to want to be a size six ?

MoodyDidIt · 20/05/2013 10:49

i am pretty petite (five 2 and "small boned" ) if i was taller, even just a couple more inches i would be more than happy being a 10 - 12 as proportionally i would still look very slim. but i am a shortarse little and every extra Lb shows :/

and would probably only need to lose 5 - 10lbs to get to this size (am currently 8 stone 2, and a dress size 8 - 10 )

i have been a size 6 before in my teens and early 20s and after i had dc1 and became single and basically couldn't afford to eat and felt great at that size, like i could wear anything

i just think very slim women look great in anything Envy ....and thats just MY opinion btw so i dont want to offend anyone

Size 8-10 is not fat under any circumstances whatever netcurtains would like to think. You must feel pretty terrible about yourself in some way to keep trying to make others feel bad.

choceyes · 20/05/2013 12:48

I'm 5'2 and weight 7 stones 2lbs (a bit lower than that at the moment as is recovering from a tummy bug and couldn't eat for a week...but now in the process of making it up!). But I couldn't fit in a size 6, well I could depending on the type of garment and shop. But I always go for a size 8 (except for Next, M&S etc where even a 6 is too big) and it seems fine on me....hardly ever try on a 6. I just don't look skinny enough to be a size 6. Perhaps because I have a flabby belly after 2 c-sections close together, plus have generous boobs.
I have slim arms and legs, but flabby middle. It's my middle I need to tone up....maybe that's what you want too OP?

musickeepsmesane · 20/05/2013 12:48

Your build sounds very similar to mine. I spent most of my life being 7 and a half stone. People were very pass remarkable about my eating habits (was naturally skinny) I now weigh a bit over 8 and a half stone. I do feel I should lose a couple of pounds as my frame is very slight. I am very happy being a size 8. I do believe though that todays size 8 is the 80s size 10. I think possibly you should think about toning up rather than going down a size. I also disagree that skinny women look good in anything. If you are too thin no one looks at your clothes anyway.

I have a skinny sister who is currently on a health and exercise kick to most people's horror. She certainly doesn't need to diet to lose weight but the recent results of a healthcheck told her that her complacent approach to her diet jelly beans and microwave meals were doing her no favours where her body fat percentage and cholesterol levels were concerned.

Of course YANBU, but given that you fall well within the healthy range perhaps it would be better to focus on a healthy range of exercise activities so that you tone up rather than lose weight per se? A few decent circuits classes a week and you'd probably shed a dress size in a month.

That way, in all likelihood, you'll be the size you want to be, a good role model for your kids and probably live to a ripe old age without a shocking case of osteoporosis.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 20/05/2013 13:17

I'm 5'3 and having been a size 6 in the past wouldnt want to be again. I looked ill. Mind you different strokes for different folks. I'm very Envy that you're a 8-10! Currently a 12-14 and about to go on holiday in 2 weeks, cue mass panic about my fat arse/big belly.

MoodyDidIt · 20/05/2013 13:37

I do believe though that todays size 8 is the 80s size 10

deffo or even size 12

i think sizes have definitely become more generous. vanity sizing i think its called, but thats a whole other thread

also i would never, ever let my dcs know or see me worrying about being a certain size. as my mum constantly moaned about her weight when i was growing up and was constantly saying she wished she looked like so + so etc, and its probably why i am like i am, as she so obviously didnt like herself. which is really sad.

bulletwithbutterflywings · 20/05/2013 13:47

Well I'm 5'8 and I'd like to be a size 6 too! I think an 8 is doable though! All this 'size 6 is unhealthy' is crap. For some people it might be be but not everyone!

ReindeerBollocks · 20/05/2013 13:50

I'm a size six and also a short arse

I normally look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. Getting jeans/trousers that keep me looking slim, whilst not drowning me is an impossible task.

I'd love to be taller and weigh more, but it ain't gonna happen (well maybe in time i'll weigh more, but I'll still be short).

ReindeerBollocks · 20/05/2013 13:53

Btw, just to add despite weighing just over six stone I do eat, and have a great love of food, and don't do any of this skipping meals nonsense. I have just started exercising, mainly to tone up and improve my general health. I get a lot of nasty comments if I say this to anyone, so have just stopped mentioning it!

Mominatrix · 20/05/2013 13:56

I'm 5'2" and a size 4-6 and am not scrawny! No protruding bones and fairly muscular. 4-6 on someone my height is more like an 8-10 in someone 5'6.

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 20/05/2013 14:03

I just wrote something similar on the 'where you shop for clothes' thread.

I am currently a UK size 6 but I am the same size as I was ten years ago when all my clothes labels told me I was a 10. How does that work?!

