Slightly scented tampons - what fresh hell is this?

I was in Tesco yesterday buying tampons. I normally get the Tesco own-brand non-applicator ones, because applicators are just more environmentally unfriendly unflushable septic tank destroying crap. Annoyingly, however, Tesco were out of any non-applicator tampons in anything other than super-plus plus. After some deliberation, ruling out Tampax Pearl because of the infuriating adverts, I picked up Tampax Compak Fresh, because I couldn't see any difference between them and the unfresh ones. Not until I opened the box this morning did I clock the 'slightly scented' bit. Readers, I feel sullied.

AIBU to think that slightly scented tampons are the most ridiculous idea ever?

Didn't you know periods are dirty, ladies? We must hide the fact that we have them, in order to keep people happy. If we hide them, then maybe we'll seem equal to men! But not really because by shoving flowers up our fanjos we are enforcing the view that our bodies are wrong.

But as long as everyone smells like a fucking daisy, all is right with the world!

ScarletLady02 · 27/02/2013 10:36

Ooooh I hate the "have a happy period" advert....

If there's anything to make someone NOT have a happy period, it's that bloody tagline

oop....pun not intended Grin

NC78 · 27/02/2013 10:36

YANBU All those chemicals in your vadge can't be healthy.

YouTheCat · 27/02/2013 10:38

Luckily, I don't have any periods anymore thanks to Cerazette. This makes me happy. Grin

BornInACrossFireHurricane · 27/02/2013 10:38

It's madness.

I am seriously considering a mooncup- are they ok for heavy periods?

Quodlibet · 27/02/2013 10:43

YADNBU.
I have not used pads since I was a teen, but had to after my recent MC. Why the fuck do they smell like cheap air fresheners? Grim. My fury at having to open these massive pads that stank of cheap scent actually made my MC misery worse. I hated it. Put that in your focus group and smoke it, Always Ultra.

Scented tampons are ridiculous. I don't want those chemicals coming into contact with the extremely delicate skin on the inside of my vagina!

msrisotto · 27/02/2013 10:49

I think i'd rather dispose of it myself rather than send it off for them to have the pleasure!

Anyway, I agree, it took me a good few periods to get used to the mooncup but it was the best option of a bad choice to be honest so i've stuck with it and am so glad I have. I can just forget about it really. It takes care of it for the whole day for me and it feels like nothing is there. It feels much cleaner than skanky pads too.

stickingattwo · 27/02/2013 10:52

It's ridiculous. Scented pads, tampons, wipes and washes - how are teenage girls supposed to know what natural is FFS

PessaryPam · 27/02/2013 10:55

Mooncup all the way.

Animation · 27/02/2013 11:03

Think Tampax Compact Fresh need a strongly worded letter informing them that it's unhealthy to put perfume in the vagina area as it causes irritation, and to withraw all products from the shelves forthwith - and do their research.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/02/2013 11:03

Another mooncup convert! Nowhere near as eurgh as first thought!

HarleyQuinn · 27/02/2013 11:32

Scented tampons?! May as well stick a car freshner up there, who the heck thought that was a good idea!

MunchMunch · 27/02/2013 11:55

Scented toilet roll gives me thrush so gawd knows what would happen if I used these! Ridiculous.

Sunnywithshowers · 27/02/2013 12:02

Absolutely bloody ridiculous.

I may have to get a mooncup.

ChairmanWow · 27/02/2013 12:11

Jesus, first we're expected to use 'intimate' wipes because of course we're all so putrid, then to have bald fannies (thanks for that, porn industry), now we're made to feel bad for what they smell like inside. Shall we just sew them up and have done with it? Just don't get who benefits if we're made to feel disgust at our own vaginas.

pumpkinsweetie · 27/02/2013 12:14

Well said Chairman, you would think that mens bits didn't ever smell going on what these manufacturers think we smell offGrin.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/02/2013 12:31

Quod, so sorry to hear about your mc.

Grin at oxford

Will be heading to Boots for a non-scented pack after work, followed by a quick mooncup google. Where do you get moon cups? Online somewhere? I need something that doesn't clog up the septic tank. This is my first period after a year of bf, so it's time for a change.

Whoever came up with "Have a happy period" needs a fucking kicking. I'm a grumpy, mardy, misanthropic bitch at the best of times and nature has given me the perfect excuse to stop reigning this in every month, thank you very much.

msrisotto · 27/02/2013 12:38

Large boots should stock them TooExtra

peppersaunt · 27/02/2013 12:44

Bought scented tampons as desperate, led to nasty internal itch & DH laughing as I squirmed on couch. Bought Always pads. Gave me nasty rash on thighs. Thank goodness for Boots unscented pads as they all seem to be scented now.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 27/02/2013 12:45

My mooncup was purchased online, it was about a fiver cheaper than Boots. Have a look at the mooncup website

peppersaunt · 27/02/2013 12:46

And how about the" squirming around @ night" pads ad? Aargh! Reminds me of advert for night nappies (same voiceover?)

ouryve · 27/02/2013 12:49

I use tampons, or pantyliners, depending on my flow. I was annoyed when I struggled to find unscented liners, last week.

(And even tissues are getting in on the act. I accidentally bought some Kleenex Fresh in an online order, last month - I can't sit anywhere near them without my noise streaming)

StuntGirl · 27/02/2013 12:56

God and I thought those fucking awful scented pads were bad enough. The smell of them makes me want to retch. But scented tampons?! Who the bollocks came up with that?

midastouch · 27/02/2013 12:58

Must have been a mans ingenius idea
