... to think MN advertising ALCOHOL is absolutely irresponsible?

Just got my weekly 'parenting news' email from MN and was appalled to discover it features an advert of a "new lower alcohol" wine Hmm. I never thought I was much of a snob (I'd hope not, anyway! Confused) but I do think that for a family-oriented website to advertise alcohol is not just inappropriate, it's kind of hypocritical. Especially as some of MN users may be struggling with alcohol addiction, or being victims of their family members' drinking and related issues. I mean COME ON, a 5.5% alcohol wine isn't exactly some sort of an "alcohol replacement therapy" product Angry! AIBU?

TigerseyeMum · 07/02/2013 21:03

Lube for bumsex?

Can you not just use ordinary lube, or is it a special bum-friendly sort?

Hmm. You live and learn.

FlowerTruck · 07/02/2013 21:05

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/02/2013 21:06

Wewereherefirst · 07/02/2013 21:08

Flipping heck, if Mumsnet didn't have wine, it'd end up like that sparkly hun space, wouldn't it?

Wine all the way

Thingiebob · 07/02/2013 21:10

What a strange attitude? Surely this is a joke?

MrsWembley · 07/02/2013 21:11

shesariver · 07/02/2013 21:13

but pushing folks into making potentially irresponsible choices

In what way? How is drinking wine irresponsible, please do tell? Millions of folk enjoy alcohol responsibly, life as an adult is all about making choices and decisions for ourselves.

WildThong · 07/02/2013 21:16

Did we ever get our cats bum emoticon?
If so, that's you op

Arse

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/02/2013 21:19

If my children are reading this I'd be more worried about the frequent cunts and bumsex reference, rather than an ad for wine Grin

But ds1thinks this whole site is lame so I doubt he will read it.

ShakeWellBeforeOpening · 07/02/2013 21:28

My kids see me drink wine , heaven forbid if they saw me do bum sex !

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 07/02/2013 21:42

Yabu.

SirBoobAlot · 07/02/2013 21:47

DS was playing picnics with his friend yesterday, and they asked us two mums ''What colour wine would you like with your dinner?". Blush Grin

KenLeeeeeee · 07/02/2013 21:49

I would have a Wine but I always seem to knock the glasses over so I'll take my vino and pour it into a Brew for safety.

Valpollicella · 07/02/2013 22:01

Better change my user name then...wouldn't want to be seen to be promoting wine, with actual proper alcohol in it

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 07/02/2013 22:04

Wahahahahahahahaha

Follyfoot · 07/02/2013 22:08

*Family orientated website? Have you read mumsnet?

It makes more liberal use of Fuck and Cunt of any website other than

www.TourettesAnonymous.com*

This post has really pissed me off. Did you know that coprolalia is rare amongst Tourette syndrome sufferers? Probably not....But hey, lets stereotype a neurological illness for a quick laugh shall we?

Yes I did actually, but then I'd expect people to take a patently absurd comparison as the joke it was intended and not to be a tedious arseache about it.

manicbmc · 07/02/2013 23:32

Yes, pushing folks into potentially irresponsible choices - like buying low alcohol wine which is vile.

I wish it was Friday.

MmeLindor · 07/02/2013 23:36

Damn. How did I miss this thread.

Must have been while I was restocking the Wine cellar.

justmyview · 07/02/2013 23:51

On the subject of wine, my DD said in a loud voice that the rose wine was "made from pigs wee", much to the amusement of all customers within hearing distance

QueenofPlaids · 07/02/2013 23:53

OP I'm struggling a bit on the irresponsible point you made upthread.

I am every partial to a glass of wine. I fucking hate Schloer and I don't want to drink caffeinated beverages in the evening. I do want to lose weight and be more aware of my alcohol consumption.

Thus I've tried various low alcohol / non-alcoholic beers and wines. Some are utter crap, some are nice in their own right and others fill a specific gap (like Becks Blue is not fantastic, but when chilled makes a good beer substitute to partner a midweek curry).

I fail to see how advertising low alcohol wine is an issue. It's hardly a gateway drug. I'd imagine most people who fancy it like me either want to reduce / be more aware of the units they take in or are on a diet.

When i want to get pissed, (which is not often) funnily enough I don't go straight to the First Cape Light...

manicbmc · 07/02/2013 23:55

Oh that stuff is just awful. I bought a bottle by mistake once, because it was cheap.

ripsishere · 08/02/2013 01:10

I am more shocked at the idea that people would intentional buy low alcohol wine. Surely that defeats the purpose and tastes bad.
