Why does the screen shatter so easily?
Almost everyone I have seen who has one recently has dropped it at some point and the screen is completely buggered.
I am not much into gadgets but I have always wanted an iphone (just can't afford one) If I do decide to indulge myself I am just not sure I can be trusted not to join the broken screen club!

I've had mine for a few years now and it's ok so far. I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I don't think they are any more fragile than other phones, I've seen plenty of cracked Samsung galaxies too.

Pink you need to switch push notifications off and make sure your email doesn't connect every 15 minutes

And make sure that WiFi is switched on and you're not using 3G data all the time.

best thing to do to an iphone is chuck it so hard it breaks!
So just drop it from about an inch off the floor then lol!

Everyone I know even die hard apple fans have switched over to android (samsung S3's mostly) and they love them. Even the man in the phone shop said the S3 was the best phone in the world :) :)

Dh hates his iphone 4s. Bloody thing doesn't seem to filter out background noise (like my much cheaper Sony Xperia). It doesn't store emails as well as his old Blackberry and doesn't seem very reliable for delivering voicemails/messages.

I think it is fine if you want an ipod and just to make social phone calls, but it really isn't very good if you need it for work. His is supplied (and paid for) by work and it is so bad I'm considering getting him a Blackberry on contract just so I don't have to listen to any more complaints about it!

That said, he is proper clumsy and has managed not to bust the screen, despite dropping it first thing i did when he got it was buy him a decent case, cos I know what he is like

I had my iphone 3G for 3 years, them subsequent newer ones, one lasted 2yrs and the new one is still going. With a decent case on i have dropped mine and never broke a screen yet!
The worst phone is nokia lumia 920 as it needed replacing 3 times as touchscreen became non responsive. Swapped with dh as his iphone is better, whilst he has to keep getting replacments for crappy nokia

Most people I know with an iPhone have dropped it, and smashed the screen. I think they are terrible quality given the cost - that said apple are very clever, having worked with them I know first hand that their customer support is terrible (the worst I have ever come across), the way they treat their suppliers is despicable, the phones and gadgets themselves are pretty cheap to produce the most expensive part being the charging dock which ensures you have to buy more expensive docks, speakers, chargers etc, they don't support flash, you have to use iTunes, it takes a genius to get QuickTime off your PC etc etc. It's all very much about screwing the customer for every penny they can get with apple, they are renowned for being terrible to work with/for.

I would never buy apple, because I am opposed to their business practices and time their products are shoddily made.

That said all smart phones are much of a muchness in function. It's individual preference in terms of interface.

I've dropped my iPhone 4 many times, it has no cracks or scratches. However it does have front and back screen protectors and also I keep it in a soft rubber case, so when it gets dropped it bounces.

My phone is almost 2 years old and the only problem it has is an unresponsive Home button that keeps needing to be reset (I could get it fixed but the contract's due for renewal in a couple of months so I won't bother) When I do get a new phone, I am planning on getting another iPhone.

Most of my family have iPhones (4 and 4s), and none of theirs have ever shattered either. However I do have a couple of friends whose phones have shattered, it doesn't seem to be exclusive to the iPhone though.

Perhaps different iPhone models (iPhone 5) have different design flaws and are more susceptible to shatter when dropped?

I have a really thin rubber bumper, not even a full case and I've dropped it many times and it hasn't broken. I dropped the iphone I had before that without a case and it didn't break.

Touch wood I haven't cracked my screen neither has DH.

DH can fix iPhone and iPod screens, so I am safe in knowing that if mine does it can easily be fixed.

You would have thought they'd have sorted this by now! Apple screens are extremely delicate in general. I broke 4 iPod screens in a year and a half and it wasn't even hit that hard... So when it came to choosing a phone I wasn't even going there. Got an android, much prefer it. Samsung, had it well over a year, dropped a few times and its still perfect.

Samsung is best brand i've ever had. Used to have a D600 a few years ago and it was my longest lasting phone, lasted almost 4 years. Had a variety of other makes and all have bust within a year. So personally i'd go with a Samsung all day long!
