In tesco yesterday. My trolley contained mostly value products, including fruit, veg, meat and cheese. I am on a very tight budget. 2 women behind me and I hear one stage-whisper "would you buy all that crap?"

Woman 2 says something I didn't hear, then woman 1 says "could be for the food bank, you wouldn't give them quality stuff..."

I turned and glared, they obviously realised I'd heard and looked embarrassed.

I should have said something, shouldn't I? What a cow Sad

I am a bit obsessed with making sure my children get good quality food but I also know there are cheaper things and own brand labels that are probably healthier than branded or equal too. Short of reading all the labels - and I doubt I'd understand them anyway - how do you go about switching?

TIA if anyone can help me.

Even if you bought branded raisins for example, it would still be cheaper to buy a big bag and decant some everyday rather than buying the mini bags/boxes.

We eat well, but I don't see why I need to waste money. I went into the pound ship and bought a couple of packs of miniature plastic boxes, about 6x3 cm. Works really well, as I can get stuff decanted for several days in one go, saving time too.

Those women sounded really nasty about all this, pity they've clearly no empathy for others.

Hmm, pound shop, not ship. I really need a cuppa right now.Grin

88p a person is great value in this day and age! Shock

A perfectly balanced meal and pudding Grin

We've also found that menu planning saves money - you can buy bulk of something and use it in a few days' meals.

just goes to show, what you're born into doesn't shape your destiny.

each carrot, Oxbridge finest or Polytechnic Basics, all have a chance to be in spaghetti bolognese

I also check sizes as it sometimes cheaper to buy 2 smaller sizes rather then a the large one.
