I can't help but thinking that Onesies are symbolic of the infantalisation of our nation (do you like what i did there?!) and should be banned for anyone over the age of three...AIBU?

They're ok if you wear them as pjs but this new craze for wearing them outside makes me boak. You look like tools, stop it now.

YANBU, they're horrible. They look like overgrown babygros. Must be a complete pain in the arse to go to the loo in as well.
Baffles me.

YANBU. They are hideous on every one over the age of 2.

Haven't onesies been around for a good 2 years? Hardly a new craze is it?

I first bought a "onesie" in 1980 for DS from Mothercare. In those days they were called "walk-in sleepers" and were only available for babies.

When we moved house when DS was 5 I bought some fleece fabric and made him one, as the house was so cold in the mornings. I felt a bit bad making him wear such a babyish item.

I think it's hilarious that adults now wear these things! It just goes to show that with the right promotion you can get people to wear almost anything!

Maybe I will start a trend for the wearing of clothes with holes ripped in them. Or how about thick sheepskin boots with summer dresses? Or trousers with the crotch almost to the knees? No wait, someone's already thought of those!

Who can come up with a novel idea for the next bizarre clothing trend?

Mmm I hated them then got one for Christmas during a stay in a drafty coastal cottage I wouldn't admit it in real life but it's amazing. I wore my short and t shirt pj set I keep there and my underwear with knee high socks under it and it was so toasty and snuggly.

Not in public though.

I need A bottom flap one for camping! Was out last night and a bit chilly going to the loo.

I used to hate onesies when they first came out until I wore one and realised how comfy they are! I even have a maternity onesie and it's so warm and snuggly and is nice to lounge around the house in Grin

I have 3. Two fleecy ones and a light cotton one. I'm wearing my leopard print one right now. If anyone would like to discuss anything (and I do mean anything) I choose to spend my hard earned pennies on, feel free to email me at //www.ifallthefucksigavewereglassesofwaterthenyouwoulddieofthirst.com

I absolutely hated them with a passion and scoffed at my sis in law when she wore one to bed. But I have been converted! I bought myself a fleece one as I was so cold and to tight to put the heating on in the evenings and it's fab! I look a total twat and my dh laughs at me but I am sooooo toasty. I would of course never wear it outside because it is a nightwear item after all. Plus I do look like a numpty in it and I would never want anyone else to see me in it. Personally I think people who refuse to try it are worried they can't pull it off and don't have the courage to look like an arse while being warm and comfy Wink it's so worth the initial humiliation hehehehe

In the OP: infantilisation of the nation?

Most often these days the complaint is that children are forced to grow up too quickly. Maybe adults in onesies are the result! (Dons trainers with onesie, before hanging out washing)

I don't actually wear mine to bed though because I would die of a heat stroke in the night. I got it to go over my pjs. I also wear bed socks with it. Of course it does hinder sexy sofa time but like I say I take it off for bed. Wink

They shouldn't be banned and I can see why people like them (don't have one myself).

I do think they provide a useful uniform when out in public for identifying people whom I'm not going to have much in common with and give me opportunities to feel superior Wink
