... to be tired of the Goady Fuckers?

MmeLindor · 31/01/2013 10:00

Is it just me or has there been an increase in goady thread derailing in the last couple of weeks? It seems even the most innocuous of threads are being deliberately diverted by posters who only post offensive or ridiculous comments then refuse to back down.

Here's what I use MN for:

Fun
Support
Advice
Chat
Activism and feminism
Bloggers chat
Politics

Not to have arguments with Goady Fuckers who are sitting at home delighted to have got us all off topic.

A lot of threads I've been on in the past few days have been taken completely off topic or detailed. Have we been invaded MNHQ or is it the work of a couple of fuckwits individuals?

Who wants to join me in an Anti Goady Fucker Campaign?

I vote that when someone tries to derail a thread that we all ignore and do a mass report to MNHQ. They are fed up hearing from me in the past weeks.

I love tabs. Facebook and another parenting forum plus live stream kittens and I'm clicking between the 4. Grin

We never get trolls these days. The occasional barney between members. Grin

It is much much smaller than MN.

MmeLindor · 31/01/2013 23:51

I had multiple tabs open during that thread so I could watch it till the bitter end.

I think we need further GF categories.

  1. Concerned Goady Fucker - posts out of concern for other posters
  1. Aggressive Goady Fucker - HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT?
  1. Offended Goady Fucker - takes the thread off on a tangent because they are offended by something like 'a jerry can' as it is racist against Germans

Can i just ask what happened to the thread congratulating HQ on their more inventive it got zapped messages? Did that get zapped too? or am i being bleary eyed and just not looking in the right place?

MmeLindor · 01/02/2013 00:18

I don't know, Bitchy, but I am enjoying their inventive messages at the moment.

Do you know what I've noticed this last week, a lot of AIBU threads about immigration/multiculturalism

ll31 · 01/02/2013 08:03

What a bizarre thread. ... you're upset about people who what, aren't't nice, are expressing opinions you don't like, don'tkeep on subject -as you see it that is,

Did I miss something or do all members not have equal right to contribute? I suggest you stop trying to analyse why people post as they do and just respond or not, as you choose. .. easy.

MmeLindor · 01/02/2013 08:15

Have you actually read the thread? I have given examples of what I mean.

I'm quite happy to have a debate but GF is not about debate. It's about stopping debate.

How ridiculous to suggest I don't like other posters not agreeing with me. Do you really think I'd still be on MN if that were the case? Since that is pretty much what is going on here every day.

I thought it was a confusing to lurk on the thread yesterday about "why are some posters so ready to give a flaming" or some such title and see that many (though not all) of the criiticisms of some posters being made there were more or less the same as the ones being made on this thread, but that people on both threads had a kind of mirror-image reaction there to their views on here.

Both were essentially about some posters behaving in unpleasant ways that derail threads. But there, searching poster history was frowned on, starting threads to raise the issue was frowned on, raising the issue without "naming names" was frowned on -- and a poster did name names because she was pressed to and she was then (rightly) castigated for that. All these are things that people are doing here. (Names haven't been mentioned here but threads have been linked to). It really did reinforce my feeling that people are just mischaracterising their own dislike of certain posts/posters as an objective unacceptability. Whether you call them "regulars" or "goady fuckers" as a strategy to label them as unacceptable makes little difference.Plus its not that different from the tedious newbies v. oldies ethos of yesteryear.

Truth is, of course, that "regulars" do sometimes behave badly in the ways that were criticised; and the truth about "goady fuckers" is that they do usually have legitimate reasons for participating in conversations in ways that others find annoying. Both labels are attached to people that are posting acceptably but sometimes very annoying. Which makes them both just mumsnet users.

Pagwatch · 01/02/2013 08:33

A poster named names!

Did I get mentioned?

Pagwatch · 01/02/2013 08:36

I do think goading is just a version of trolling though.

Beyond that, yes everyone is annoying to someone else. I hated the sneering about newbies and the 'yawn. This has been done to death' stuff. I do think that is massively reduced from when I first joined.
But the threads bitching about regulars are pretty constant now.

Perhaps it's just like fashion or something.

Moominsarescary · 01/02/2013 08:39

I've noticed it this week, a couple of posters spring to mind. Bloody annoying goady fuckery

BIWI · 01/02/2013 08:42

What I can't stand, and what that thread was all about, is the generalising, sidesweep at regulars being nasty to less 'popular' posters (not a word I would use, but the one that was used. It's the same when people accuse Mumsnet Royalty - people are never named, and it's just a general unpleasant snidey type of post.

Getting them to name names forces them to be specific. It's not pleasant. But it reveals their unpleasant nature, IMO. And also makes it (or rather, should make it) clear why those types of threads should never be started.

But - I rather think we were all sucked in last night. Which is the biggest lesson. DON'T RISE TO THE GOADY FUCKER BAIT!

BIWI · 01/02/2013 08:43

Sorry, Paggy, you didn't get named Grin
