to want to be a size six ?

i am pretty petite (five 2 and "small boned" ) if i was taller, even just a couple more inches i would be more than happy being a 10 - 12 as proportionally i would still look very slim. but i am a shortarse little and every extra Lb shows :/

and would probably only need to lose 5 - 10lbs to get to this size (am currently 8 stone 2, and a dress size 8 - 10 )

i have been a size 6 before in my teens and early 20s and after i had dc1 and became single and basically couldn't afford to eat and felt great at that size, like i could wear anything

i just think very slim women look great in anything Envy ....and thats just MY opinion btw so i dont want to offend anyone

I'm 5ft3
I'm after getting stuck at 8st12.

My tummy isn't even the worst part it's the bloody fat bits at the back. WTF is that about?
Prior to having children I would have put weight on my thighs and bum. Remember those weekends where you drink and eat loads!

Now my legs are slimmer but I seem to have back fat. Yeuch.

I've been reading up on weight training too, seems the way to go.
Also, where I'm gaining seems to be connected to sugars. I don't eat sweet things but I'm assuming the vino is contributing to it.

I don't want to be size six, I lose my boobs at that size.

Who knows if YABU to want to be a size 6?

But weight and dress size can be an issue for a lot of people. I think we all have a size we are comfortable with. Obviously that varies because of height and build. But I know that I feel better when I am a size 10. I am currently a 12 but I've lost weight recently running. When I get back to a 10 I will feel better about how my body looks.

It's not my life ambition to reach a size 10 and stay there forever

But you were thin because you couldn't afford to eat

that was a bit of an exaggeration, basically, i had just become a single parent so couldn't really afford treats, and as i was newly single i didn't sit eating chocolate and sweets every night like you do when you are a couple (well like i do anyway :o )

and i know what you mean tigger i have got decent legs, long and slim and lovely slim arms, that are if anything, more toned since having kids as i often have to lug them about.... its my fucking middle area that won't shift, i am well jealous of these freaks of nature lucky women whose bodies don't get wrecked in some way by having kids Envy

I don't think size 6 for someone who's 5'2" is unreasonable at all.

I'm 5'10" and fit anything from an 8 to a 12, depending in the shop, and I'm definitely not skinny. I can easily pinch an inch on my tummy, amd my thighs are not exactly svelte. Someone who's 8 inches shorter than me would, I'd have thought, looked perfectly in proportion at size 6.

I think our view of a normal, healthy weight is getting increasingly distorted. Most people carry more weight than they should, and I include myself in that. Certainly more weight than people did a couple of generations ago.

Well, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be a healthy weight for your size, that's very sensible, also people these days carry more weight than they used to - constantly availability of food, more processed snacky stuff like crisps/choc
bars, less activity are all an issue here.

Feeling miserable because you don't fit into what you deem to be the "ideal" size for you isn't good though.

Apologies for wonky formatting and random extra letters on words there!

I remember when the skinny jeans craze came in and women were dieting down to a size 8 to look good in them. I got the skinny legs and flat bum but for the life of me I couldn't shift my tummy. Very very hard for some people to get down to a size 8 never mind a size 6. If it makes you happy then YNBU. I agree DonDrapersAlterEgoBigglesDraper people generally seem to be a lot bigger now. I think for most people, a BMI of around 22 looks the best. Am clueless about sizing these days as it seems to shift constantly.

I'm definitely not an eight-think big bum and distinctly less than flat stomach - I still wear skinny jeans!

I think the problem begins when weight loss stops being about wanting to be a healthy weight and you start beating yourself up for not being a "ideal" weight.

dondraper just goes to show how much variation there is between different people of the same height and how they carry weight. I am also 5'10 and the one time I would fit in a size 8 was following a serious illness. I was just over 9 stone. You could see my ribs and collarbone. I looked very ill. A size 10 would leave me looking skinny, a 12 normal and a 14 makes me look overweight.

