Onesies, why is this awful craze occuring?

I can't help but thinking that Onesies are symbolic of the infantalisation of our nation (do you like what i did there?!) and should be banned for anyone over the age of three...AIBU?

YABU. I have a wonderful cat onesie which was a christmas gift from Tiny Clanger. It is just the thing for slipping on over PJs/other clothes and walking the dogs in the morning, when it is cold and damp. Plus, there is the comedy aspect of a cat walking some dogs.

FWIW, it is grey, and just looks like tracky bottoms under my coat.

I don't get them. OK, I don't like the look of them, either, but my main concern is practical. The coldest place in my house is the loo. Wearing a onesie would not be warm as you would freeze to death in the loo when you had to take it more or less right off Hmm

I have a onesie, it's leopard print.

I look like a little Britain character in it, thanks to my rounded tum and fat arse.

And it's a pain in the arse going to the loo, and it gets too hot.

But I still kind of like it

Thought no, no, no then bought one and I love it! I came late to the onesie party but am still wearing mine at night as it's cold here.

I love my onesies Grin .
So warm and comfy on cold nights.
No loo problems, I just put a t-shirt or vest top underneath. No chance of freezing then.
My Teen DSs love them as do my younger DDs.

Each to their own but, as Cardibach said, you need to take them right off to go to the loo. If the point is to keep warm, doesn't this defeat the object of wearing them in the first place?

Wearing them in public should be right out though, as with any other form of nightwear - if you can be bothered to go out surely you can be bothered to get dressed?

I can't wear a onesie. The shops don't sell them in gigantic size.

My DS has a Tasmanian Devil and American Stars and Stripes.

Ilikethebreeze I can't do it I'm sorry. I can't wear a Onsie! I did once own some polar fleece pajamas though..... HollyBerryBush yes i think i live in some kind of self imposed version of the arctic circle. Actually if I lived in the Arctic Circle then I would probably consider it.......... Gosh, that is a strong defence of the onsie trashcanjunkie! Are onsies actually fashion or are they like say overalls that are for practical purposes of keeping warm...?

I know 2 people who hated the idea of them, but had to go out and buy them to go to fancy dress onesie parties, and now like them.
So all you need op, is a fancy dress invite!

Because they are fun.

Must confess it is slightly odd seeing DD2 (12) in a navy flowery one, that looks very like one of her baby grows.

DH always called her bigger bigger baby when she wanted carrying up to bed as a toddler and small child. Now she looks like a giant baby.

My 15y just looks cute, but her pink fleece one doesn't resemble anything she wore when small.

I've had one for about ten years, they started as kigus or kigurumi and were Japanese animal costumes. We all have them in our house from cats to dinosaurs and stitch as well.
Kigus are the original and best and are so snug on a winters night when you get in from a long cold day.

I have been out in mine once, though in defence it was Halloween.

They are the most hideous item of clothing imaginable ... but we still have them. In our defence, we had them (homemade) before they became popular and for the sole purpose of holding off hypothermia at night when camping.

Like all crazes, there is sensible reason why they are so popular as well as all the silly ones.

And in the case of the onesie, it is that it is very, very comfortable. With no waistband, there's nothing to cut into our expanding tummies.

Your point re. going to the loo peeriebear - not in the case of my DH's friend's onesie. It has one of those old fashioned button over the bottom flaps. Which makes me boak at the thought of him actually going to the loo in it.