It is a pain! I am CONSTANTLY being told I need to eat more, I've lost weight, blah blah. I have been the same weight since I was 18 (apart from pregnancy, now 32). Always somewhere between 7 1/2 and 8 stone. It is also a pain to find clothes that are small enough. I'm always having things altered.

Interestingly, I now live in the US and am 16 weeks pregnant. I have lost count of the number of American friends I have who have told me I don't look pregnant. I very definitely do - as my best friend from home described - a straw with a golf ball! There just seems to be a greater acceptance of weight issues here and people would rather tell you that you look thin than admit they are overweight (gross generalisation but IME true).

I think my body shape is metabolism related as my brothers are the same - can eat anything and don't put on weight.

In answer to your question, YANBU, but it comes at a price!

SusanneLinder · 20/05/2013 14:08

I was a size 6, and I just looked ILL.Not saying what other people should do though. Middle age brought about weight gain and am now a size 12. Looking back on photos of me, I just think omigod, I looked dreadful.

However even at a 12 , I am a bit podgy, could do with losing middle aged spread.I think 8-10 is a good size, but that depends on your height.

Personally I believe if you eat properly and exercise, it doesnt really matter what size you are.

WeAreSix · 20/05/2013 14:18

I'm a size 6 - 8. About 5' 3".

It's an absolute fucking nightmare to find clothes that fit. My best friend is 5' 6" and a size 12 - 14 and never has a problem finding clothes in her size.

I'd rather be a size 10.

musickeepsmesane · 20/05/2013 14:19

Reindeer isn't is ridiculous how people feel they can comment on the diet and exercise of slim people? I get it all the time. Folk can be genuinely amazed that I eat......ffs. Can you imagine if I responded to "I don't know where you put it all? I didn't think you ate pudding" with "well I can see where yours goes, are you sure you should have that pudding?" Grin

MoodyDidIt · 20/05/2013 14:24

aaaargh am sooooo jealous of those of you that can eat what you want and not put on weight

sorry Blush

i used to be like that too :(

MummytoMog · 20/05/2013 14:28

I'm 5'2" and 70kg. But I'm only a size twelve, so heavy boned obvs! Anyway, size 6 would be too thin for my bone structure, but if the OP wants to be a 6 and thinks it would work, why not? I'd love to be a stone or two lighter, I'm just too lazy to work at it and I would need to.

Lweji · 20/05/2013 14:35

I am only 1 inch taller than you, also small boned and I prefer to be a UK size 8.
But then I don't wear very tight clothes.

I have recently gained a bit of weight, and I am quite happy with it.
I felt too skinny when I was lighter and could wear a 6.

thezebrawearspurple · 20/05/2013 14:37

Why should it be a problem if it's the weight you feel your healthiest and most confident at? Everyone's different and some people are best suited to being small.

Lweji · 20/05/2013 14:39

I also don't get the supposed change in dress size.
I have always been literally the same weight and shape for 20 years and I have always worn a size 8/6.

I suspect some clothes are made to be worn tighter and others looser, which can confuse some people.

SorrelForbes · 20/05/2013 14:47

These threads always puzzle me. At my thinnest/lightest (age 18) I was 8st 9lb and wore a size 10/12 (1980s). These days, I'm still in a 10/12 but I'm certainly a bit larger. I don't weigh myself but would estimate that I'm around 10st (most of which is my boobs). The thing is though, I own clothes in a range of sizes from 6 to 12, all of which fit. Sizing is a lot of bollocks.

MoodyDidIt · 21/05/2013 08:36

well in the 90's when i was a teenager and about 7 stone wet through, i wore a size 8, same as now, sometimes even a 10

( BTW i know i said i was a size 6 as a teenager, i meant would have been todays size 6)

anyway i am on day 3 of my diet today and am aiming to walk the dcs to school and back every day which will be a total of about an hours walk a day. so am hoping this will help

Sallystyle · 21/05/2013 08:47

If you're not already start strength training.

Pick up the book 'The New Rules of Weight Lifting For Women'

That will burn more fat than anything else and also make you look leaner and more compact.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 21/05/2013 09:54

My lightest was when I was 18, I weighed 7 stone at 5 ft 2. Even my Mum worried about me. 6 years ago I weighed 7st 4, I was probably classed as underweight.

When I was pregnant my bump stuck straight out, I don't think it had anywhere else to go. I have no idea where to buy clothes anymore, my shape is different now I've had a baby and I've no idea what suits me.

Doesn't help that in most shops clothes are too bloody long and the petite ranges are rubbish.

Fakebook · 21/05/2013 09:59

But you were thin because you couldn't afford to eat Confused. You were malnourished....where did you get money to wear whatever you wanted? If it makes you happy and are determined to be a size 6 then it shouldn't be too difficult to achieve it
