to want to be a size six ?

MoodyDidIt · 20/05/2013 10:49

i am pretty petite (five 2 and "small boned" ) if i was taller, even just a couple more inches i would be more than happy being a 10 - 12 as proportionally i would still look very slim. but i am a shortarse little and every extra Lb shows :/

and would probably only need to lose 5 - 10lbs to get to this size (am currently 8 stone 2, and a dress size 8 - 10 )

i have been a size 6 before in my teens and early 20s and after i had dc1 and became single and basically couldn't afford to eat and felt great at that size, like i could wear anything

i just think very slim women look great in anything Envy ....and thats just MY opinion btw so i dont want to offend anyone

Moody Seriously, I learnt so much from Sorrel. The support comes from the back, not the straps. She really, REALLY knows what she is talking about. Smile

flippinada · 21/05/2013 16:48

I wear a size twelve (well, 12-14 at the moment, trying to lose the excess) and take a 32 back.

If you're very slim (i would say 6-8 is very slim) you are more likely to be a 28 or 30 back size and a larger cup size.

flippinada · 21/05/2013 16:51

I also have big boobs (32FF-G depending on make of bra) and remember the mortification of getting measured as a teen.

I was a 32DD then (age 16) and the only thing they had were these horrible old lady bras. Things are a lot better now :).

TeWiSavesTheDay · 21/05/2013 16:57

I'm a 6/8 and wear a 28 back.

I normally weight 7st7lb, and I'd say that's my natural weight atm. I'm 5'4" so that's the low end of healthy, but there are health reasons for that. I certainly don't state myself or diet at all, and only exercise moderately.

For someone shorter, the healthy weight range and waist measurement will be smaller, which is entirely natural and nothing to do with cultural expectations, it just is what is healthy for that height.

flippinada · 21/05/2013 17:05

I think the healthy weight ranges cover quite a wide range don't they?

So at 5ft 2" something like 7st 7lbs to just under 10st is regarded as a healthy weight (not idea what the exact figures are). A wee bit under or over those probably ok too I'd guess.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 21/05/2013 17:15

Yes, absolutely.

I was responding to the comment thread about anything under 8st being unhealthy, which I disagree with. Should have said!

peteypiranha · 21/05/2013 17:40

I weigh just under8 stone and am 5 foot 3 and Im not skinny. I have 30e boobs. I can eat whatever I want at this size and dont think its unhealthy skinny by miles.

Creamtea1 · 21/05/2013 18:26

Please can someone link me to the bra experts threads?? I've been wearing the wrong bras for years in sure...I also like wearing sports bras for normal wear! Before preg I was a size 8-10 and wore a 34B bra. Now I'm 25 weeks preg (wearing size 10 maternity or 12 normal clothes) and have moved myself up to a 36C bra - is that all totally wrong?? They seem massive to me but it would never cross my mind to have a smaller back size?

Thank you Sorrell Smile (off to measure...)

The thing is, OP, we can't see you, and we can't know what would be a sensible and healthy weight for you.

FWIW, I'm also 5' 2", and I weigh just around 47 kg, so I think just under 7.5 st in old money. That's right at the bottom of the 'healthy' range for BMI, and if I'm ill/stressed and my weight falls any more, I definitely look underweight and unhealthy.

I still am a size 8 though, and a size 10 in teenager type shops - I wouldn't even think of picking up a size 6. I don't know how old you are (I'm 43), but I think as you get older you kind of 'spread' regardless of how much you weigh!

Lottieandmia, lots of people do weigh under 7.5 stone! At 47kg I eat like a horse, as I say I tend to drop weight if for any reason I'm off my food. But I'm small built and have a pretty active lifestyle. I know plenty of people smaller than me . . .

mooface · 21/05/2013 19:23

Can you even be a size 6 and still have tits and an arse?

peteypiranha · 21/05/2013 19:27

Cause you can mooface.

mooface · 21/05/2013 19:33

I suppose they would be very perky Envy

xylem8 · 21/05/2013 19:41

I don't think many people should weigh less than 8 stone really and certainly not under 7.5 stone - it's not good for your bones. I spent some time being a size 6 when I was ill and ate literally nothing and spent all my time walking around

Some people are naturally under 8 stone. Before I had a baby I weighed 7 stone 11, entirely normal for me. And yes I ate.

lottieandmia · 21/05/2013 20:01

Yes, I know some people are naturally under 8 stone of course, but most aren't. I'm talking really about the celebs who are say 6 stone 11, not 7 stone 11 and people starting to think they ought to be like that too.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 21/05/2013 20:05

Depends which celebs you mean though, I can think of loads who are no more than five feet tall - so weighing very little (comparatively) could still be healthy.

carabos · 21/05/2013 20:45

I'm a size 8 but have found a very easy way to become a 6 when I want to - walk through the door at Dorothy Perkins, Queen of Vanity Sizing. Totally painless, no diet or exercise required. Magic! Grin

lottieandmia · 21/05/2013 20:48

Oh come on we all know the size zero look is currently expected of women in the public eye. You can't possibly argue that most of them are naturally thin - it is well documented that they have to eat (or not) a certain way to look the way they do and have special exercise programmes. I don't know if anyone remembers Louise Nurding doing an experiment to reach a size zero and how she said it would be impossible to maintain living normally.

monicalewinski · 21/05/2013 21:02

For me it's not all about weight any more, I gave that up in my 20s - I am 5' 2" and my "natural" body weight (ie not having to constantly restrict my eating) is 11 & 1/2 stone. I am a large size 10/small 12 at that weight, hourglass with flat tummy.

Although I weigh loads more than I "should", I am much smaller than others who weigh less than me - this is due to an active job and regularly doing interval training at the gym.

I really wish women would stop being so hung up about weight/dress size all the time - if you are healthy, active and fit then your body will find a "natural" weight, be it 8 stone or 12 stone.

deste · 21/05/2013 22:28

At what point do you go from being slim, 5'4 and size 4, to be suffering from malnutition. Friend eats nothing all day and then might have cuppa soup and an egg sandwich at night. Anyone on here who is a size 4/6, do your bones protrude?

ReindeerBollocks · 21/05/2013 22:35

I am a size six and weig about six and a half stones (recently weighed 42kgs, whatever that is).

I have boobs (28E-F) and hips and am a curvy but small woman. I take offence at this skin and bone shite. I am not just a bag of bones and I DO eat. I need to tone muscle, that would make me healthier, but my female line were all of the small but curvy gene pool. My mum was the same, as was my grandmother.

You can't see ribs although you can see hips bones, which has become more prominent since childbirth.

ArgyMargy · 21/05/2013 22:41

Moody - if you want to be a size 6 just go to M&S. You will find you already are.

monicalewinski · 21/05/2013 22:52

Reindeerbollocks that's the point I think, everyone is different and everyone has their own natural size where in=out and no hardcore dieting required, whatever weight that may be. To be so hung up on a dress size like the OP, or weight like some others is daft - only a very few "lucky" people are naturally slim with big boobs, small waists, flat tummies and pert bums all the rest of us have to just accept what nature's given us and get on with it.
