AIBU?

" Just marking my place.." WTF?

Why do people feel the need to go on a thread to "mark my place"? How does that contribute to the discussion underway? I get really annoyed by this action and it's the most pointless thing a poster can do. Why oh why?

Please someone enlighten me to the point of this 'marking of place' .To me it's rude, pointless and utterly unnecessary. I get the "bumping" of thread bit, but the marking of place, I don't get. To me it's self-indulgent, rude, and just plain attention-seeking! Why oh why?

What are the deletion explanations?

Oh, they are brilliant, Make. Usually something that ties in with what has happened on the thread.

I think it's a bit crass. Just use the watch list if you have nothing to say, that's what it's for.

Gosh, some of the stuff you lot get upset about!

Can't remember who mentioned it up thread but the bookmark button works fine on iPads. Just go to the customise at the top.

I'm not keen on place marking tbh. It's not too bad if it's for the GF threads so you can see the deletion message, but other than that the "I'm watching" button is perfectly adequate IMO.

What are the chances that the little darlings I teach will know what ODFOD means? I so want to say it the next time I get YOLO as a response...

sometimes marking threads is useful.
I only use the words when it's funny or erudite.
sometimes on a sensitive post I'll post something because I want to know that the op is okay. and I can never find threads again - I also don't "watch" threads.

Sorry, forgot to check back!

I you touch the bottom right hand corner of a post the bookmark button will appear. Just tap it gain to save your place.

I do think MNHQ could merge watching and on and make the watch button bigger, then less people would mark their place.

I don't think its rude. I think the reasons why its done have been explained. what exactly is the problem with this? why does it bother you so much?
Beyond me.

Oh, I don't know then. I just use the ordinary site on an iPad if that helps at all.