OP only you know what size makes you look best for your height/build, but personally I woul rather be a larger size and toned than thinner.

YANBU.

I'm 5ft 2, probably around the 7st 10lbs mark (I rarely weigh myself), usually a size 8, 30E boobs so still got curves.

I would start to look a little chubby at a size 10.

I can get down to a size 6 simply by hitting the gym harder than usual doing a lot more toning and weights, rather than the swimming and cardio stuff that I normally do.

Agree with everything DonDrapers said.

MoodyDidIt Sorry, bra bore alert! A DD is not a big cup size at all, in fact on someone your frame (if wearing the correct back, probably a 28) then it's a very small cup indeed. Have you visited any of the bra intervention threads?

You shouldn't get hung up on sizes. Different shops, different sizes. How come I am a 10 in Debenhams, a small in Wallis, a 14 in Next and 14's in Primark at too tight? Last year I was just a couple of pounds lighter than I am now and I was a 10 in Next Hmm I'm just a squidge under 5ft and weigh 8 3/4 stone. Only 10 years ago I went down to 6 1/2 stone during a divorce and a lot of cycling and then I wore size 8's. Perhaps I should get my bike out again Smile

MoodyDidIt I also have big norks . Size 12 but my boobies are out of control. They are 34 DD. Going for an interview today and I had an L Zara coat on - very nice coat - but my boobs wouldn't allow it to close.

I hate my boobs. They have been big since I was 16. I am considering a reduction but think that is a bit drastic. Sad

in theory you can be 7 and a half stone at 5'2" and still be healthy but personally i'd advise you hit the gym rather than try to lose lbs.
the best shaped bodies are not those with no fat on them, they're those with toned muscles.

Wish I was a size 6 Sad

I used to be a size 4 before I got pregnant with DD. I was 5ft 7 and 8 and a bit stone. Now I'm about two stone heavier which sucks.

I still think I'm a skinny girl and can eat what I want, like I used to be able to. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

I'm 5.5 and a size 8. I dread whenever I go up a size cos I end up looking pear shaped :( I'd quite happily go up to a size 12 if it meant some would go to my boobs, lol.

DD is a 5ft 1 and a size 4. Getting clothes to fir, especially nice underwear, is very difficult not to mention the catty comments she gets from other females about her size. Why can't society just accept people for the size they are?

MomsNetCurtains · 21/05/2013 15:58

hell 5ft 1 and a size 4 I can understand. Surely that is normal?

Report
hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/05/2013 16:02

None of our local clothes shops stock a 4, sometimes you can find a 6 if you're lucky but she usually has to go down to somewhere like Lakeside to find shops that stock 4s.

MomsNetCurtains Are you sure you're in the right size? A 34 back is big for a size 12 and as I said up-thread, a DD isn't big at all. I suspect you need a much smaller back and a bigger cup. Come on over to the bra threads Grin

I don't think many people should weigh less than 8 stone really and certainly not under 7.5 stone - it's not good for your bones. I spent some time being a size 6 when I was ill and ate literally nothing and spent all my time walking around.

It can't have been healthy that for me to be that size I had to eat nothing - not for the long term.

It's fashinable in showbiz for people to be stick thin at the moment and I think this contributes to people thinking they're fat when they're not - if you look at music videos from 10-15 years ago people were not all a size 0 like now.

Sorrel I saved a BRILLIANT thread that you were on about 2 months ago and you helped so many of us with bra sizes! I have it saved as a Word Doc. Smile

It sucks though as I live in Australia and they don't have R&P or anything near as good for the measuring that you advocated.

I have however taken what you said and I do measure my boobs leaning forward....haha!

I would just like to say thank you for what you did before - I WILL get a proper bra fitting.....but here in Aus it is SHIT.

Also, I have lost weight so I am now smaller, thank God.

But yes, your information was literally life changing for me - without being mushy - so THANK YOU. xxxxxxxxxx
