What about smoking? Does that stop anyone donating? I'm AB+ have no idea what that means though.

thanks for the advice, I had been drinking lots of water beforehand and they did have biscuits. perhaps I just needed to keep myself a bit better fed/watered in the days leading up to it :) I will do it again.

I can't donate as I have had cancer, but my OH is a regular donator and am very proud of him for it :)

They kicked me out last time as it was too cold. I am now only allowed to donate in the summer months

I donate regularly, though I need to keep my BMI at the higher end of the healthy range as I'm only 5 feet tall so an "ideal" BMI means I'd weigh too little to give blood!
I'm actually quite good at giving blood, can do it in my lunch hour and still have time for a leisurely lunch.

I gave my 10th pint on Friday - I do it because my cousin has needed loads in her scrap with cancer and I REALLY hate needles but it's a doddle now

I can't as I am permanently on chemotherapy but would like to send a huge thankyou to those that do donate as I had to have a blood transfusion last week as I was anaemic

I have an appointment to donate blood next week, I will be sure to get my tits out and have a good look around to see how many mnetters I can spot!

DH was turned away last time as he has been to Africa to work. It doesn't matter that he gets off a plane, into a taxi and onto a ship. Then does the reverse 2 months later.

They said he'll probably never be able to donate again.

I really should go but I have a habit of throwing up at needles

Well I've just come back and forgot to get my tits out. There was a young first time on the floor as he felt a bit hot and they were worrie he would faint. I think the poor bloke was so embarressed I hope it doesn't put him off

I'm too frightened. I want to but can't quite bring myself to do it. I had a blood test once that left me feeling butchered. :(

I am currently rallying people on Joe Trazzle's thread to give blood in honour of Joe and Ailidh.

You can donate 4 months after having a tattoo, but you must make sure to mention it at the session (i think they can do other tests, or divert the blood for another use).

I had a tattoo in October and wasn't able to donate until Feb.

grumpyinthemorning If you are AB+, you are able to be given blood from any blood group if it's ever needed, as it has all the antibodies from the different groups. Also, your blood can only be given to other AB+ people.

At the other end of the scale you have O Neg (like me) and this blood group can be given to any one in an emergency. But, people who are O Neg can only be given O Neg themselves, so there's always a demand for donors who are O Neg.

Every donor is important though, the more we have, the better it'll be.

Why can you not donate after a transfusion? I always donated and then had 3 transfusions after an ectopic.

I've never been told the reason why I can't donate again. I thought you made new blood anyway? I failed biology at O'level be gentle

I think it is becuase i got the transfusion before a certain time 1980 something maybe not I do know I am underweight though ,
