Can't give blood as have had unprotected sex with an African national (seriously, they've told me that because DH is African they can't accept my blood unless he donates too and then they will screen it for HIV/AIDS) but if you can give blood, go for it. Annoyingly I'm also an O negative which is the universal blood type isn't it?

WTFisABooyhoo · 15/04/2013 23:12

i cant for another few months (tattoo) but will once i'm past the time limit.

WTFisABooyhoo · 15/04/2013 23:14

cant give blood that is. i can get my tits out anytime Grin

calmlychaotic · 15/04/2013 23:24

I had a blood transfusion 9 months ago. Does that mean I can never give blood or can I after a certain amount of time.?Looked but can't find answer to this.

WildlingPrincess · 15/04/2013 23:31

I've always had coldsores recently, or a tattoo. Or has it changed now?

SquirrelNuts · 16/04/2013 00:00

Unfortunately i can do neither, id faint at the look of the needle and after 2 DCs my tits would scare everyone off.
Well done everyone that does give blood though!

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 00:10

calmly unfortunately you wont ever be able to give blood afetr a blood transfusion.

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 00:11

wildling i'm not sure about coldsores but tattoos have to be 12 months since last one before you can donate.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/04/2013 00:17

I'm going to have some tested to see if I can donate platelets next time.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 16/04/2013 00:28

I've always wanted to but don't think I can - my factor 8 level is quite low (mild haemophiliac level), so I've always assumed they won't want my blood. If anyone could clarify this for me I'd be very grateful!
Not sure anyone would want to see my boobs either!

K8Middleton · 16/04/2013 00:29

I will be donating for the first time once dd is on solids next month assuming my iron levels are ok. For years I couldn't, then I procrastinated, then I booked the appointment, then I got pregnant about two days before my appointment came through... but now I can so I will save some lives :)

I'm O neg so while I can give all you lot my lovely red stuff I can only have O neg back. So there'd better be some tit flashing, a cup of tea and a biscuit to make up for it.

Duelling my dad had a reaction like that after years and years of donating with no problems. He thinks it's because he hadn't eaten enough and was a bit dehydrated before he donated.

K8Middleton · 16/04/2013 00:32

Look you lot of fellow procrastinators (I can say that, I was one too), stop waiting for someone to check and tell you and look for yourself and then get booked in or go down to your nearest donation place.

Here is the link so no excuses! www.blood.co.uk/can-i-give-blood/

edwardcullensotherwoman · 16/04/2013 00:36

Blush Grin thanks K8 !

I have tried looking it up before but could never find cut-n-dried information on it. Clearly didn't look hard enough!
Never even crossed my mind to just go in and ask Blush

K8Middleton · 16/04/2013 00:38
Grin

I'm going to have to blooming go now aren't I?

ArtemisKelda · 16/04/2013 00:42

Once DD is 9 months old, I'll be back to giving blood again. Think it's best to keep my saggy boobs covered Grin

edwardcullensotherwoman · 16/04/2013 00:52

After that pep talk K8 , I'm afraid so! Grin

Well from what I can see on the site, I can give blood, but I may pop in to the next trailer that comes by, because to my mind, if my blood doesn't clot properly it seems a bit daft to give it to someone in need of a transfusion, unless the clotting factor in their own blood balances it out.. Gosh that's a lot of headwork for late Monday night! Confused

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 16/04/2013 00:57

Duelling make sure you've had lots to eat & drink beforehand, you could have been dehydrated or have had low blood sugar. Let them know the next time that you felt dicky so they can keep an eye on you, and if you feel it coming on again tell them immediately. Also a good nights sleep beforehand is good, and an early night afterwards!

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 16/04/2013 00:58

Thanks for starting this thread. I try to give whenever the blood clinic visits my town (couldn't the last time they were here as had had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks before, apparently one cannot give blood for 4 months after a colonoscopy. Was very disappointed). My DP is alive today thanks to some wonderful donor. I will always be grateful to that person.

Threads like this do inspire people. I am registered as a bone marrow donor thanks to the wonderful MrsDeVere. I hope that some day I may have the opportunity to try and save a life, if I do, it will be because of her.

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 16/04/2013 00:58

Oops didn't see K8Middleton 's post!

larlemucker · 16/04/2013 01:53

I will once I'm allowed, DS is only 3.5 months.

Am also Oneg and midwife asked I donate as I'm special!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/04/2013 01:56

BOOOOOBS. I can't give blood (permanently banned in this country Sad ) but I'll show anyone my boobs if they take my place.

I have so far been banned over the years for; piercings (body); having sex in Africa (weird) and now I live in a country that bans you from giving if you lived in the UK between x date and y date (CJD).

ripsishere · 16/04/2013 01:57

Not allowed to in Malaysia. Apparently, due to living in the UK I have BSE.
There's no two ways about it. I am a mad cow Angry

TentativeWhistleBlower · 16/04/2013 02:32

In a few weeks I can go again ( had to wait a year after tattoos) but will go as soon as I can :)

YoniRaver · 16/04/2013 11:47

You only have to wait 4 months after tattoos

Duelling I have given blood while b/f a toddler and like a previous poster said I would make sure you had enough to eat and drink before hand. Also in the days running up to donation make sure you're not skipping meals or fluids and avail yourself of the crisps and biscuits while you're there

Our donation centre now has biscuits as you arrive to go with your pint of squash/water

Binkybix · 16/04/2013 11:55

I will be donating again 6 months after having giving birth to my current bump!
