AIBU?

To wonder why if iphones are so great ....

Why does the screen shatter so easily?
Almost everyone I have seen who has one recently has dropped it at some point and the screen is completely buggered.
I am not much into gadgets but I have always wanted an iphone (just can't afford one) If I do decide to indulge myself I am just not sure I can be trusted not to join the broken screen club!

I've never had a screen crack at all, let alone shatter. Infact have several Apple products - phones, iPods, Touch, iPad, etc and none have had any issues with breaking screens. Ours are used not just by me and DH, but by 1yy D (who has used them since she was 5 or 6) and various other children, including in my Y1 and Y2 classes at school.

Only way I managed to damage one was very recently when I put my phone in the washing machine! That didn't do it any good. I did get an out of warranty for £139 though and it was up and running with all my music, photos, apps, contacts, etc within 10 minutes of restoring in the shop.

I had an iPhone for 5 years and only cracked it once. It still worked perfectly. I've now got a Samsung s4.. And it's shit!

See I wouldn't push anyone into getting an iPhone over anything else. It's just my personal preference. I love my iPhone, my friend loves her Samsung.

I get irrational rage over the fanboys/girls with the whole 'Apple sheeple. Android/Samsung all the way!' delusion.
And those that say you pay for the Apple name?? The S4 is £629 sim free, similar with the new Blackberrys and the iPhone from £529.

The playing field is more level than they think.

Genuine question (from a Luddite Grin) what is so good about iphones, what do they do that other phones can't do?

Touch wood, mine have all been fine, and I'm a bit of an apple tart- we have the full collection.

Ragwort- I don't know enough about the techie stuff but the way you use it is very 'natural' the screens flow very easily and make sense to the brain. A very very small child can figure out in seconds how to move the screens.

Would blumming LOVE an iPad Smile

I've dropped mine more times than i can count and the screen has never cracked. Nor did the earlier models when I owned them. Them always have a case on,I've broken a fair few of those.

oopla -thanks, perhaps I had better try one as I find mobile phones incredibly difficult to use, have just about mastered how to text and make calls Grin.

Ragwort any smart phone has the touch screen thing. You don't need an iPhone for that. :)

In all honesty Ragwort, it's a personal choice. They are all pretty much the same in terms of being a 'smartphone'. Emails, music, apps etc. It just comes down to choice on operating system, Manufacturer etc

I like iPhone's intuative nature and the feel of the actual phones. My friend finds them too small and restrictive.

I think Samsung are plasticky feeling, too big and and a risk with open source apps. She loves the larger handset and that she has more freedom to change things to how she wants.

Swings and roundabouts.

Did you do a little head waggle when you wrote that?

What you need is one of the flippy cases that cover the screen. Mine is yet to fail me.

I cracked one screen but only after multiple drops.

In my experience android operating system goes wrong a lot. Most people I know who started on android have now moved to apple.

Yeah I'm with you op. i dropped mine loads of times and it was fine. Then one day i dropped it and the screen shattered into a million pieces. I replaced the screen and bought a big fuck off case to protect it.

My 3GS I had forever and I cracked it once by throwing it full force (it bounced off 3 walks before smashing onto a marble floor), my 4gs I got I. August and have dropped so many times (and DS has too), I forgot to put my case on last week and dropped it... Now it's smashed :(

Rubber cases. And I'm a clumsy cow. It's a year old now and (touch wood) absolutely fine.

That and I can't use my DD's Samsung for SHIT. I have yet to master sending a text on the damn thing.

I loathe Samsung phones. The menu doesn't seem to 'flow' properly, and the texting is just impossible.

I've never smashed the screen on any of my iPhones, neither has dp or ds.

And I'm very clumsy too.

I thought this the other day, everyone who has an iPhone seems to have multiple cracks on their screen.

I have a general dislike of Apple's wanky over-priced products and their style over substance ethos. So this is more fuel for my fire.

Oh balls. Does that mean no one else can comment now?

I've always thought that someone saying 'end of' was the equivalent of the judge's gavel hitting the block.

Sad

The answer to the OPs question is because even stupid/clumsy/unlucky people are allowed to own an iPhone

End of.
