... to think MN advertising ALCOHOL is absolutely irresponsible?

Just got my weekly 'parenting news' email from MN and was appalled to discover it features an advert of a "new lower alcohol" wine Hmm. I never thought I was much of a snob (I'd hope not, anyway! Confused) but I do think that for a family-oriented website to advertise alcohol is not just inappropriate, it's kind of hypocritical. Especially as some of MN users may be struggling with alcohol addiction, or being victims of their family members' drinking and related issues. I mean COME ON, a 5.5% alcohol wine isn't exactly some sort of an "alcohol replacement therapy" product Angry! AIBU?

Lulumama · 07/02/2013 19:26

won't someone think of the children??

SirBoobAlot · 07/02/2013 19:26

Seeing as there is a regular ''drunk'' thread at least once a week, if you object to wine being advertised, I'd suggest you piss off find a different site more appropriate to your requirements.

manicbmc · 07/02/2013 19:27

I'm not sharing my wine with the kids! They can stick to their Breezers. Grin

ledkr · 07/02/2013 19:33

Oh how silly op. alcohol and other adult stuff is advertised everywhere.
Did you also know that people say cunt on here and talk about bum sex too. How can you be on here and be offended by advertising low alcohol wine come on get a grip.

ledkr · 07/02/2013 19:34

I'm having a nice glass now actually. on a school night I'm practising for half term next week.

lurkerspeaks · 07/02/2013 19:47

Family orientated? You are joking. Mumsnet if for adults to commiserate the minutiae of family life. I would be mortified if my posts on mumsnet were read aloud to small children. The liberal use of profanities would torture their poor little brains.

As far as I am concerned mumsnet can accept money from any legal advertisers who wish to give them cash. We are all grown ups and can apply discretion to what we see/ read.

As long as alchohol advertising remains legal wine can be advertised. I have a dry alcoholic in my family and one of the things they have to learn to live with is alcohol. It is everywhere in society (and in my house). I don't clear out the cellar just because the alcoholic is coming to stay. That would be patronising.

Dozer · 07/02/2013 19:49

Really they should be advertising gin.

gasman · 07/02/2013 19:50

turquoise tranquility I got banned from a US based site on the basis of a thread discussing appropriate gifts for children departing for college. My offensive post suggested that the college age children might consider having sexually intercourse or drinking alcohol so condoms and hangover treating paracetamol should be included.

I respectfully suggest you might fit in better there than here!

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/02/2013 19:54

As a person who has struggled through alcohol addiction may I congratulate for your ops assumption that a picture of a bottle of wine would make me fall of the wagon. Hmm

Or to summarise

Dur!

giraffesCantEatNHSPotatoes · 07/02/2013 19:57

Should mn not advertise food incase it upsets a recovering bulimic?
