To wonder why if iphones are so great ....

Why does the screen shatter so easily?
Almost everyone I have seen who has one recently has dropped it at some point and the screen is completely buggered.
I am not much into gadgets but I have always wanted an iphone (just can't afford one) If I do decide to indulge myself I am just not sure I can be trusted not to join the broken screen club!

I don't have an iPhone, but have an iPod touch and an iPad. No smashed screens here and don't know anyone else who's done it either. I love them, they're really intuitive and user-friendly. I have a htc something as my phone and can't get on with it at all, it's like they're trying to hide stuff from me!

I have a rubber case on my iPhone and iPad and both get "played with" and thrown about by my young DCs. We have a hard wooden floor. No breakages yet I've cursed it now, of course.

I have dropped mine loads of times and it's never broken.

My 6 year old has an iPhone 4 (he has ASD and it was cheaper and more portable than an iPad) and he's never broken his either.

Thinking about it again, I think iPhones have more smashed screens because they need replacing less than ones that android phones because they don't go wrong nearly as often. Just a theory :)

I used to agree with compos that apple were no better, just prettier, but having tried other tablets etc I have to disagree now - although they are v expensive. On the plus side they hold their value much more than other brands when you sell on.

Over the lady four years 7 iPhones or iPod touches have passed through this household and not one screen has cracked. DS1 rode his bike over one and it was fine. DH broke the screen on a Samsung in the first week.

I think a lot of it is luck. However I have heard that the glass back on the 4 was a bit vulnerable. We've had 3GS and 5 so can't comment

Last four years. Bloody android tablet!

That wouldn't have happened on my iPhone! Grin

Only one iPhone accident here. My iPhone3 survived dunking in the loo and many, many falls on the floor. Iphone4 has not been so lucky and I did indeed smash the back but it was easily replaced. Both iPads seems indestructible, touch wood.

Mines must be over three years old and never been smashed.

My friend has had he less than a year, dropped and shattered the screen the same way twice.

The only shattered iPod screen in here was when dd2 fell with dd1s iPod and banged it off the wall. DH managed to replace the screen himself for about a tenner.

DH left his iPhone 5 in the car this week though and when he went to get it, there was a band across the screen and a message came up saying the phone was to hot to use! He won't do that again in a rush.

It'd interesting binky that most people you know have switched from android to apple, most of my friends have done the opposite. None of my friends that work in phone shops recommend iPhones, and as a delivery driver my dad has delivered more iPhones from the repair shop than any other.
Also my mums Sony has a higher resale value than step-dads iPhone4.
Actually I think its down to personal preference I love my HTC, my mum loves her sony, my brother loves his iPhone!

I drop mine all the time and I've even hurled my phone down the stairs (accidentally) and it was fine.

DH dropped his from about a foot off the ground, screen shattered.

I've dropped mine loads (and so has DS when he's been using it to play Abert) and it's still fine.

Yep, some is personal choice obvs. It might be that your dad has delivered more I phones back because they are the popular single type of phone though (obvs more android altogether).

Generally, apple products (computers etc) do hold value more though.

I dropped mine in the full mop bucket, the screen was water logged for a day but it survived, I've dropped it over the banister at the top of the stairs several times but its survived, dropped it on to concrete, and my toddler gives it a good battering every day. Not a scratch on it! I really must buy a case though as my luck will run out soon.

Pink, turn off everything you don't need data wise. Ie weather/fb notifications/app notifications/automatic updates. Assuming you can do that on iPhones?

pink mine never goes anywhere near plan on data - what are you doing with it?

My mum is looking for a new phone to replace her geriatric Nokia (dumb phone) and can't get to grips with a touch screen but wants a phone with Asps (her words).

Is there anything apart from the Blackberry with a keyboard?

Had 3. Never damaged the screen yet. If you get a decent case it should be fine, unless you do something to it that would break any phone. Resale value is good, although DH has now got my 4 after persuading me to upgrade. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise, it's a good phone.

Funnily enough I broke many Nokia and Samsung screens before I went down the twatphone route. Maybe the price of it is making me more careful?

I don't like the Android phones I've tried. I like the way iPhones work. I like the feel of them . So I have an iPhone.
