I told a friend I was shocked that Rihanna had done a duet with Chris Brown.

She said she felt he'd been given an unfairly hard time.

I told her I'd seen stats saying a lot of young people think Rihanna must have "deserved" it and I think it's not only acceptable, but absolutely vital, for the media to keep being negative about a man who violently assaulted his girlfriend.

She said she thought he'd been subjected to trial by media and should be given another chance after he "just made one mistake".

Seriously, what? AIBU to think she is completely wrong?

I agree. My 15 year old thinks he should be forgiven. I don't.

I can't stand him, he is violent. I even wrote to ABC to complain about them showing an interview he did, after he threw a chair out of a high rise window in a rage after the host asked him about Rhianna.
I wish someone could make Rhianna see he deserves to be charged and to file charges against him. She did herself and all abuse victims a great dis-service by not laying charges against him.

I think people want to believe he can change. Not because he is particularly worthy of forgiveness because he's in some way special but because people do tend to want to believe that people who do bad things can change. And he was so young at the time which makes people want to believe it as well.

But no,Yanbu. He's an odious cunt. Not being a forgiving kind of woman I fully believe he will do it again. And had probably done it to less noticeable degrees before that final outburst that made headlines.

There are lot's of other musicians out there who are not horrible human beings.

I'm fairly sure it's not as easy for someone whose livelihood depends on connections. Don't blame Rihanna - many victims don't press charges and that is their right. It's horrible that people think this means he can be excused, but that isn't her fault.

Despite the awful message it's giving to young girls, her taking an abuser back.
I really hope (for her sake) that the reunion is just a 'showmance' another string to her 'controversial' bow.
I was discussing it with my teenage sister who thankfully thinks them getting back together is madness. I do worry for the young girls who look up to Rhianna as a role model and are seeing this behaviour as normal.

Yanbu. A mistake is something done in error. He didn't accidentally beat the shit out of her, he did it deliberately. I mean, I get angry and manage not to repeatedly punch people in the face all the time. It isn't hard. Unless of course you like hitting people. Because you're a vile shit.

I am not sure of my feelings on this tbh. I would really like to think people can change and he has realised what a dick he is. But I don't think that is the case here.

As an aside, he was charged, pled guilty and was sentenced to 5 years probation and 6 months community service. Not a massive sentence but more than alot of people get for a first offence.

It's in the public domain and a trigger or discussing it with our teenage children at least. Incredible depressing for her though.

If so, that definitely shows no remorse.

The tattoo was of something else but it wasn't particularly pleasant.

I had a stand-up row with a bloke in our office about this, I think I took him aback by my vehemence on the subject. He began, however, by saying 'well, you don't know what she did to provoke him...'

And this was a grown man with a baby daughter, not some teenager. :(

That was unconfirmed. He had a tattoo of a womans face, it was taken from a MAC (make up) illustration. You can see similar on their website.

The media took great joy in reporting it was rhianna. But the tattoo artist, Chris brown and rhianna all say it the MAC thing.

My 14yo can't understand what's going through Rihanna's head. She keeps saying "but he beat her up. Whhhhhyyyyy would you want to have a boyfriend that does that, she could find someone nicer that doesn't hurt her. She doesn't deserve to be hurt or scared of her boyfriend, no one does..."

She has always bought Rihanna's albums, but she said she didn't want the new one because all the songs are about how she loves Chris Brown and stuff, and she thinks it's silly.
