it - hold your head high in the knowledge that you are living within your budget - you never know, they could well be maxed up to the eyeballs on credit cards and debt, and just about to have their card declined at the checkout

What the fuck is so bad about buying fruit and veg?? Value or otherwise?? They're probably the kind of imbeciles who think a Taste the Difference ready meal represents good quality food just because it's overpriced and has posh(er) packaging...!

I have had the same thing in Sainsbury's. I can only afford to buy own brand stuff, so my basket is full of everything in white and orange packaging!

However, none of it is 'crap' it's all healthy stuff or cleaning products.

And, to be honest, I am buggered if I am going to pay over a pound for a tin of beans when I can pay 20p. It's baked beans fgs.

I only buy value products, we are on a budget. Yesterday my DP asked me if i would buy differently if i won the lottery, my honest answer - no.

I assume she thought it was crap because it was all value stuff. Tbh I was too tired for a row anyway.

I hate people like this! At the end of the day, its food, and the fruit and veg especially is all the same no matter what 'brand' it is! Why waste money on the same product with better packaging?!

Funnily enough a lot of value stuff - ie smart price pasta sauce_ has far less colours, flavours and bulking agents in. They all make it more expensive.

How does the apple know its going in the value bag as opposed to the taste the difference pack???? What exactly is the difference??? Some things I think have to be bought branded... For me beans and soup! Other things like pasata, spaghetti, tinned veg don't bother me!!!!

Its size and shape that determines value fruit and veg. Ridiculous isn't it? An spud exactly the same as the usual bag goes into the value pack because it's a bit small.

I buy smart price fruit on purpose as they are smaller and the right size for my children to eat with no waste.

I got a funny look at the self service till the other day - it normally shouts "coupon accepted" at you but mine shouted "coupons exceeded" :D
