Slightly scented tampons - what fresh hell is this?

I was in Tesco yesterday buying tampons. I normally get the Tesco own-brand non-applicator ones, because applicators are just more environmentally unfriendly unflushable septic tank destroying crap. Annoyingly, however, Tesco were out of any non-applicator tampons in anything other than super-plus plus. After some deliberation, ruling out Tampax Pearl because of the infuriating adverts, I picked up Tampax Compak Fresh, because I couldn't see any difference between them and the unfresh ones. Not until I opened the box this morning did I clock the 'slightly scented' bit. Readers, I feel sullied.

AIBU to think that slightly scented tampons are the most ridiculous idea ever?

I thought they disappeared from UK shelves years ago?

Anyway, they are still big in the US -its hard to find regular one actually!

Have they been relaunched then?

StellaNova · 27/02/2013 13:48

Re the super plus plus thing, has anyone else found that corner shops often only ever seem to stock super plus? Where we lived in London and where we live now, the local shop only ever has super plus. My theory is that the male shopkeepers believe that "super" refers to quality or something, and therefore they are only stocking the best.

I suppose they might just always sell out of the other, but whenever I go in, that is all they have.

As others have said above this sounds hideous and a recipe for irritation and infections.

I have been using a Mooncup for 10 years now and I will never ever go back to using 'those other things'.

Remotecontrolduck · 27/02/2013 15:53

Oh ffs WHY? It's like the always pads, they are (or were, hopefully someone's been sacked) all scented now! Why the hell would I want something that smells like poundland perfume on or in my vagina?! Angry

Animation · 27/02/2013 16:45

Why don't they manufacture and advertise wipes especially for a man's bell end, rim area and hiatus.

Animation · 27/02/2013 16:48

...scented male wipes

GlaikitFizzog · 27/02/2013 16:51

twentythirteen · 27/02/2013 16:52

GlaikitFizzog · 27/02/2013 16:56

Animation · 27/02/2013 17:01

Aww, wipes exist called 'Fella' - well I think they need more vigorous advertising on TV - maybe at prime time after Cora.

Btw - miatus not hiatus. Blush

BegoniaBampot · 27/02/2013 17:03

that's it, off to boots right now to buy a mooncup! are they really that good? wish me luck!

mum47 · 27/02/2013 17:07

Oh god reading this took me back to when I went into labour with ds1. Waters had broken, sister gave me some pads.
When I went into hospital the nurse took the pad to check for discharge or something, sniffed it and said with screwed up nose "scented pad, can't tell if any unusual odours because of that"
I literally shrivelled up and died in front of her (if only I had known of the indignity of childbirth to come)

GlaikitFizzog · 27/02/2013 17:07

BegoniaBampot, there are many different types for different women.

Have a look here www.femininewear.co.uk/ before going to boots as its likely they won't have as good a range. And if you buy for here you get a little packet of love hearts thrown in!

Mooncup is a brand name, I have a meluna (actually I have two, but one accidentally got a bit melted during the boiling process)

MrsHoarder · 27/02/2013 17:11

I have a mooncup, they are much better than endless tampons.

As for unscented sanitarywear, get the Boots Essentials or supermarket cheapest own brand. Less sticky, but at least it doesn't come with thrush.

Thank you, everybody, for making me laugh until I cried. Especially you, schadenfreude.

I am further determined to buy a mooncup, once I start my periods again, at this news.

StephaniePowers · 27/02/2013 17:49

Those Fellas wipes are SURELY a joke? No? Manatomy?!

Whatever did happen with Always...have they continued with their inexorable fanny-scenting mission? One only assumes that a Woman With A Grudge initiated that particular product change and is clutching her sides as their profits plummet.

Chesntoots · 27/02/2013 18:39

Moon up all the way...

BelleEtLaBaby · 27/02/2013 18:43

Sorry. Have I missed the point?

What's the point of tampons being scented? Surely they smell "nice" as you take them out of the wrapper... But then you shove it up your fanjo? I can't get my head around the idea. How smelly scented would they have to be to still be able to smell of flowers when they're an inch inside your vagina?

Have I missed something? Just: why?

Wewereherefirst · 27/02/2013 18:54

I hate the idea of scented sanpro, if you smell you have an infection and need to get it sorted. Not mask it with some god awful scented nonsense.

I had a fanjo op 11days ago. Couldn't get any unscented sanpro and I'm heaving at the smell of the pads when I open the pack. They reek and make me feel really yuckky because I think everyone can smell me. Bleaugh.

MechanicalTheatre · 27/02/2013 18:58

So disgusting. Honestly. I would get thrush after about 2 seconds.
